I have been interested in giving FFXIV a shot, and honestly did not know that it had even been released yet lmao. I gave up on MMO's after DF(though that did last about 4 month's), I just recently checked back on this site and noticed this had released and remembered loving the first one as I had it on the 360 and played with a few RL friends. But now I am afraid to purchase it after all the negativaty it has received, even after the recent patch.
Is this game playable yet and what were the major issues in the game that people had? What of those was fixed in this patch, and what remain? Looking through a few threads the only thing I saw listed as a issue and failure was the laggy UI, which seems to have been fixed now what other issues does FF have? Sorry, I am sure this was stated at some point a few threads further down but honestly don't feel like reading through pages and pages of random debating and arguing(which was all it seemed to be on the first few pages of some of the popular multi-paged posts). Thanks for any info!
It also sucks that this game is only on PS3 and PC, I loved playing the first one on my xbox and being able to sit back and relax on my couch and big screen while playing.
"Apparently, they(Microsoft) only allowed FFXI on Xbox Live because it was in its infancy stages but now that it has become more established, they apparently don't need (or want) FFXIV. In the end, they were flat-out unwilling to put Square-Enix's new MMORPG on Live so that version was subsequently nixed. Obviously, there are two interesting facets to this: first, that if Square-Enix had its own way, FFXIV would've never remained exclusive and second, that Microsoft didn't think it worth having..."
Screw Microsoft and them getting in the way of my couch potatoness, oh well. Anyways wanting to purchase this for PC, just wondering what the gamebreaking issues all are so I can better judge if I should purchase it or not today.

The game is perfectly playable. There are no game breaking issues. If you want a race to endgame with 10,000 generic quest however, this is not your game. If you like FFXI slow paced community oriented gameplay then you might find this game enjoyable.
Its amazing you can say that with straight face.
And OP, if you like to grind on mobs to level up without any sense or purpose then you will enjoy this. It gives you a feeling of playing a F2P asian MMO. You will repeat same leves over and over again and crafting is all about hitting standards till it completes. I suggest get hold of buddy key before throwing your money away.

Hmm I guess your signature does not update like mine did for odd reasons, but around the levels you have shown right their you hardly know much about the game as it plays around 20 not to mention after the patch changes. If you have several professions aboove 20 I am sorry to make wrong conlusions.
Edit:
Oh and it can just be that my impression is differnet because I do not play that much thanks to limited time window. Soo it is mainly my subjective opinion that I do not lack content.
Really? i have three characters actually. The highest one is lvl 32 Puglist. Which i will most probably keep once free period is over and DEC patch brings much needed content. Right now it costs me nothing to have three character slots.
Game is similar once you hit 20, or i missed something? same type of leves and same mob grinding to level up. Other than some faction leves which also get repetitive really fast what else is different once you hit 20? because i have done it all and didn't see the difference. I also checked out the patch changes. UI is more responsive and that is the only good thign to come out of it.

As said guessed your rank is higehr than in the signature. Have the same problem with it. I honestly admit I am aorund the wtenteis so not can sepak for the rank 30 levels and play on a shorter time frame. Oh and mainly other interrest since I mor elike to tinker and experiment with skills around.
Aside of that I loike the I admit few guild quests for the several jobs and it is sure nice play to have a nice social linkshell around. Maybe I just like the social aspect more than the game mechanic one I admit. So that is why I say that I it is my personal impression. Special sicne I sort of level several jobs parlel why I do differen difficult levels of leves and nromally run out of time after doing these.
Than some group play and human interaction and I am out of time.
Edit:
And this maybe a stupid fun factor but I like the aspect to be now partly very careful with area effects thanks to the wildlife that finds it totally interresting to come close by while I am in combat.
I agree.
The game is a sink hole. Time and money.
There are a few people that will tell you it's great without blinking an eye and then you find the 25 critic reviews of 30%-40%rating and the 500 player experience posts that warn you away. I'd look hard at all the game mechanics before I spent a dime on the game.

There are no gamebreaking issues
@OP: If you want to grind generic quests and be put on rails from generic town X to generic town Y, like in LOTRO, WOW etc., until endgame than this is not your game. It also is not possible to grind to max level in a week take that as good or bad. It's not a theme park game. It's a world you play a character in, not a generic Warrior or Shaman. You can mix and match all skills from all classes.
Get a buddy pass or pick it up for cheap. It's all free right now until December.
I honestly was not expecting nor wanting a them park type game, I liked the original and that wasn't. A lot of it was just grinding mobs, and doing repeatable quests or group lvling, etc. But it had something to strive for, with a lot of content later on. It reminded a small bit of what EQ was like long ago, and was hoping this might achieve that as well. But from the sounds of it, it's decent till about level 20 then there is no content? Is that the big issue right now? If so, then guess I should just wait a while till they add in a purpose to leveling.

-Currently playing FFXIV, and BDO.
Yes, there is always something to do, but there is just no content. Therefore you really have no reason to level.
Time will take care of those issues of course, therefore I advise you to take a look later. This game is more of a sandbox than XI ever was. Just with nothing to strive for right now.
Generic quests? oh so its all right to grind on generic mobs? also quests don't need to be generic. I guess you never played FFXI haan? it has some of the best quests i ever enjoyed.
Moreover, there is no end game so doesn't matter if you level fast or slow but if someone likes to grind they can hit lvl 50 easily. I know lots of players who hit lvl 50 within first month. With recent patch solo SP is way better and hitting level cap won't be a problem.
Also you are over exaggerating as usual regarding leveling in some of the other MMOS. One has to stop eating, sleeping and pretty much everything to hit level caps in WOW and Lotor within a week.
Please think and try to make a sensible discussion. If FFXIV is not a theme park MMO what is it? it is certainly not a sandbox. Also are you telling me that broken group SP is not a game breaking issue? shows how much credibility you have when it comes to FFXIV.
Stop spreading false info to just desperately get players to play FFXIV.

Sure there are no gamebreaking issues(apart from party sp being completely broken past 35,unable to alt-tab,broken economy, horrible optimizing job,etc....),only gamequitting issues.
It's a themepark with sandboxy features.
I think SP is not really broken right now. Just needs fine tuning. People are getting 10-14k skill per hour playing rather casually in a group above rank 30. It is close, but not yet perfect.
Group SP is very random right now. it wasn't so before. I get as little as 30 to 40 SP while in group with other 4 players (lvl 30 to 37 range). So i disagree that all it needs is fine tuning. You still get some decent SP if you DUO but any more players in your party are just burden. Raptors and Shell have been nerfed and it was one of the best soruce for SP. Why would i want to group anymore when i can hit lvl cap soloing?

I'm sure I haven't seen any sandbox features in this game. Can you show where they are?
To me it just sounds like raptors and shell have just been replaced with something else entirely.
Other players are getting pretty good skill/hour and you are not (with more than 4 players in the party).
You just have to do it differently than before. I'm sure that's quite of a culture shock, but it doesn't mean that something is broken. Fine tuning is obviously needed, to further emphasize the difference between solo and group play.
Depends what you consider "sandbox feature" obviously. I am mainly a crafter and I haven't even touched combat class aside from testing out the SP changes a bit. In how many themeparks can you do that?
And let's not forget the way economy works here.. NPC's have limited usability, players make the economy work.
I also change from one class to another, picking out what I want to do at any time, choosing my skills and spells to use for any occasion. It is one great sandbox of classes to level for me, and more will be implemented.
There is also no set way to do things. Okay, you can do guildleves in Ul'dah, but what stops you from going to Gridania instead? Nothing, really. I am not really a part of any faction or such, I can do whatever I want. There are no lore limitations in place either.
Of course the developer made content and linearity of the main scenario and other quests make sure the game is still a themepark, but there is more to it than that.
You can level just your crafting class in EQ2 without touching any combat classes. In Guild Wars you can mix and match classes and skills. FFXIV is neither themepark or sandbox. Its just a jumbled up mess with no directions or goals.FFXIV has serious identity crisis.

Again, i really doubt you even tested it yourself. I have already talked about this matter in detail on FFXIV core so instead of repeating myself i direct you to this ongoing debate..
http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/27937-solo-party-now/
Party SP is broken, i suggest you do some testing yourself on various mobs and see it for yourself.

Looking at the last page.. doesn't seem like it.
That's what I'm saying. What has already been confirmed is that even when the skill is divided, the party bonus is applied to the end. Therefore two (or more) people will get more skill from a single monster when added together than if you fought it alone.
Of course they could fine tune it so it won't be divided so drastically or something similar, but I don't see it being buggy or anything.
Unless SE has a contract saying SONY must release this on the PS3, it isn't gonna happen. Everyone seems to think that the game is gonna change once its imported over. Remember Age of Conan? Remember the big 360 promise? Microsoft Game Studios is just like any other (Sony even). If a game is utter shit, it won't get published to the console.
Sorry.
herp derp.
I am glad to hear those games have sandbox-ish features to them as well, but like I said XIV's "direction" is pretty clear. Mainly themepark with sandboxy features when applicable.
But of course if a game isn't strictly themepark or strictly sandbox it is a jumbled up mess. Of course.
It's already finished and done for PS3 all that needs doing now is tweaking to make it a perfect launch , please read up on stuff befor you comment.
A sandbox game means the devs set up the world and the players make it run as they see fit. The only thing "sandboxy" about FFXIV is there are no quests really. But there's no tools to affect the world.
Maybe it will get more "sandboxy" once they implement corps, but right now, no, and it depends on how much impact corps have on the world (I'm guessing it's not going to be very significant). It's just a themepark with no rides.
Just because there's no content does not make it anything like a sandbox MMORPG.
As far as what you're saying, you could become a full time crafter and spend all your time fishing in WoW, but that doesn't make WoW a sandbox game in any way. You're just avoiding the rides in the themepark. I guess I could see how it's easy to get confused with FFXIV because there are no rides in the themepark to begin with.

As for the OP, wait at least until there's news that there's some content in the game.
The whole problem that amybe creates a lot of discussion is in the first place to describe what someone understands under content and pelase no snippy answer haveing more quests and more x is content. I mean it serious that it is rpobelm to define this. So for example even a box with an apple inside can be a gme with content considering who does use it. Hey as a child had a battle opener a lot of content for me as well. It looked ncie I could play around and could use the closer from bottles as play figure. While for the most person that combination hardly is content.
Yes, EQ2 you can do the same. And?
Your question was what sandboxy features does XIV have. You didn't ask what features does it have that no other MMO does.
Yes, they ask how many themepark MMOs allow that. You named one. Great... more than one MMO allows crafters to focus on crafting alone. That doesn't negate their original point.
Guild Wars isn't really a valid comparison.
In FFXIV you can swap between any class in the game at will. Simply equip the weapon or tool and voila... you're effectively that class.
In GW, as I recall, you're set with the Main and Sub you choose early in the character's development, and have limited ability to change secondary professions only later on in the game, after Ascending, etc.
GW's system is, if anything, closer to XI's subjob system than it is to XIV's Armoury.
Also, in FFXIV you have access to mix and match skills from all classes in the game you've leveled. In GW you only ever have access to the skills from your main and current sub.
Frankly, bringing up GW does not undermine FFXIV's versatility, but rather highlights it.
Funny... I have a number of goals I'm working on in FFXIV. Also, FFXIV doesn't give "direction" telling you what to do next or where to go next. It gives you options to choose from on your own and pursue at your own will and whim.
Some MMOs provide direction to the player. Others leave it up to the player to determine on their own. FFXIV seems to fall into the latter category.
It's fine if you find the game doesnt' provide enough direction for *you*. Just realize that it's not the case for everyone else as well.
