Whatever Happened to WAR?

I bought this game when it came out and have played it off and on, I have a 40 Shaman rr 39.

I came back about 2 weeks ago for the first time in a year for the free 10 days, the game seems deader then when I played it last time despite the "improvements".  There are rarely any scenarious up except late at night which are plagued by rr80(soon to be rr 100) premades.

I've played during the day, night, weekdays, and weekend and it was all the same, no open WBs, no one looking to invite more to their WBs, no one looking to form a WB for us outcasts, no active guilds actively recruiting.  I hear people say how they need more healers but yet no one is willing to invite one to their WB or guidld.

People are near unresponsive at all times when messaged.  I say this because my experience with other MMOs even AoC is so much different, other games have lower population yet there they have much more activity.

But whatever, I got tired of roaming around the game looking for WBs and guilds and people to play with.  I've gone on a couple vent channels and from that experience it seems the game is just left with snobs and prudes who hate PuGs and rage over people who don't know the game as well as they do and at the same time will whine about there not being enough of one class but aren't willing to accept people who have come back to the game and just want to help.

If the vet community are gonna be that way, it will only further hurt the game, I highly doubt Bioware intends to keep WAR running for very long and with the help of the community it wouldn't be hard to shut it down when the time comes.

It would appear that they're still a bit shy of the 3 million subs they were hoping for.

What server are you on? I'm not even on the most populated NA server and I run RvR in WBs almost all the time in all tiers.

The problem with WAR is it was a war with no consequences.

  • highvoltahighvolta Member UncommonPosts: 130

yeah what server are you on.

RvR warbands and sc going on all the time.

Still ALOT of people play the game in all tiers.

You have to play on Badlands currently until they merge down to two servers.

    Simple:

They wanted to play WOW and got killed in the line of fire.

To the OP.. What server are your characters on?

Well I completely sympathize with your problem and closed WBs annoy me to no end.. especially because they are completely pointless and basically self-destructive. (They have no way of ridding of someone who simply follows them and leeches renown - actually it PAYS not to be in a WB).

But the solution is very simple. Start your own PUG WB and lead it to greatness. As easy as that. And you will have a lot of thankful SOBs ready to join your guild (or not, whatever is your fancy).

I've been playing WAR from the start and I purposefully avoid any long-term entanglements, being heavily burned by previous mmos I played. Personally I enjoy leading a rag-tag bunch of loosers and inspiring them to actually do something useful for the realm. IMO those playing for their guild at the expense of others are playing the wrong game. In WAR your whole realm is your guild and your "guild" is nothing more than a privileged friends list.

In short, start a WB and start coordinating with others in regional chat. You'll have loads and loads of fun that way. Just a few points to remember:

    1) Positive motivation >> negative. If someone bad mouths you or your decisions just ignore him or her. If they go out of line simply kick em out without a word. Remember to praise good plays and team efforts no matter how they turn out in the end. Play your team!

    2) Keep info flowing - always tell folks exactly WHAT, WHERE and WHY

    3) Caps Lock is your friend - as a WB leader, you and only you can use CAPS. But only to explain WHAT WHERE and WHY so no one can say he missed it and ran off to grind a PQ

    4) Remember to check your group composition from time to time - at least one healer in each group etc.. especially so with AMs/Shammys who group heal a lot.

    5) Keep it light - if you wipe, crack a joke or two, regroup and rush straight back. Dying penalties are intentionally low in this game so it is not about "not loosing" but all about "winning". In short - play your victories for all they're worth and shrug off inevitable losses.

    6) Take initiative. This is absolutely crucial. If the pack senses there is no direction they will scatter. If someone in the pack shows more initiative than you, then breathe a sigh of relief and make him/her a WB leader... and then lean back and enjoy the ride. Remeber, FUN comes first and Realm close second. Ego-trips help neither.

    Good luck and HF!

LoL I have no idea where you people are getting the idea that War is dead or ever was dead.  Every video and screen shot out there proves the contrary.  Right now I'm looking at 600 people battling it out on badlands in t4.   You people are like the tea party of the mmo scene....

Um, obviously WAR isn't dead... but to use the first 24 hours *after* the first significant content change in over a year as representative of *anything* is beyond ludicrous xD

Having played the new 1.4 patch now in all 4 tiers it is my opinion that they really shot themselves in the foot with this one.  Now a solo player can go in and completely flip a zone since all of the NPC guards on battle objectives (BO) and keeps have been removed.  You simply walk to the BO and click the flag and its yours.  To take a keep you just take BO's until your keep is 4 star and then you can buy a ram to destroy the enemy's keep door.  After the door is down you simply walk in and click the flag and the keep is yours (also totally undefended).

This is complete and utter crap.   Without going into more detail, a solo player can take all the objectives and keeps in a zone by himself.

I feel this is as bad as SOE's huge mistake with SWG.

This is supposed to be a fight.  Unguarded keeps is just ...uncomprehensible.

In tier 1, I solo flipped two complete zones.  With a friend in tier 2 we flipped a zone as well.  This is just stupid.

My only guess is that this is a bug and will soon be fixed.  Fingers crossed.

1.4 patch is awesome, you just don't understand how good this will be. No more sitting at bo's and keeps waiting. Play more and whine after that :)

To OP: talk to an officer of a guild and make an application to join a guild on your server, they will not turn you down but none of the respectable guilds just random invite people they expect at least some level of contribution and that is shown by using some time to write proper application.

So you think being able to solo flip a zone is a good thing for a pvp game that is supposed to be realm based? Also if you are in t4 and there are people on other side figthing against you it can be even harder to take a keep since they can do the dungeon and use monster stuff that is only available to rr65+ which means t4 is geared toward higher rr lvl chars which will make it harder to get in wb's as well most likely.

They changed tiers now to t2 goes up to 26 now and t3 up to 39 i think. Instead of adding a 5th tier like they should have they have just made things worse i think in that respect. ie since lvl 26 can have full t3 gear which was lvl 24, 25 items and are still in t2 now there unkillable. At least before it was somewhat balanced for lower tiers and didn't become a problem till you were t4 and got there at 32 and had to go against people that were up to basically 48 lvls higher then you ie lvl 40/rr80's. We did an sc other night with premade destro in it we were focus firing one person and could not kill anyone, they were all rr80 so we got 0 points while they cleaned up. This was before 1.4 patch of course but thats not going to change in fact it will get worse with rr100 out. Now t4 starts at 40 but rr100 is possible so you can be fighting people basically 60 lvls higher then you now esp since people rr80 will be getting faster renown then normal from the addon pack that ups there renown gain. Actaully t4 still starts at 32 but you can stay in t3 till 39 but you will see wb's and such from t4.

Kinda rambling but to person who says don't understand 1.4 and that its awesome please explain what is awesome about it as I would like to know. I am not sure yet if its good or bad will reserve judgement till i play it some but so far see above:)

1.4 is good overall, when there are people fighting. What Mythic needs to do: Add Keep/BO NPCs back in. Then while you're sitting in front of the enemy Keep, waiting for your Keep to level to Rank 4 in order to get Rams, at least you'll have something to do (when there's no defenders).

I wouldn[object Window]t mind massive waves of normal mobs while you fight your way to an epic conclusion with the Keep Lord. Instead they took all that out and put in... a flag. Look at TOR[object Window]s PvP (with which, one would logically assume, Mythic is helping). They stated they wanted their battles to have realistic objectives - i.e., destroying the enemy[object Window]s flagship on Alderaan instead of capturing the fucking flag. Why can[object Window]t Mythic apply that to WAR?

I believe this is a quick measure just to get the new RvR system out there and get people used to it. Mythic WILL be tweaking and adding things, like they did with the old system. They need to get Guilds back involved as well; make Keeps claimable once again and give them increased Resource accruement, extra guards, or something similar.

On a positive note, when there ARE defenders, Keep battles feel much more epic (except for the anti climactic CAPTURE MAH FLAG!, as stated above...). Siege weapons actually do... SOMETHING... now, and having 3-4 AoE ones firing at once means lots of explosions and general mayhem.

Sorry mate but you just don't dig it.

People simply don't understand the new mechanics yet. They're mostly still playing by the old rules.

The new ruleset will motivate players to spread around and coordinate - which is a good thing in an ORvR game, yes?

Imo, if there is 1 (ONE) player vs 0 (ZERO) in a zone then then its clear who wins since the odds are basically infinity to none. This is cool. Trust me. The problem is still with a) the players (they still are not sure what to do yet, clinging to a keep noone pays attention to since its unattackable yet, expecting a zerg that won't come) and b) Mythic who rushed a patch without cleaning it up properly (siege wpns beside ram cannot attack doors yet, there should definitely be RP rewards for intercepting the carrier NPC etc).

My guess is that in 2 weeks tops the players will realize the new tactic sets and things will get a lot more interesting. Sadly I don't have that much faith in Mythic, with their staff cuts and all, but they'll get there eventually.

In short, don't panic. Give the game some time to adjust to the changes.

You are missing the point mate.  We understand the new Alice in wonderland new mechanics.  The zones are already mostly devoid of life.  Very little hostile mobs that can affect tactical approaches and all sorts of ORvR planning.  Now they make the BO's magical mushroom supplies for the invisible inhabitants of the keeps.  They might as well just make the BO's candy canes we go pick for Alice and merry band in the keep.

So now we have all this spread out and coordinated mushroom picking parties that help feed the non existent  guards.
