I was banned for using Glider to level a warrior. I was lumped in with all the gold farmers. I can accept being punished for using glider, but even a superficial lazy query of their own database would show I was not farming gold. The banned two accounts I had because I was using the same credit card.
I refuse to level again. Period. I was attached to the characters and I dont want to create new ones. If they let me use my old toons, I would go back.
I guess I did everything the game had to offer when I left just before BC went live 4 years ago and despite all of their content adds, its really either more of the same or content I wasn't interested in.
I prefer MMO's that are virtual worlds to ones that are designed to rush people through them to the "end game".

Just had enough of the same, and I wanted to feel mmo-fresh for the next big mmo that I'll be playing. Also I feel that Blizzard gets a way a lot more with WoW than other developers would with their recycled content.
This. And yea, after reaching level 60 with the origonal, the game-play content was a rehash, and the redundancy was too mind-numbing for me.

Leveling a character to max level using Glider, on a separate account would indicate that you were leveling the character to sell it and were dumb enough to have a link between your main account and the account you planned on selling. It really doesn't matter if that's what you were doing or not. You used a program that would cause you to get banned.
You weren't really even playing the game...why would you go back?
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Max leveled and raided for several months in BC. It was just all too easy. Then as I saw what little challenge there was in the game (remember when you had to quest for a key to Karazan?) stripped away I was like, "what is the point". If all they are going to do is negate past accomplishments what is the point in doing anything?
The big fancy boss mobs that were soooo hard were dumbed down until any scrub guild could clear a dungeon. I don't go back be cause there really isn't a point in doing so.. same reason I left. Besides there are much better games out there. The only reason I played wow in the first place is because I had some friends there... but if your friends are still playing wow then what kind of friends are they?
I am tired of games where you rush to the level cap and do the same content over and over until the next expansion is released. That, and WoW's pacing and art style isn't for me.
If I do ever plan to return to a "themepark" game, it won't be WoW until they add more socialization features such as housing, appearance options, and revamp to a better, as in less generic, crafting system.
Playing - EVE, Wurm
Retired - Final Fantasy XI, Anarchy Online, Mabinogi
After playing from before BC, then getting BC and dumping the old gear for the grind to 70, then getting LK and dumping the old gear for the grind to 80... I'm just done with grinding. Now, Cataclysm is coming, and what is it really bringing behind the pretty new fluff... 5 more levels to grind to you can get more gear so you can get to the new dungeons to get more gear for new heroics to get more gear for the new raid to get more gear for the next raid to get more gear for the next...
... I can't do that anymore. I'm content to play a little Minecraft while I wait for GW2 to come out. My days of pure, raw unadulturated grind are behind me. All Deathwing is is something else to grind, but with a bigger chin.
I don't have time to play WoW when I am spending all of my freetime developing an indie game.
It may be released first as a multiplayer game, but it is quite easy to go from small multiplayer to large multiplayer, to massively multiplayer- it just takes a slow investment of money.
Why is it easy? Because there are different types of massively multiplayer software already developed to fit in with the game engine I will be using.
Quit posting on these forums and finish yer game already!!!
You're right, I really should get back to work. Lunch is over
I actually mess around with the graphics while I post, so I am working somewhat, just not when I'm typing, lol :P
I am actually in the process of character lore & design.
If being a developer means being quiet, mature, well-spoken, and disconnected from the community, then by all means do me a favor and believe I'm not one.
Three reasons I don't play anymore. My real life priorities have changed so my time commitment is limited, I tired of the same ole grind for gear in the same zones over and over again, and most of my friends that play have quit. It's crossed my mind about re-subbing and checking out Cataclysm but in the end I doubt I do.
keep'em coming. seems like most people are looking for more of an adventure during the leveling process and not just a race to the finish line and then the wait for another xpac.
Boredom. After I got a mount for two avatars at 40 (yes, it's been that long) I lacked any interest in playing further. That and finding out that every zone after the Barrens got smaller than the last one.

Played till BC, even bought it, played it for about a week and then had enough of it and never returned since. It's far to combat oriented and crafting was far to limited for me at the time, the overall experiance felt as a to small MMORPG experiance and felt more like a normal multiplayer games then I felt it was a MMORPG. Did have fun though during the time that I played , but kept hoping to get a deeper MMORPG experiance from playing it which I actually never found.
The real question isn't what keeps vets from returning to WoW. All that is is an excuse for WoW bashing. The real question is what keeps players from leaving WoW. That's WoW's real power, it's ability to retain players. Most WoW haters will admit they played it for years before deciding "the community is horrible" or "it's a game for kids".
I agree with you. But, change is slow. There have been many different development teams (with different visions for the game) working on WoW over the years.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
I only played it for 2 months and that's what stopped me playing and stopped me from returning. I love MMO's but i have no interest in sitting on ventrilo with people who have nothing to talk about other than Gear Scores, raids and slagging off newbies.
Perhaps ive been spoiled in the past with the people i've gotten together with in other games, but i'd rather spend my evenings laughing with people over any topic you can think about... not just the game you're playing. MMO's just aren't the same without that imo.

This ^^ is the main reason I don't go back after 2 years of having a lot of fun with WoW. I enjoyed exploring, leveling and pvp. But I was discouraged at how much more important gear is than skill. And raiding is not interesting to me. As a healer or tank in a raid, you do need skill, but I mostly played ranged dps, so that wasn't much fun once you had your "rotation" down and all your buffs, pots, flasks, gear set, etc. Just press the buttons and move on cue to boss mods.
PvP - that could be fun but I hated grinding out all that gear only to have it become obsolete. It was very discouraging and made me tire of gear grinding.
WoW was my "gateway MMORPG." It gave me 2 years of fun and then I realized there were other games out there. None of them are as "polished" as WoW, but that I can live with.
The final reason that keeps me from just popping in to WoW to play an alt with all the heirloom items I got is because my account was hacked and I lost all my gold and crafting mats that I spent a lot of time gathering. It's just not worth it anymore. I moved on.
EDIT: If you want to get really nit-picky: paladins and their bubbles, Blood-elves, Tauren paladins...
"Leveling a character to max level using Glider, on a separate account would indicate that you were leveling the character to sell it and were dumb enough to have a link between your main account and the account you planned on selling"
I didnt plan on selling it anf that was obvious. In fact, you actually pointed out why it was obvious. My accounts were linked. Such a mistake is not made by people farming gold or selling accounts. It would have taken very little effort on blizzards part to seperate the professional farmers/sellters and people like myself. Not that blizzard would care if someone sold a toon, its a monthly subscription regardless.
"You weren't really even playing the game...why would you go back?"
I was playing. I had 2 accounts, one I played everyday, and another I would level a fighter on with glider. Hell, because of glider blizzard made twice as much money off of me. LOL
It's simple for me, though I really like WoW and would love to be playing it...I have worked the 3rd shift for the last 10 years and also have had Tuesdays as my day off for the majority of that time (still do). There is nothing quite like the feeling of paying for a game where 1/2 of your playtime is spent looking at the game's forums because it is under maintenance.
WoW was a great game, pre-Wotlk... Loved it back in teh day before BC. Burning Crusade was only kool, beacuse it was the 1st expac to the original game... but since the release of WotLK, wow has gone downhill... every x-pac that comes out, seems to feel like the old one, with a new skin... and that gets very boring as well.... and NOW we are getting a reskinned azeroth, with some new quests thrown in. I quit wow when they recycled Onyixa and Decided to never go back when I heard they were redoing old world... ive done that stuff and i dont want to do it again... even if it has a new shiney skin, and a few new zones...

Why don't i go back (yes i played for a little bit.)?
Everything that i've been hearing about how the community treats each other.
First off, the no talking in groups or blasting through content.
and the gear score. Yes i know it's an add-on but it rules the game.
Any game that states by number how good you are based on your equipment and not your skill with the character holds up a big red flag to me.
Once people drop the gear score and get back to what MMOs were about in that game, i'll stay away.
PS a third. I don't have enough time to really get into a character with ToR coming out within the next year.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
