GW2 Vs. Cataclysm

Hey, I hope for this too be a non troll non flame thread, since we now have had a taste of cataclysm and some endgame content has been revealed by the 85 gamers. Do you think from what we know seen and heard from GW2 which will attract more to its endgame/raiding aspect of the game or just the game in general. Whatch y'all think?

I think Cataclysm is just something to do until GW2 comes out.

  • ArtixiusArtixius Member Posts: 40

Haha thats funny I was kind of thinking the same thing, call it an entertainment then move on. I dont think the repetitive gear grind and raiding content will hold everyones attention for another 2 years.

gw2 is a full game, cata is an expansion only.

why make that comparison?.. tho i believe the same as the guy wrote above, play cata untill gw2 comes out :p

its too hard to make a real comparison as Cataclysm is just coming out and Guild Wars 2 is still a ways away; not to mention that no real indepth info on guild wars 2's end game has really come out. I have no doubt that pvp will have some cool things for guild wars 2's endgame, but thats not restricted to top level players at all (that is levels not a player's particular skill). Guild wars 2 has several dungeons that we are told will be some of the hardest pve content, but thats not restricted by level either, not to say that all dungeons are accessable at level one, but there will be a fair amount of dungeons for every level. Also hold in mind that with guild wars 2's side kicking system you will be able to go back and experience lower level dungeons and other events that you hadnt experienced at those levels even if your level 80, so the entire game world opens up to you.

They have mentioned that the continent of Orr will be the holder of the highest most difficult dungeons and events; those familiar with the lore, the continent of orr rose to the surface of the ocean when the dragon Zhaitan awoke, and turned all of the previous inhabitants into his walking undead army.

But even though we know little about guild wars 2's endgame I trust that Anet will make it interesting, so Im gonna bet on them, I mean did you see the purple dragon in the demo? thats not even an elder dragon, they stated the others are gonna be muuuuch bigger.  DDDD: epic ness is epic

On that note, lol its clear Im a fan of Guild Wars and Anet, but more than that Guild Wars 2 is my personal preference. WoW isnt for me even if it has a good endgame in Cataclysm, Im just more interested in GW2. Although I think for WoW fans it might be easier to try GW2 as it doesnt have a monthly sub.

If you want end game traditional raiding then stick with Cataclysm.

  • GennadiosGennadios Member Posts: 209

Being a veteran GW player, and having dabbled a bit in WoW, all I have to say is that ANet is making ALOT of changes to the GW1 formula that seem designed specifically for encroaching  on WoW territory.

GW2 will be a whole new game, meaning it's in a position to make real gameplay improvements based on lessons learned over the past 5 years. Blizzard is trying, but they're saddled with 4 years of old code and concepts, so there's only so much they can do.

I think GW2 has a real shot of taking a bite out of WoW's population, but that's only if their game ends up where their hype is.

I agree that an expansion cannot be compared to a full game release.

Blizzard has a fine expansion. HOwever, If you are burning out or tired of WoW, you will continue to do so in Cataclysm.

So far from whatever i have read and seen if you want traditional end game raiding stick with WOW. GW2 will have end game dungeons but not up to the standard you are looking for. GW2 in my opinion will be mostly PVP at end game.

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

Actually TRADITIONAL end game raiding required raids of 40+.. I dont' see that anymore, do you?  lmaoo  OR are we now redefining "traditional" to 10 or 25 man content?    As for me.. GW2 is a step back in the right direction.. Raids shouldn't be "capped" by some lame mathmatical number like 10.. I'm sorry..  In the course of history, most raids meant bring as many as you can to the fight, cause you're going to need them.. LOL  Those were the days.. the ole glory days of true raiding.. Not this Esport group thing they have going nowadays..  I hope GW2 can pull this off as I'm looking forward to big 20, 30 and 40 man raids on some nasty boss..

How does one even consider comparing an expansion with an entirely new mmo ?

If you don't care about the game and don't have a clue about it, how would you even know why are we so hyped about it ?

GW1 started off as very pvpcentric at launch, however if you look at it now its swung the otherway, with alot more pve focus (N.B  pvp is still amazing). due to eotn being built with gw2 in mind i see the pve theme being continued.

A: It depends on the event. Epic events like the Shatterer can scale the difficulty up to 100 players and more. In normal events this would not make much sense, because in the chaos of 100 people and thousands of monsters noone would know what's happening anymore.

Dynamic events is not the same thing as raiding. That is not what we were discussing about ;)

If you don't want people trolling, don't see stupid things like this, even if it's true. Anyway, there's no point in comparing a game which isn't even out yet.

Cataclysm: something not to play while waiting for Guild Wars 2 to release.

Just have no interest in WoW anymore.  It's done like dinner for me.  Until something interesting comes along in the meantime, I'll continue playing GW -- and not for the PvP.

Don't be so obtuse. I meant traditional raiding in that you generally plan ahead and gather a big group of players to tackle a problem (dungeon, boss, whatever). Yes, WoW has made the number of players involved in a raid go down but it is still a traditional setup.

GW2 won't have that. Well, correction on that. Their dynamic events will provide situations where a big group of players can get involved (such as the Shatterer event in the demo). But if you are looking for a game that provides raid style instances then you'll have to look elsewhere.

the shatterer event look quite a raid to me.

wow raid: big boss, bunch of a**holes, chucknorris jokes, epicx.

gw2 shatterer event: big boss, bunch of a**holes, epics (marks).

    see quite the same.

    now: GW2 (11 80s).
    Dark Souls 2.
    future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
    "Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
