i think mmorpg are giving some maturation time, which is highly valid. As somone who has played this a lot i can see the potential, but its not there yet
Yeah I agree, hopefully they will wait with their review... but then again I understand people would like a review incase they are thinking of buying it now... but then again there are already alot of reviews out there you could look up, to me it doesnt really matter since I already bought it, I would most likely advice people to wait another month or two atleast before getting it.
Game needs more content and more incentive to do certain things imho, I'm doing my 8 leves and joining the occasional japanese party for exp but I'm definitely eagerly awaiting the december patch as to add more things to do.
Personally I am not a fan of the game, that being said...
I think an unbiased review is good for any game. Make it simply this and that, what the game has and what it does not to help educate those who are interested in the game on what they will be getting into if they purchase the game.

The game is currently for sale, yes? Why should they get the benefit of "maturation time"? If the game's "not there yet", that's an even better reason to review it and warn people off.
Didn't their devs actually have the gall to ask sites to not review the game for six months? That tells me all I need to know about what even THEY think about the game.

That's not a review. That's an overview of the game's features. Reviews are pinion pieces. Also, to set the record straight, having an opinion one way or another does not make a review biased. It makes it a review. Bias implies having some kind of "other" reason to reviewing a gamea certain way.

BUT THEY HAVEN'T FOR MANY OTHER GAMES.
So it looks ridiculous.
Ok, here's the deal:
The game is simply not ready for review. The state of the game has been well documented here and at other websites.
We have a reviewer in game. We intend to do a review. There is, however, no point in stating exactly what other sources have already stated when that information will be outdated shortly anyway. Are the developers even collecting subscription fees yet?
i think mmorpg are giving some maturation time, which is highly valid.
If SquareEnix weren't so out of touch with the rest of the MMO industry, then the game wouldn't need time to 'mature'. It would have been 'review worthy' during the game's launch week. Plus i don't buy the whole 'maturation time' being a valid reason for holding off on reviewing the game as in the past MMORPG.com have shown themselves quite eager to review newly launched games within a relatively short time frame, some within only a couple of weeks to a month after launch. I can only suspect that the staff here didn't want to add more fuel to the nerd-rage fire that consumed the FFXIV forums here by adding another negative review to the heap.
Waiting 3-6 months to review a game that was clearly not ready for release doesn't help those who were, or still are, looking for information on FFXIV. The review should have been done weeks ago to inform people of the state of the game as it stood, and to spare those looking for something new to play the pain of wasting money. MMORPG.com could have revisited the game in 6 months time and re-reviewed it like it has done so for other games.

Once a game is open for commercial use then yes, it's ready for a review.
This game could have used alittle more polish and alittle more endgame content. It runs perfect now on my 6 year old machine at midsettings it runs on my macbook pro on mid-low setting at perfect FPS. The game is ready for a review without the "it lags" because thats all anyones got. Yes, there is less armor in this game then in others, I'm sorry its not like WoW and 1-80 I have to look like bozo the clown. It could use more weapons and SQ has addmited to this. It runs great it looks great and its fun to play I realy don't see why everyone is still downing on it.
Final Fantasy XI was in the same shape at release but the american did not get the chance to pick it apart before release.
All of you who think this game just droped out of the sky, a video of it was leaked like in 2005 so it has been worked on for quite sometime.

And that is what is so disappointing about this whole debacle. What the heck has SqaureEnix been doing for the past 5 years besides making a graphics engine with some meager and mediocre gameplay elements.

Are they still selling boxes? Since when did gaming sites not review something that has a retail release just because it's "simply not ready for review"? What a lame excuse.
I think there should be a review for this game in it's release condition.
I also think MMO's should be reviewed again after each major update and especially when they get expansions, since "updates" are more like "sequels" to the previous build.
Nothing is stopping you guys from reviewing the game in it's current state and doing it again later. I encourage you to do so, in fact. If anything, it is a good indicator as to where the game is headed and how much or little it has improved since the last review.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
I think we should let strad and all the other forum mods/colmnists (however these are spelled) just do their job and wait. If you want to know how the game is doing just look at Chouji's daily "I like to post fake numbers and bring FFXIV down" threads. While your enjoying yourself doing that we can wait on a MMORPG re-review. Strad is right, the game has not began to take sub fees so the game to me is technically not in a state ready for review.

This is very clearly not fair. Will you be so generous on other games? More and more I begin to expect capitalism is creeping up on this website. There is absolutely no reason to not have a review out on this game yet.
By the time you guys get around to a review it will be time for the 6 month re-review. I smell money, lots of it.
Okay, How can you sit here and say the game should not be reviewed yet? It was released it should be reviewed. Aion got reviews a week after launch. It don't count if you don't get charged 14.99? I paid 59.99 for the game on a retail shelf therefore it was released and open to be discussed for what it is.
I do think the game needs another look over now that it is not buggy as all get out.

Are you waffeling serious!!! I wholeheartedly disagree with your decision not to write a review. Is there a new review guideline of, "Oh wait MMO companies need to start collecting subs before we write a review". How is a released game that people paid for the box/client not ready for a review?
This is just bad journalism. I am very disappointed in MMORPG.com:(

please people don't just registrate here to open a thread in which you declare: "please write a review".
review comes when it comes. " when it's done!"

Then write a "first impression" instead. We are getting news on F2P browser crap or features about long dead failures but little on major MMO.
I agree, write a review. You can do another one later.
I love snails.
I love every kinda snail.
I just want to hug them all, but I cant.
Cant hug every snail.
Too soon since we are all aware of the mild changes done thus far. Its gonna need a lot more (3 more months) before I will try again thats for sure.
Here I'll beat them to it.
It sucks.
Sorry, wish we all could get our money back.

Why kick someone´s face who is Knocked out already? Ok, money would be a reason.
Waiting for the PS3 release would be a good exc... reason.

If the game is not in any state to be reviewed then it should be being sold to the general public.
