This game has one of the worst communities of all mmos in the histiry of mmos, they are so freaking negative I could almost smell it coming off the moniter, I liked the game a lot, but left because of the community, cant stand a$$holes who think their sh1t dont stink and everyone elses does.
If anyone came to this game and mentioned that they came from another game, they were automatically dirt, they just sucked because they havent been playing Aion since it was launched, and all other games suck besides Aion, if you mention another game you are trash, total idiots here.
Every other game I have ever played, I mentioned just playing a particular game and usually several people strike up conversations saying how they know that game how they like/dont like it but never put me downbecause of it, and never put me or anyone down because they mention any other games.
Its just a beautiful Asian grinder game anyways, I played this game for 1 month but didn't live up to the hype. This will be another mmorpg that goes F2P sooner or later.
Aion will not be going F2P. Keep in mind that it likely has higher subs in NA then pretty much every NA MMO outside of WOW such as WAR, EQ2, AOC, etc etc and it cost them next to nothing to just translate it and launch it here. The only thing I see putting Aion into a poor state population wise will be the release of GW2 and SWTOR which I believe will pull a large majority of its population out but these wont be out until the 2nd half of 2011 at best.
Says who? LOL
Seriously NCSoft last Q2 financial report says they are going F2P with microtransaction, it's in the report, it's not an answer I pulled out of my arse. Shatter30 don't mean to bash on your answer, next time google it up instead of replying your personnal opinion into an official reply. As for higher subs... You are dead wrong again, just google it up.
Cliffnotes:
- Lineage, Lineage2 and Aion goes to microtransaction system. The reason is: call back the inactive players base.
- After the 2.0 start in oversea (EU,USA): The NCSoft will provide new operation team/knowhow, customer support, powerwiki/etc., and 'customer convininence' on same level like in Korea.
How about reading your own quoted lines first, before blaming others, to realize even in your quote of a comment about the report there is nothing mentioned about an F2P itemshop in sense of gear/pots/xppotion etc sales nor Aion supposedly going F2P and thats all just YOUR personal opinion?
Aion microtransaction = selling skins, costumes and other vanity imtes or minor common replaceable pets...nothing else.
Well not my personal opinion, but... After asking around within the CM community I found out that the financial report was never published in english and this is from a translation. Even after reviewing the whole report and even if later it is translated into F2P model with cash shop, the translation should read current model with cash shops.
Basically plan was to open shops because of possible new/returning players and use this to create a new income. I only pasted part of the report I really didn't feel like browsing through again and only provided the microtransaction. But it doesn't matter at this point the report was lost in translation.
Sorry about the confusion I didn't translate this myself, nor I could.
Well if its going to be a free for all gank fest then there probably will be an item shop to buy some item that will reduce death penaltys, or prevent them altogether. Sucks to sub a game and have to spend more in a cash shop.

Thread doesn't even matter anymore, it's apparent that the care bears helped steer this game towards PVE by bitching and moaning up a QQ storm to NCsoft W offices.
Everyone is crafting, there is fifty people in the alchemists' guild atm, lol double XP craft/gathering weekend. They already forgot about the new rifts. This game is all about handouts on a silver platter and the new flavor of the week lottery ticketz!

Aww please... Get over yourself. Even the cutest, most cuddly carebear would not be able to create 2% of your average "PvP'ers" QQ.
It's really simple: NCsofts goal is to earn as much as they can from their game. They will try to steer the game in the direction that is most likely to fulfill their goal. Simple and absolutely understandable concept.
Forum etc. QQ will not change that. Who knows - They might find the amount of "open world pvp" players are enough to warrant a focus on that playstyle. Looking at most of the MMORPG business though, I would call that a long shot
Simple fact: 1 PvE player == 1 PvP player in sub fees. Looking at general MMORPG genre: Players interest == >80% PvE.

Sad day indeed. I rather enjoyed the game without the constant (and childish) ganking. Pvp in games should ALWAYS be restricted to specific Pvp battle areas. This is a bad move on NCSoft's part. Their saving grace is Anet and GW2.
My opinion is the exact opposite to yours.
I don't rift regularly, but when damage reductions were up I found it extremely boring to do quests or tap essence because there wasn't that constant fear of getting jumped and beaten to death.
After these changes one has to rotate the camera around to see if there's anyone around and keep looking at the enemy actions chat to see if there's anything indicating about a nearby rifters.
Exitement at the roof, nothing childish in the mechanism and no need to restrict PvP.

Ye, considering death penalty from PvP death is 1Kinah and some Abyss points lost
Actually the death from a GANKING death is not just 1 kin and some AP.
1) You just lost all of your DP that you needed to save your life when things go wrong when hunting.
2) You lost all of your food buffs, etc.
3) You end up having to wait a couple of minutes where you respawn and then have to fly and then run back to where you were.
4) When you get back you could very well be ganked again.
-------
In essence it costs you about 10 minutes and 25,000 kin per gank -- assuming it goes like the above and you get the pvp penalty.... And you cant perer your DP back on the second gank in a row.
------
Thing is just as often you are attacked while fighting a monster. This can very well end up with your death being to the monster and not the ganker. Which while they do not get their AP bonus for killing you in that case, you end up with a standard pve death which costs you 2-3% of your exp for the level.
Or you could be attacked while harvesting a node in the air and fall to your death causing the same PVE death penalty. In fact if you want to grief a level 50 character working on their aethertapping -- waiting until they are low on flight time and binding their wings so they splat onto the ground is a good way to get them to lose exp.
-----------
Oh and I thought of another solution. Why not have Rifting on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays and the homeland buff on the other 4 days?

Aion is a young game and there are a lot of young people that play it. So you can see where I'm going with this. Other MMO's don't attract or have such a young crowd like Aion did. Also you have people who are tired of the WOW stigma this game gets. So they get defensive if you complain about Aion. I think if you want to discuss other games strike up a convo with a smaller group of people instead of using LFG chat like everyone else. I also think NCsoft should watch the chat a bit more than they do. This being said, I still find Aion's crowd no worst than any other MMO I've been in. There will always be jerks and such but there are cool too. Next time try another server because if you really liked the game you shouldn't be run off by something so trival.

If you get killed by a monster and were hitted by another player even once before that, it's counted as a PvP death instead of PvE death. Facts straight, k?
The same goes when you fall of the sky and were hitted by a player.
And a lvl 50 player that has flight time low is doing so much wrong and deserves to die horribly. Fine wind serums give you 60 seconds of flight time and have 64 seconds CD, you never go low on your flight time.
I don't agree with your calculation on 25k Kinah penalty, but let's say it is correct. In a game where you get that amount from 4 vendor trash drops it's nothing.
But, if you're really that afraid of getting killed by another player why don't you play your game in Brusthonin or Theobomos. They're PvE only areas and host all levels that rifting areas do.
You can always say "but I can't play the entire game I paid for" and be wrong about it. You paid for a game that has PvE areas with rifting. You don't order hamburger in a restaurant and demand a steak.
As I said earlier, I don't rift myself but welcome rifters to come and try me when I PvE. If they down me, so be it. Usually they don't. To me rifters break the routine in grinding and give the excitement in form of real danger in PvE world where NPC monsters can't kill you (unless you fall unconcious on your keyboard and still there's a chance your forehead will roll on the keyboard and launch skills).
So this game is almost entirely PVP orientated, is there no way of bypassing this ? was thinking of trying it as the price of Aion is down quite a bit. but.. by the sound of it.. it sounds like you have gank squads just hitting solo players doing quests etc? or am i missing something here?

Yep and the game even encourages it -- It is hard for people to do the "kill 10 class 9" quest without killing poor innocents who have no chance to defend themselves at all.
The game was a LOT better when they had the homeland buffs up and rifting was seriously hobbled.
I havent seen any of the results of that recent survey we had but I hazzard to guess that it gave them a no win scenario -- there are a lot of predators in aion and they prefer it like it now is -- where they can hunt down people who have no chance of fighting back and grief them. There are some that get their jollies that way. There is a significant faction that do NOT like that -- many of which are new players who came when rifting was neutered.
Unless they do something like "homeland buffs are up half the week and down half the week" I do not see any way to please both sides.

While I hate to say so... No the game is not really neither PvP nor PvE oriented. It is basically Time > skill/RL mental capacity.
PvE game up until lvl 20 (out of 55) will be ok. In its current format 20+ will depend a lot your server. Chances are it will be a gankers heaven. As a new player you will have NO chance - Skill does not matter when gear is king!
Basically: It your interest is PvE: Pay to play 40-50% of the content. Rest is: Enjoy 2 instances and be a part of the "Top" legions or have fun being "Gear vs. gear" cannon fodder.
Aion had a lot of potential. Sadly NCSoft seems reluctant to actuallally unleash that potential to their (supposedly) westenized clients.
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!! (repeat ad infinitum)
what i dont understand is that having lvld up to 20, travelled to morheim with a pve experience, i then spent the next 17 lvls being ganked.its not that i mind pvp but its always the same peeps who wait til your attacking a mob for a quest then they pounce, not giving you a fighting chance basically.these are the people that have ruined aion for me, i stopped subbing.like most pvp should be restricted to pvp areas, so those that want to do it can do it when they want to.i really enjoyed the game up until the open pvp. and before someone says well its a pvp game, thats fine but lets have it balanced.no way is this game balanced and those that think so are deluded.moment i stepped out of morheim i think it was they were waitin in grp to gank..so if you guys were one of those people , you have ruined a good game.congratulations
what i dont understand is that having lvld up to 20, travelled to morheim with a pve experience, i then spent the next 17 lvls being ganked
Thank you Kev.
You basically extracted all the moan, whine, qq's and told us why this, otherwise goodlooking and polished game will never succeed in the west: Being on the receiving end of "ganking" is not fun if you have no way of fighting back!
Aion supports gankers - Lets see if ganker support is enough to keep Aion running.
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!! (repeat ad infinitum)

There aren't any quests for a good portion of the range, true. There are mobs to kill, though. There's plenty of bots who've leveled 25-43 in Theo just by farming mobs so that they can avoid being ganked by rifters. I still see the occassional glad on autopilot there, killing anything that moves. Once you hit 43 or so you can start picking up quests again.
That's for Theo, however. I'm not familiar at all with Brust, but I imagine it's the same since all the zones are mirrors of each other.
They just keep screwing this game up and are about to lose a ton of subs. The issue isn't the open world pvp, its the design of the world it self and game mechanics that favor griefers. The world is so small, the quest areas are so linear that there is no escape. Plus, since players can be easily spotted on a mini map, they don't have to go out of the way to find you.
In other games, with open PvP, you could find a little hub to escape to...it took a bit of searching and effort to find you. You can't hide in Aion...they world is just too small.
Comments
too little to late, the game is still a grindy piece of bleh even after the changes it still isnt fun.

We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!

what i dont understand is that having lvld up to 20, travelled to morheim with a pve experience, i then spent the next 17 lvls being ganked.its not that i mind pvp but its always the same peeps who wait til your attacking a mob for a quest then they pounce, not giving you a fighting chance basically.these are the people that have ruined aion for me, i stopped subbing.like most pvp should be restricted to pvp areas, so those that want to do it can do it when they want to.i really enjoyed the game up until the open pvp. and before someone says well its a pvp game, thats fine but lets have it balanced.no way is this game balanced and those that think so are deluded.moment i stepped out of morheim i think it was they were waitin in grp to gank..so if you guys were one of those people , you have ruined a good game.congratulations

No,you can't.
There are no lvl 25-40 mobs/quests in Theobomos or Brusthonin.
You could choose to level in Theobomos all the way...
You could also choose to repave a motorway with matchsticks by hand one at a time...
