I wanted to share with you a post I saw from a player from a different forum who broke down some popular mmo's out there and their money strategy. I thought it was a pretty good analysis, so wanted to see if you guys agree or disagree.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would like to give a few examples, so that people will understand that in every game money wins just like in real world. Allods is a fun virtual world where currency can be gotten within 5 minutes, but in reality the REAL people make the game run, maintane the servers (have you checked teh prices of a small dedicated server!?), and those REAL people need to feed themselves and if they have kids also their kids.
Forsaken World BETA: (Cash Shop still not working)
- 60 potions of mana per beginner instance
- Gold to repair armor and weapons
- full of exploits
I noticed they have some way overpowered stuff that can be gotten but you need diamond currency which is item shop curency
Same company that made the above game, in their other game if you spent 1,000-2,000 euros you were mediocre.
Lord of the RIngs (F2P):
- Max 2 gold
- Premium Classes Purchasable
- Cap on content unless purchased
- Cap on bags unless purchased
- Login priority purchasable
- Chat, AH, Mail limited unless purchased
- and many many more restrictions too lazy to write
Runes of Magic:
- To be able to do anything you needed items from cash shop or lots of gold, which took days because paying members knew that you had to buy it and there was no other way to get it so they had crazy prices.
- I spent in that gave around 1,000 euros and it still wasn't good to be the best
WoW:
- Around 150 euros just to start playing the new expansion, with that money here you can get 8 x lvl 6 runes if not higher with more gold for gold dust.
Allods:
Allods factions system including the fast paced PvP where you can use environment to your advantage is the best in any game I have seen so far. The difficulty of end game raiding is something that made original WoW famous for, when Burning crusade came out they lost many player, I'm talking about active players, not the accounts that sit on server and no one plays, this happened because in their second expansion any noob could do raids So the end game raiding lost its value and prestige.
Allods graphics, oh man, it makes WoW and the likes look like commodore 64 or Amiga games
Alos this is probably the only game which allows their players to get free item shop currency exm. Sponsor Pay
The only thing Allods need is population, but what truly killed population is the negativity, I remember people were talking about Fear of Death like it was the Armageddon, but in reallity it was not bad at all (unless you wanted to have no consequnce for dieng but than you must be the player type who likes to whit once click get 10 legenderies at once) Bloated negativity especially from people who just hear it but don't try and see for themselves has killed of the population a bit, yes we got Gipat patch who ahs something to do with it also , but we are the ones guilty we asked for removal of Fear of Death and now secretly in our hearts we want it back

Are you serious? If I'm a new player and I want to play WoW, it's $200 to buy the game? Surely it can't be THAT expensive to get into the game that like 10 million people are playing...
Also, some of this stuff just isn't well-researched. For example, LoTRO, it's possible to play the entire game for free, forever if one does a bunch of grinding. If you don't want to grind, it's about $100 to get all of the game's content to own and play free forever.

You spent 1000 Euros ? Unbelievable...that ppl really spend so much money just for a crappy game. Sorry but, you could do much better things with that money in real life.
What killed Allods is a publisher out and out lying to their playerbase. Dishonesty destroys trust, and they aren't getting my time or money. I got ripped off and lied to. I'm not alone either.
From 2 minutes (literally) of internet searching I found the original game, a month's playtime and both current expansions for 40 EUR. True the new expansion on Dec 7th will set you back another 35 EUR or so, but that's already less than half the OP's quoted price, with pretty much zero effort put in to finding the best deal.
After reading this, the guy clearly did no research at all (takes a two second Google search). All the World of Warcraft expansions can be bought for around $60 and that includes 30 free days.
On top of that it's just a rant about how great Allods is (with a little bit of sympathetic card for the people running the servers feeding their children?) and how bad the other games are for their (statisical fallacy) start-up costs. It compares the other games based on their start-up costs, then praises Allods for revolutionizing World of Warcraft? Great comparisons. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that this was really a good analysis. :
He who keeps his cool best wins.
I live in Taiwan. If I want to play wow here I just need to pay ~$15 a month. No need to buy the game nor expansion.
That's the one thing I love about here.
I also use the argumement that players don't have to pay real money in f2p games and can just grind their resources, but people always say back that "someone had to buy those CS items in first place"
Wow! This was the best analysis evah! Thank you OP!
Deserves a stickie!

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
