How many times have we been burned by the same company over and over again? Ive never liked ncsoft or any of their games. didnt like gw1 and didnt like aion. Why put any faith in GW2. Ill play it if they have a demo/trial version but it would have to not be another asian grind fest like the rest of their games. Maybe some good reviews will turn me. Tera and rift do seem promising but you really wont have a good idea of what these studios will turn out till they're here.
One thing made me vote for SWTOR, Bioware. I've played everything by bioware since baldurs gate and Ive never really been disapointed. Yes I'm concerned about some of the things I'm hearing but I'm pretty sure Bioware will turn out a fun and inovating game, because well, thats what they always do. If it sucks i'l cuss about it for a few days and go play something else.
In Bioware we trust
First of all GW2 is ArenaNet's, NCsoft is only a publisher.
The only games that are developed by NCsoft themselves as far as i know are Aion and Lineage.
Second - you say Tera which is KOREAN is promising when the only thing it can brag about is the target system.I haven't seen any news on content of the game or level curve except they say it will be "westenised" and that's it.
While you have concernes about GW2 which is US game and has released level curve which will not be progressive as in any other mmo out there - meaning every level will take the same time to reach opposed to traditional "the more you level the harder it is to gain the next level" and they even stated that every level will take around 90 minutes to achieve and you're afraid it will be heavy grind??
I think you should read more. I really don't know what to say to GW2 being "asian grid fest" it's just sounds so wrong and to think you "didn't liked gw1" means you played it - where did you see the mandatory grind in that game?? I've reached max level in 2 days there.
I am honestly a little surprised to see so many people still so hopelessly clueless about Guild Wars 2. It is almost as if they have wilfully avoided learning anything about the game at all. I suppose I should be grateful that people that deliberately ignorant are less likely to play the game, and therefore give it a better community.
I really do feel sorry for other developers with games coming out in the next year. I am sure TOR will get a fair number of people, but these other games are unknowns and might not do well even without the steep competition of two big name games in the same year.

Right, everyone who doesn't like GW2 should be banished from the planet.

Not necessarily, people just need to think before they start spouting out shit like; "Guild Was 2 being an asian grind-fest" when it's developed by an American studio and has released info on its "controversial" leveling curve. Or that "Guild Wars 2 will be as instanced as Guild Wars" (¬_¬). That one's particularly funny because it's easy to just look at some gameplay footage and think "Well this certainly doesn't look instanced, maybe I was wrong" but we still have idiots who are still spouting misinformation.
So instead of banishing we must ensure they understand the error of their ways.

I see this problem with every single other MMO. People spouting missinformed opinions. Not sure why GW2 is special enough to do what you say. Easiest thing to do is ignore them.
I'm interested in all of them for various reasons (besides RIFT), but GW2 is definitely my most anticipated. Like others have said, each of these titles could have grabbed the most anticipated spot easily in any other mmo gaming year.

While I agree with what you are saying, you could make a case for almost all of the upcoming games out there with misinformation. I won't comment on a game, other than what I observe, unless I gather more information about it. It's easy to spot someone who has no idea about a game in their posts.

"It has potential" -Second most used phrase on existence "It sucks" -Most used phrase on existence
ok, I have two I am awaiting, one is (big surprise) GW2 and the other one is surprisingly TERA. I know many don't see anything beyond another grinder in TERA, but lately, I've been following it a bit more and the combat just draws me in (although I'm not sure if I can ever get used to those furry races and how most of the females look). GW2 is...well, many already said why. Dynamic content, no holy trinity, interesting classes, open world, b2p, the list goes on.
Although GW2 is currently my most anticipated game, my vote goes to TERA because so many already voted for GW2 and since it might be surprisingly good. But overall, 2011 might actually be a great year for MMO players. Great choices if you compare with the new game 2010 award.
Edit: And omg! Did I forget to say Minecraft? One game that may not really be a MMO, but really good for what it is and I will definitely play it while waiting for the two above games ^^. Too bad it's not listed anywhere...
I created an account just to vote for GW2! Has anyone added how awesomely client-centered ArenaNet has already proven itself to be as a predictor of success? Sorry, I didn't read through everyone else's posts.
dunno why but for me, the real fight is between rift an tera. unless bioware or ncsoft come up with something completely new and surprise us all, SW:ToR and GW2 are gonna be the bigest disappointments in 2011...
TOR has some new things, but I think they are few and lack movement in combat (i'm more of a Jedi Academy combat). I think the fact that it has the name and lore of Star Wars gives too much atention to the game.
TERA is great in graphics and has the new kind of combat taken from shooters. I was really hyped for it in the beguining. But the truth is that it is equal in all the other aspects to all the mmorpgs before, and is a korean game = heavy grind. Of course it's a good thing they are thinking of building a westernized version of it, but how much different from the korean version will be? Apart from the anime characters, graphics and new style of combat, it still lacks innovation in a lot of things and the risk of hyping it too much can be disappointing.
DCUO has some cool things. I just searched for it recently and it has a lot of good things in combat and all. BUT I only have the opinion of it beeing good for bosses and PVP. I have to search it more though, so I can't say much more about it now.
About Rift, i don't know much about it. I surely have to learn about it in the future, because it seems that a lot of people believe in the quality of the game.
Why do I chose GW2? Because it has a lot of advantage that other games lack:
Dynamic Events (actions of players change the world around them untill other players decide to change it again), Personal story (different story for each character a player has, even with the same race and profession), Skills, skill combinations between players and a different kind of skill-bar that improves the importance of each skill and making a personal build, Traits system, no holy trinity professions, Open world PVE, Sidekick system, Dungeons change themselves and have their own story, new kind of rewards (avoid un-wanted loot), the end of grinding and senseless quests, new kind of combat too, great graphics either. And in top it's A-net we're talking about: they proved us they are professionals and hear the players, they give us all the info about how the game developpment is, they only talk about the things already implemented in the game and all their good work is proven really good with B2P payment model in GW1.
There are so many things to talk about in GW2 (and i must have forgotten something), all the things are finally something improving the way mmorpgs are done for the last 10 years. And all of the things they bring make sense.
I'm an unapologetic GW2-fanboy too! I played WoW till I got tired of all the shortcomings, and the continuing downscaling of difficulty to appeal to more casual players. Then I tried WAR for almost a year, but it didn't deliver, and I was a sad panda. After that, I was off MMOs for a year or so, then I started picking up on GW2 news and I caught the fever. I've read all there is to read, watched 50 minutes of noisy gamescom footage, scavenged for small tidbits in the interviews...
GW2 can't come fast enough, but I'm glad they're developing it for as long as they feel is necessary. The flow of information is pretty steady, and I'm fairly sated most of the time. I'm gonna buy this game to my girlfriend to get her hooked too. It will be glorious! Anet: keep true to your vision!
It was a pleasure taking part in this intelligent conversation.
I am most excited for TERA. I love the art direction, and after watching some of the boss fights from the BETA I was convinced that this will be fun. I love the action based combat!
GW2 will be fun and I will certainly buy it, but I have my doubts that a B2P model can provide much more than an "an the side" MMO. It certainly looks to be fun, but with quick leveling and no subscription I don't think it will be on the same level as games that receive monthly support in terms of long term playability.

GW2 TFW
After watching all of these very closely for the past year and watching every trailer and demo video out there practically, it's really quit unfair.
Any other year all and of them would have been promising, but only one really sticks out right now.
In 2011 we will see the beginning of a whole new mmorpg:
Guild Wars 2 by ArenaNet
If you are not voting for this, I whole-heartedly recommend you to read and view more about the game first.
It's just not fair for the rest, I know. I'm sorry the others chose this year to release.
Guild Wars 2!
