Hello,
I was just wondering what all you can do for free. Is it set up somewhat like DDO where a lot of content is pay to play after a certain level. With that said can fellow guild members buy you a guest pass to said content asin DDO?
Thanks,
Dustin

For now all the questing content is free up to the low to mid 20's all the starter area's, and one of the next hubs called the lone lands is also free. You also have access to the entire epic line of quests and some but I don't think all of the skirmishes. Unfortunately I'm not too certain of whether or not a kin mate can purchase access to certain quests for you, though it isn't anything I've ever heard of.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
You can quest in Ered Luin, the Shire, Bree-Land, and the Lone Lands for free. That will get you to about level 30-33. You can do the epic quests. There are a couple of skirmishes for free. Supposedly you can access the whole world now, including Moria and Mirkwood. So grinding mobs to level up to 65 should be possible, in theory. I don't believe they have implemented guest passes yet.
Yes, after level ~30 (Turbine gifted Lone Lands to all F2P players recently) you need to unlock other content, but just like in DDO, currency can be acquired for free just by playing the game and doing deeds, although you WILL need to grind over multiple characters to get enough points.
Not true any longer, that was based on a calculation back in beta days when LLs cost over 600 TP and we didn't know you could do skirmishes, not to mention before they introduced the task system that gets you atleast to level 50. Not to mention back then you had to buy MoM and Mirkwood just to be able to get to max level, grinding or not.
Nowadays its actually quite easy to reach maxlevel without making several chars. It all depends on the amount of time you want/can spend. For example if you only play like one hour per day buying quests makes almost no sense at all, you can spend 1-2 hours just doing skirmishes and epic quest every day. And in all honesty the quests outside the epic line are not that much more interesting or varied than skirmishes ...
Really? I had no idea, but that's great news.
I just returning to Lotro in these days but sadly I found 2 of my characters got lot of stuffs missing, especially the highest level armor set while still at lv 60 cap, plus Nimble goat are disappeared too. A minstrel and a guardian. And I have been doing these instances for so many times just for the armors. My minstrel got 2 sets of armors, one is light armor which used to doing raid or instances, another is crafted medium armor, not a set for soloable grinding. And the system just keep the medium armor.
Because It's free so you can't complain about the lost, especially, the account has been suspend for more than a year. Anyway, I am not going to run the instance again just for armors.
I think Lord of the Rings online can be played completely free, but you have to put some time in it then...
When you complete a deed, you get Turbine Points (5, 10, 15 or even 20 for some deeds). Collecting these points, and keeping an eye on the daily / weekly pack discounts, allows you to play the game for the most part for free. I say most part, because Moria & Mirkwood are still sold as stand-alone expansions, and they are 2495 and 1995 points respectively. Some members in my kinship do put the time & effort into playing LotRo completely free, and so far they have bought already 50% of the content from the points earned
About quest passes... They're not here, and I hope that they won't be implemented EVER! Right now I already see "players" bot their way through the content with mini fellowships of 2 to 3 "players" that are on auto-follow for the pure purpose of harvesting Turbine Points. If you can give these points away in the form of a quest pass, the game will get less income as it did while being P2P and most of the active players being lifetime subscribers...
In one example: the new Winter Home area, you can potentially collect 30 TP's per character, and it doesn't take long to get most of them.
Those and many of the points you get by accidentally completing deeds could get you most of the TP's you need to get the next zone once you complete the Lone Lands. Probably quicker if they do a sale, which they often do. I don't suspect there'll be much grinding at all, should you complete the quest content.
I can't remember. Is Enedwaith free? If so, you really don't need Mirkwood.
Enedwaith is only free for VIPs. If your really set on playing the game for free it is probably a better idea to spend the TP you get on buying skirmishes instead of questpacks. While questpacks do earn you TP they seldom earn back what it took to buy them with just one char going through them and they are mostly only valid in a very narrow levelrange, if you buy a skirmish at level 30 though you can still use it to level even at level 60+.
True you wouldn't earn Virtues, then again you don't exactly need them unless your a raider. But if your a raider intended on being competitive at endgame without spending a dime ... virtues are going to be the least of your problems.
