Returning and New Players

WarzodWarzod Member RarePosts: 507

It appears that our beloved FFXI is in a state of flux right now where a lot of players are either returning to the game after an unhappy excursion into XIV or are simply new players that with all the hype, and then unfortunate reviews regarding XIV have decided to give the illustrious XI a try.

With this infux of wonderful new players I fear that the community is no longer geared toward supporting such a new player base. Many of us have probably run into the difficulty of finding an active english speaking LS on whichever server we chose and to that I attribute the lack of centralized coordination. Coupled with the fact that most remaining LS are comprised of entirely endgame raiders finding a new home is tough.

As such I would like to offer any new or returning player, who will be starting a new character due to SE possibly no longer having their originals, to congregate on the Titan server together. Let's work together as a community again to help bolster the lower level player support system. I will be more than happy to provide world passes for those interested.

Now I will not be creating a new LS for this. I am already a member of a fantastic LS with a stadium full of active members. However, as they are 99% endgame they would act as a bastion of knowledge and future development, NOT as a powerleveling service or charity. I like to enjoy a game for all its splendor, go to all the instances, do all the quests, try out all the game's features... not just powerlevel grind till my eyes bleed because some people think the only good stuff to do is endgame.

For those that have played realize this, and those that are joining us know, FFXI is a brilliant, vibrant, alive world, full of boss mobs, notorious enemies, and great dungons. And they all start as early as level 5-10. So again, this won't be for everyone. But I know there are players out there like myself that would just love a great group of like leveled players that just enjoy gaming. Now with the level synch system it is easier than ever.

Well give Titan a try. Send me a message on this forum if you are interested and gather some friends to come with you. The more the merrier. Let's not have all the new players spread out, two on this server, 3 on this, 1 over here, etc. Together we can make the new player experience a million times better for all of us.

I decided today to get Final Fantasy XI again (mainly because Steam is selling the entire kit and kabootal for 10$ and I haven't played in years)

I'll see you on Titan. Send me a whisper about joining your linkshell if the offer is still open.

Looks like you haven't gotten online yet maybe. I made my character on Titan, and maybe I chose the wrong country but it does seem pretty quiet. Not quet as in lack of players, but quiet as in everyone ignores the people with the ? above their heads, and noone is signed up as a mentor.

Been way too long since I've played and I'm getting used to it, but I've enjoyed it so far. Send me a message on the forum and we'll talk.

@ the op ,you sound like an identical gamer as myself,i care for the whole game and really do not get into that whole end game hype.Problem is i deleted half of my game because i needed the disc space.

This is called forming a STATIC party, definitely the BEST way to play FFXI,you get to know each other and learn to play with each other perfectly.A static needs to stick together in levels, even with the mentoring system,it is the best way to play. Also if serious about this, need 6 players to all start in the same city, reason is the missions can be done once together.

If you are serious about a static for FFXI [greatest game design ever] :D,i would consider being  a 6th member.

BTW i am strict about a Static , which basically means need to be serious about sticking together,i think this is what the OP is asking for anyway no?

Good to see some interest...not sure about other 2 posters here, seems the OP is already in a LS so not sure exactly his intentions, sounds to me like he would want a static, need to hear from him and the otehr guy. Those two would give us 5 only needing one more to form a 6 man static.

I hope people interested realize this game is by no means easy mode, the good thing about that is EVERYTHING you accomplish feels satisfying. This is a game you can and WILL die in,not to worry is no big deal a few kills and your back to square one.

BTW you don't need world passes,at least not when i last played, you could pick any server you wanted. Also if anyone has started and wants to get in on forming a static it is not too late to change servers, easy to do,won't take long to get back lost level time spent.Consider your starting adventure as a get the feel for the game thingy lol.

I should mention Square Enix requires a verified Credit card.If no can do ,i think there is another option but would probably require calling them long distance.

    Static sounds fun.

I'd like to know by tonight what country we're rolling with though cause if I rolled in the wrong country I would want to know soon so I can remedy this.  :)

Wow! I have been monitoring this thread for weeks now and no one seemed to give it a second glance. Then in two days it explodes! Well better late than never. ;) I am happy to let everyone know that I placed this same thread on the FFXI Allakhazam website and have had incredible responses. At current we have around 12 new, low level players all hanging out and having a great time.

As for the static party. I am very familiar with the concept and have coordinated several in past years/games. With FFXI however, the developers have FINALLY taken a note page from City of Heroes and included the amazing Level Synch System. Now any party of adventurers over level 10 can simply select one of its members and everyone else is automaticly matched to their level.

With this system myself and another friend, both just 16, met up with a new arrival outside Windhurst and bing, we were all level 10 and having a great time hunting. The higher levels even continue to gain experience while synched so no one is wasting their time... only great adventures.

We are all taking our time, meeting up, and getting to know one another. No one is feeling rushed, no one is forced to select a class they do not want to play or a nation they do not feel connected with. We currently have people already that have voluntarily selected every vital base class so anyone else wishing to join us please... always play what you enjoy. If you are worried about starting nations please do not. I personally have a WHM that I have used to invis/deodorize/sneak low level members clear from Windhurst to San'Doria without incident.

Now we are currently congregating around San'Doria as our initial stomping grounds so eventually we would like people to meander there but we WILL be doing all the nation's missions for everyone as well as local BCNM and quests for each nation in time. No one is left out.

I am currently in a LS called Sentinel that I created just to let us all talk and ask newbie questions easier. I am however a member of one of the server's larger end-game LSs so eventually we will have dozens or great people to do all the fantastic end game content with as well.

I do wish to stress once again however, the end game is NOT our primary goal. Our goal is to experience all the great events, areas, monsters, features, classes, etc, etc, this magnificent game has to offer. Anyone interested in finally relaxing, kicking back and living in this world more than bullet training past it we would love to have you walk with us. But no running. ;) Send me a message on these forums if you like or simply look me up in game. Befriend Shadex or look for one of our pearl sack holders (Eadoni, Sounan, Heimgrand) to get you started. We are having an amazing time and cannot wait to share it with the rest of you.

I am only interested if 5 others want to static.reason mentoring is no good is because once the higher player gets to certain places in the game like gear or 50+ quests, the lower players cannot help, and the purpose i think here is to form a bond of players working together. If everyone forms a Static then they move through the important parts of the game together at the same time.

Also mentoring means you are forver in the same zones, eventually players get bored and will start to ignore their friends and move onto new places and get help from other high end players.I rather a set of people stick together throughout the game.

So do we have 5 others to static ??

No worries. The group isn't for everyone. I hope you find your 5.

  • SenanSenan Member UncommonPosts: 788

Man Warzod, you really have a way with words haha. After reading your posts, I'm just about convinced that I'll be making another return to the game. You and your LS seem to have the same "have fun and relax" mindset that I've always had with gaming as well. That type of mentality seems more and more rare these days so it's refreshing to meet people like yourself, especially in one of the older, much more established games like FFXI.

All that said, I'm really, really close to reactivating FFXI on my steam account. I actually got it about a two months ago, but since I didn't really know anyone and since I wasn't able to find a 'new player friendly' LS on the server I chose, I burned myself out on solo grinding. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good solo session, but after awhile you really yearn for a change of pace - not to mention, some occasional human interaction :p.

I'm going to think about it a bit more today and I'll send you a PM later today/tonight when I finally figure out what I'm going to do.

And for what it's worth, a big thanks for doing what you're doing. The gaming world can never have enough helpful players and guilds; I know I appreciate it :).

I have played FFXI on and off since it's launch, I think my main had over a year of logged in time.  I stopped playing due to real life got in the way, though now it seems that I'm able to have a little more free time.  Since XIV was a major letdown I might just sign into steam and get the Complete edition, and start a new toon.  The last time I logged in they also had the field training manuals are they still around?

  • WarzodWarzod Member RarePosts: 507

Thank you Alacres. That was very kind of you to say. Take your time and maybe if you do not decide to join us now perhaps at a later date. With the level synch system we will always be ready to group with you.

As for the field manuals, if you are refering to the little floating books that are found in each zone dolling out quests to hunt various local monsters, yes, they are there. A few of our first groups together were doing those hunts as a group. :)

  • AzminAzmin Member Posts: 23

Looks like I won't be able to even think about it till I get home from work, so starting in Sandy, I know you mentioned that the group already has all the core jobs needed, but since when I last played it was as a RDM, which although one of the mops powerful jobs in the game imo, bored me to tears.  I guess my main question at this point is have you guys gotten to sub jobs or advanced jobs yet?  Wondering how much time I'm going to have to put in this weekend to catch up or see if I can recover my old account.  A 75 RDM can be very useful, even if all it does in a party is refresh. :)

  • WarzodWarzod Member RarePosts: 507

Azmin, we are just getting folks together around Valkurm to start hooking people up with their sub-jobs. No rush. After that we will see about making sure everyone has Chocobo riding capability and we will take it from there. Really just taking it easy. Don't you worry at all. We have a ton of RDMs heh, you are absolutely welcome to play whatever you want, but if you have ever enjoyed tanking we could use another meat shield.

Fair enough, I'll roll a MNK, till 18 then go WAR till 30, then either go PLD or NIN

I am a veteran of almost 5 years total and decided to return. Would love to be a part of the static group and absolutely adore healing if that helps. I love to dps as a caster also. I will be logging in this evening after the game finishes downloading (12-27) on a fresh account.(Decided to start over and enjoy the game all over again) I have been away for a very long time (about two years) but have many many fond memories and am ready to tackle this world again. :)

  • WarzodWarzod Member RarePosts: 507

Well welcome back. We would love to have you with us. It is pretty late so I am not certain who will be on but send me a message on these forums with your character name and I will add you to my friends list. Looking forward to meeting up with you in game.

  • EmberingEmbering Member Posts: 7

Thank you very much. I do have one question though. I am looking for the config file to set up my controller to be prepared when this download is finished but I can't seem to find it. I am downloading this through that new steam stuff where it puts it in their file system and it isn't where it once was. Any ideas?  As  soon as I can, it'll be much later today, I will put my character up and ty again.

  • AzminAzmin Member Posts: 23

Steam's a bit annoying about it, I don't have anything installed through steam at work but here's were to start looking, C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamapps or C:Program FilesSteamsteamapps if you're running 32 bit Windows.

On a Side note I've got my account created, and got my character made an Elvaan Monk named Azmin.  Haven't really had much of a chance to login and play I've been a little busy with the holidays and such, but he's up to lvl 7.

  • WarzodWarzod Member RarePosts: 507

I am not certain of the config location, my apologies. I always set up my controller post installation using the built in utility.

Azmin, I figured as much. I wasn't expecting a great deal of activity out of anyone until after the holidays. We will see you both soon though.

Find this kind of encouraging really, FF XI is definitely a much better game than FF XIV..  and if you havent played it, its worth trying, and as has already been mentioned, Steam are flogging the game on the cheap at the moment - i did the same kind of thing with Aion.. though... i gave up on it after a week - got bored.. wish i'd gotten a copy of FF XI instead image

I restarted FF11 and promply quit, partying has gone the way of the dinosaur which was the main reason I bothered with this game, least for the non-abysea area's. IMO Abysea ruined the game by making it a total joke to go from 30 to 90. I didn't have it but if I have to be forced to blow 30 bucks to level a lv 30 job due to no parties anywhere else, i'd rather quit tbh.

"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."

Well anyone interested in enjoying the "old-school" areas let me know. I specificly created this group for people that wanted to slow down and enjoy the REST of the game. I honestly don't think anyone in the LS even has the Abyssea expansion. :) We are just here to hang out, do missions, BCNM, conquests, expeditions, assault, NM, you know... all the stuff we loved before the game went the way of the Lich King.

Anyway, there is no rush. We just ask that everyone keep it on the mature level. We have a wonderful group so far and would be more than happy to have anyone else interested in jumping off the powerlevel train and smelling the roses.

  • AzminAzmin Member Posts: 23

Speaking of NM's ran into my first one yesterday on the new character, I can't recall the name at the moment but it's the ram nm in East Ronfaure, I think it's RamBukk, previous experience told me that a lvl 7 Monk w/o sub should not try to fight a NM even if it's in the starting zones, I did anyway, just for the fun of it.  What I found interesting was that I lasted for two hit's from the NM, so yeah I died but I got a laugh out of it, it's those kind of moments that I missed from FF XI.
