I gave the expansion a try, and can say I played WOW while it was still a "world": from open beta to the release of Cataclysm.
But, it does not feel like a world to me any longer. The phasing has segmented the population too much, and the pop culture references grate on me. And, of course, I never liked the feeling of being railroaded by quests.
They have also made the zones much, much smaller and more crammed with artifical and arbitrary quest areas so that you pass from one to the other. You no longer get the feeling of living, breathing districts.
Wanting a game to take 12 months to get to raiding doesn't make someone mature and anyone who doesn't want to play that way some sort of child. Comments like these seem a little childish to be honest.
No because anyone who wants something NOW is a kid. Only a mature adult knows that you must work at something to achieve something. If your an adult and want to play a game that you can finish in a few days then play a console game. MMO's were designed to be played over a long period of time. Anyone who started with MUD's or even BBS games like BRE understands this.
Raiding should be for people that have experience. Understanding your class and others. Understanding the mechanics of the game. Understanding how to work with a large group of people. Unfortunetly a large population of wows community does not understand any of those things.
It sounds more like you're talking to a subordinate at a corporation than some people about a video game. You must work something to achieve something? Whatever happened to it being a video game? Aren't they supposed to be fun and laughter, not blood sweat and tears?
Sure taking that long to get things done was cool back then, but I don't know about you, as a young adult I no longer have the time to commit to something like that.
Raiding should be for everyone. This whole elitist approach to it is so played out. The people that have experience and this and that are capable of doing more of the raids faster and they are able to tackle hardmodes and tribute runs. Seems about right to me.
This whole misconception that everyone needs to be as good as me to be in my endgame is quite silly and self centered. I played with some awful people sometimes in WoW, but they were cool people so ultimately it didn't really matter that they were slower or dropped the ball from time to time.
There were plenty of hardcore elite guilds where people had experience and a complete understanding with this and that. From my experience, those guilds were more often than not the most immature and childish guilds you could possibly imagine. All you have is a bunch of teens with some misplaced god complex because they read on elitistjerks.com how to setup their character properly.
I found this to be my experience too. I'd rather fail 1000 times with GOOD PEOPLE than succeed with mega douches.
The only really good thing about this expansion is the levelling the new zones and the questing. I put to you that this expansion was not made for the players this one was made for grind and profit over and above what an enjoyable game should be about.
The new mass rvr zone tol barad is full of pve, so in order to rep up with a pvp faction you have to pve alot outside of the event, if you win the event you then have to pve again to gain extra rep. It is not even fun pve it is collect 10 of x, kill 15 of x, take out captain x. Wintergrasp quests were all wrapped up with the event it was smooth and flowed. Dont get me started on no flying.
The PvE content heroic wise completely makes the dungeon finder tool redundant if you PUG expect to wipe for a couple of hours, in the rarest of cases you may be lucky, arguements and finger pointing are the normal, blizzard have actually managed to turn players on themselves. Even if you manage to complete a couple of heroics which might take most of your day you cannot purchase your t11, ok sure what about pvp.
Rated BGs you gain a good reward for these if you have a highly organised pvp raid of players. If you happen to join on your own forget it what you gain for your efforts is pitiful. No matter what happened with this game if I was with no guild or online on my own I could rely on just queuing up for some fun and getting somewhere for my efforts.
Raids are not pugable anymore it requires a dance troop routine style execution in order to complete. This I am ok with let the raiders have their time their glory but for gods sake do not penalise me everywhere else.
This is my warning to you, I have had a lot of experience with many games including a good history with wow. This is not a pick up and play game anymore if you want to achieve anything you will need to dedicate your time and energy into a proper raiding guild over many hours.
Once you have hit cap, leave cause getting to cap is the only content worth doing. Try it for yourself if you like but I warned you. I am hoping rifts pvp will give me what Im looking for.
For me personally Cataclysm is wow's swan song. I may return at some point and for the while will focus my time on my own activities, perhaps just crafting. Unless things change my 3 accounts for me and my family will remain shut and a competitor can have my money, does blizzard care for a drop in the ocean I don't know but I refuse to continue paying and vote with my feet.
So you're not really done as the thread title states then? You should check out Rift, it has a lot to offer.
Funny thing for me is that hard 5 man dungeons with good loot is what I always wanted in WoW, but after the zerg fest that was WotLK I just really can't be bothered going back to WoW, especially now with Aion getting some nice updates and a number of other promising MMOs due to come out soon.
I'm there too. I was healing perfectly fine on my Priest but getting ignored because I can't be a shammy or a druid is bogus. I didn't even let people DIE and I was being kicked from the heroics. Lame.
If you can heal with a priest in heroics, then you're a better man than I am, gunga din. I've got good equipment and my priest can't get past the first or second boss in a heroic.

No actually. I'm trying to see if things can be optimized for you.
First off, I'd probably get rid of SoR since SoR no longer has that +spirit buff.
Might see if you can squeeze the 'Darkness' talent in there since that is a nice haste buff, 3%.
Not exactly sure why you took Tome of Light or Body and Soul actually.
Aren't they more pvp? Esp B&S.
Get Surge of Light. The instant, Free-mana Flash Heal (esp when healers are scrambling for mana) is way too good to pass up.
Not exactly familiar with gear but I prefer plusheal.com on that one.
i understand and agree with op, when i got few of my toons up to 85 that was it, enjhoyable new areas and changed world cant keep me happy more than this while endgame is same old, and routine style boss fights on raid is way too dull, there always should be many ways to proceed not always same same same tactic all over again same same grind for marks and points to get shiny pixelated thingy on you wich then give you joy? yea you have achievemt something but what? wasting your time.
pvp could be fun ifits based on players skills and not stats so much.

Are you going to expect Pepsi to change their flavor when you get tired of their soda?
Just to add my spice to this soup, what I think was the worst thing about this expansion was the fact arena PvP and PvP in general is still overly bursty in pretty much every single case. It might be it gets fixed at some point in the future after a content patch or a few, but I think until then I'm going to quit it just as I did in WOTLK, in which my problem with the game was, again, burst damage.
I suppose the "golden" era of TBC-style slow PvP (without the class imbalances and worthless specs that existed back then) will never come back, but I really dislike the kind of PvP where everyone's HP basically keeps jumping from 100 % to 10 % and it really doesn't matter if you are at, say, 70% or 40%.
About the new heroics which have been mentioned, I like them. At least I did like them when the expansion was released. Now, however, as I am fully geared, I simply rush heroics for Valor Points, heroics I've already done a hundred times during the first few months. Being geared and knowing all the heroic tactics that exist, it isn't the difficulty of the heroics that bothers me but the length. I don't think they should be made shorter, but what annoys me that I still have to grind those same, lenghty heroics for Valor Points. It's a silly system and I feel like farming some kind of mobs for an hour a day as a holy paladin would be pretty much just as fun as running these heroics for the thousandth time.
Well, I'll have to see if my friends will ask me to resub to the game or not, but I hope not because I, as I said, have been thinking of only resubbing in the next content patch. At the moment the game's PvP feels like a burst damage fest just like it did in WOTLK and overall gameplay is... boring.

Yes, Wicoa I agree with your thread, nice job. The interesting aspect of what Blizz seems to be attempting is rather fascinating and yet a bit of a folly, too. We started in 2004 with a really nice little game that was oh so very lucky to appear when it did. There really hasn't been any competition to speak of since 2005. "Vanilla" WoW was fun and yet challenging at end-game. End game was built around earning your way into raiding content. Most didn't make it. By the time my guild made it, BC appeared. We got through Onyxia, but never got to BWL or the original Nax. Ok, and that was that, I perservered and we set our sigts on getting to raiding content soon next x-pac. Well we did, and made it almost getting to Illidan before Wrath broke and left the content behind. Not gonna persue the timeline any further, but you get the gist of this.
Blizz has gone back and forth on this "hard-core" vs, "carebear" approach. I dare say we'll see sometime soon the nerfking again so that we may all experience the ONE thing that Blizz does take seriously, raid dungeons. Raiding is their bread and butter, nothing else really is all that important. Hell just look at crafting. Armor and weapons just don't get it done after the first few purples. You must raid to progress in WoW...PERIOD...nothing else...grind those heroics get your "numbers" up .. study Elitest Jerks..then move on to raiding schedules for oh..hell what about 18 months until the next x-pac comes out?
End-game is about raiding...that's about it folks...is it any wonder there are so many raiders that leave after finally completing their first tier set? watch what happens this spring on each of the older servers across the WoW universe. Many hard-cores will bust their collective butts to gain their tier gear then leave bored and mentally exhausted with it all. However, this time, there just might be some other games out there with an actual different type of end-game. Now, that would truly be a sight to see. raiders that do NOT return after 3, 6, or months./bows

did i say anyhtign that game is bad? all i was saying about the grind and tired of it and yes it maybe personal reason like to many others but thats a reason as any other, live with it. if you and many others can still enjoy it please do. nobody is shooting you for that. also if you think about your reply for a second you can guess my answer about your pepsi soda reference, when i get tired of pepsi i drink something else pretty fucking simple dude.
So this is where I stand, I like the expansion I think WoW is a very good game and the difficulty is really spot on, I have been in hardcore raiding guilds in vanilla, lead one through TBC and was pretty much pugging throught Wrath, what I realized now is that, I do not have the will do it again, I think the tunning is perfect for ppl who wish to raid, and it is in line with Vanilla and TBC.
But I just cant get it in me anymore to raid the same dungeon 4 times a week on a schedule, at this point in time I am looking for something else, I still do some pvp and level alts and raid whenever I have the will to, luckily I have owned my guild for a while and one of the perks is being able to move away and being there when needed without having to go anywhere else.
At this point in time I really hope some MMO can make the leveling experience in WoW transfer to end game, I dont have any magical formulas, but I have the feeling this is the way to go, have content as fun as leveling dynamic quest events, changing world events, that you can participate without being locked down with X ppl inside an instance.
I am still very puzzled at this 'i'm bored of WoW cause of XYZ'.
Last I checked, WoW's mechanics haven't changed for 6 years.
In fact, compared to vanilla WoW offers more options. The LFD system, Arena, Rated BG, Tol Borad.
All games after 6 years will feel boring so I completely understand that (heck I quit 5 months ago because me and RL Friends got bored and went to play some single player stuff.) but to act completely surprised that Cata is still WoW is hilarious.
Gdemami - Informing people about your thoughts and impressions is not a review, it's a blog.

I lol'ed at this part, rated bgs were meant for competitive PVP guilds as a larger scale arena style pvp. Trust me when you are in a pvp guild rated bgs are fucking awesome fun.
I've said this before on these forums but WoW pvp is the best in any mmo, if you are a COMPETITIVE gamer. Anyways I didn't really read anything else as at this point in my WoW career i'm only interested in the pvp aspects. I haven't lvled from lvl 1 to see the new quests, I haven't done a heroic or raided. Just pure fun competitive pvp which is what keeps me enjoying this game.
- As a side note world pvp in this game is still awesome if you want it. just go to any daily quest zone. There are always people there to gank/pvp etc whether they want to or not.
Yep, just cancelled my subscription after renewing for Cata....same old boring stuff. Was not as different as I expected.
I told myself that I would not buy another expansion unless they get off their lazy butts and add classes, NOT races!
This time, I will stick to that. There are so many other awesome games coming up (Rift, GW2) that will provide the enjoyment.
Yeah, a lot of people seem to be in this camp (myself included). I got a few things on the rep grind front that I'd like to do, then if blizz dont do something by say the end of march to spice the gameplay up a bit I'll be moving on.
They could do with adding a lot more rares to archaeology (maybe make it more profitable as well).
Rift seems to be getting some decent reports from the latest beta's, I'll still be holding out till a fair time after launch before purchasing (warhammer taught me that lesson).
GW2, this could be more my bag, to be fair the no sub's deal is a win-win scenario.
I am not done cause its a bad game, I think what it does, it does well, I just find myself looking at other stuff, every xpac makes it exciting for a while and I am pretty sure I will try the next one the same way, but then in essence it goes back to the same thing, grind dungeons, grind dailies, grind raids, and while the content its still awesome, I find myself with not so much time on my hands and a bit tired of the design after 5 years.
It is a good game and many ppl will play it, but I just need something else, the same way I love Assassin's Creed but if I played it day and night for a couple of years the fun would degrade.
My subscription ends in mid february but I'm pretty much done now. I liked leveling and got my main and alt to 85 pretty quickly. I ran several heroics but got discouraged with the long waits and heroic groups failing and quitting.
I'm not interested in raiding or sscheudling my life for the game and so that limits my options. i also play as a dps Warrior which is not exactly in demand anyway as the game is overflowing with them and other mele dps. I'm attached to my main class and don't really want to accomplish in game stuff on an alt.
All I ask these days is that I be able to log in and queue up fairly quickly for heroics and BG's. Since that's impossible these days I'll probably just wait for the next expac or major changes that allow me to queue quickly..
I quit also. I leveld my toon to 80 in WOTLK and did a few heroics and quit. This time I paid the sub fee, paid for a faction change (my guild decided to move to horde) and paid for the expansion. I spent two weeks leveling my main and alts to 85 and just got too bored. I miss my guildmates but I can;t see paying for a game that I hate playing anymore.
I guess this is one of the reasons people hate this game. I can;t even fully move on because everyone I game with hasn't. Oh well, I've been playing LOTRO by myself and the community for the most part has made it easy playing alone there.
I hoping SWTOR or some other game will be good enough to peel some of my guildies away from WoW.
Yeh it's about what I figured it would be. They tried to give a fake plastic carrot to the pvpers while at the same time making the game totally gear and raid centric. However if that were enough then EQ2 would be doing much much better right now.
If you wanted to do hard core raids then Final Fantasy online or LOTR are still superior options. All GC did was Gut the game of substance and thought, cookie cutter specs auto set for raid progression.

Going Carebear never works.
NEVER.
Yeah, that's why Final Fantasy and Lotro have milllions and millions of subscriptions.
I pity the lonely souls who can't sleep because of WOW's success rate.

Informing people about your thoughts and impressions is not a review, it's a blog.
