Gonna be interesting when LOTRO mops up the commpetition j/k. I've made it clear that there are more negatives that stick out with me as far as EQ2X goes and it is more restrictive than LOTRO but I can't deny that in an overall sense the community is split between which of these two have the best models.
The bottom line for me though is you can get through the entire game of LOTRO for FREE where as it isn't possible to do with EQ2x (people keep mentioning you can play the entire game from lvl 1-80 for free but my experience is that is possible with all the games on the list). And at the end of the day when you hear people say things like "if you pay $200 for the year you get blah, blah, blah" well then that kind of defeats the purpose of being "free to play" especially when you are talking about that amount of money which is only $100 short of the lifetime subs for lot's of games.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Why would LOTRO mop up the opposition? It did nothing. It took cash shop from completely unrelated game and made it worse; it is like putting Tauren as LOTRO race, it does nothing for the game and it does not fit, just the kids will go "yay i can be tauren Gandalf, this rocks".
DDO gets my vote, Lotro was a close second though, EQ2x .. i wouldnt touch with a bargepole, and Vindictus isnt available outside of NA, which makes it more than a little pointless.
Easy choice for me...LotRO. EQ2x is just way to limiting without purchases. You can play LotRO up to 65 for free and even earn points in-game to buy those "extra" things. Like I said, easy choice.
LotRO and EQ2 as well as DDO are free to play for a reason lol. They are MMO's that were on there way out. Going free to play increased the population for those that were paying so that they will continue to stay and do so.
Wizard 101 well, for what it is it's not bad. Just not my thing.
Runes of Magic... well, If I wanted something along that lines I'd honestly just play WoW. I know, I know, I just don't get it and WoW and RoM are nothing alike and I'm just a hater. I just found the same things to dislike in RoM that I found in WoW.
Vindictus on the other hand is the only next gen F2P on the list. It includes mechanics and such that you will find in the up coming "Next Gen" MMO's.
While I despise the instancing in Vindictus I overlook it because of it's innovations in combat and environment usage.
When only one game on the list isn't an aging dinosaur or a close copy of one of the aging dino's full of the same old thing we've had for 5-10 years it's an easy decision in my book.
Couldn't vote for Vindictus because, as has been stated, many can't even try it due to the regional restrictions. That would be a fairly significant number of possibel votes it misses out on there.
Voted LOTRO in any case, even though the fact it has only just become f2p after being p2p for the larger part of the year sits weirdly with me.
EQ2X has my Vote i played Eq2 for a long time and then went to LOTRO and got a life time account there when found out about EQ2X i come to it and have been playing it every sence there is alot you can do for free there as far as the market being over priced if you mean the broker that is player related but if ya mean the cash shop i find it ewsonable if you want quality entertainment you will have to pay for it the best things in life are sometimes free but the best entertainment is never free. that being said for what you get entertainment wise my vote is for EQ2X for best F2P game of 2010
LotRO and EQ2 as well as DDO are free to play for a reason lol. They are MMO's that were on there way out.
Some people are so misinformed.
indeed..
on topic: I voted Lotro, the game is just well done over all. I love their free to play method in which you can do quests and deeds for store points to eventually unlock more content.
Edit: I see the OP said "game" and not "MMO"...I'd say Vindictus is second on my list then.Cool game, though it can get a bit repetitive.

You have no idea what you are tallking about, do you?

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

Im picking on WoW btw because its the beast that made all of this possible
This was a hard pick for me because there are 4 games on this list that i love and play. But i went with LOTRO. Runes of Magic was really close though.
While I've put several years into EQ2, I can't say much for it's extended service. But given that it's still basically the same game, I can't say I'm too excited to see it go F2P.
LOTRO has always been underrated. I'd almost vote for it due to it's polish, but again, it's just another P2P gone F2P.
I've been playing Vindictus all week, I'm entirely hooked. While there are currently only three classes I'm having enough fun with the one that I chose to say it's the most deserving.
I'll have to say LOTRO due to graphics alone. I played from beta through Level Cap of Mines of Moria then had to go back to WoW due to wife playing WoW. But I came back when LOTRO went F2P and was reminded of how polished the gameplay/graphics/ and the new cash system looked and felt. Though all these games I have played only LOTRO makes me feel like I am not only playing what a MMORPG is supposed to be, but also how a F2P is succesfully done.
P.S. To the comment about the games being on their way out (DDO and LOTRO) they had a solid player base, they just wanted to increase their base. The same reason WoW redid entire zones with Cataclysm, to pull more people in, not because they were hurting.
LOTRO's player base had been dwindling because there was almost no new content in the game since the release of Moria, and the end game basically consisted of making an alt.
And whee, still no more new content (worth mentioning) for another year. But hey, they finally realized they could sell more in the store than recycled festival stuff and stat tomes. $20 mounts with the best stats.
The graphics might be nice (lanscapes anyway) but it's basically got 1/3 to 1/4 the content of EQ2 and the game stops at level 30 unless you shell out money to buy more quest packs.
i will vote for Vindictus. i'm disappointed with DDO, want to access their dungeon ? sure , buy it from the cash shop. want to access another dungeon? sure, you have to pay it again.
and their cash shop you have the option to buy it for like 7 days, 14 days , 1 month, or permanently.
to access everything? sure , pay $14.99 per month. i rather play WoW or Aion.
Been playing LOTRO since Alpha and still P2P. Tried all the others but LOTRO keeps pulling me back. It seems to have the best mix of it all. F2P isn't my thing, but to each his own.
EQ2X. It lets you play all content for free except the last expansion. Which subscribers have to pay for too btw. LOTRO doesnt give all content for free, unless you are willing to start a mindnumbing grindfest. I play games for fun, not to have even more work in my life.
Im not sure if Vindictus is even available for the whole world. If not, it shouldnt even be on the list.
Has meaningful content from level one all of which can be had for free. DDO was also fun since it had a rule set which everything follows.
EQ2x a close last for it's overly restrictive model, and it's mind numbing questing with a distinct lack of any type of creature AI. Not even F2P can help that mess.

Vindictus all the way even with it's flaws.
Would have been Vindictus if it was not for the fact that they shut out everyone outside North America.

No contest really. LOTRO all the way.
LOTRO easily. I don't play FTPs but I DO and WILL play LOTRO. Pretty simple, really.

LOTRO. Definitely because it altered it's business model to winning effect and maintains an MMO a lot of ppl really enjoy.

DDO= epic failed.
Which FF Character Are You?
Been playing LOTRO since Alpha and still P2P. Tried all the others but LOTRO keeps pulling me back. It seems to have the best mix of it all. F2P isn't my thing, but to each his own.
Some of the games listed are more free to try than free to play actually.
