In his latest column about all things Guild Wars 2, MMORPG.com Community Manager Michael Bitton considers last week's tease from ArenaNet that the fifth profession will be announced in January. Mike has a strong opinion as to what that fifth class will be. See if you agree with his reasoning and then weigh in with your thoughts in the comments section.
So, what will that fifth profession be? That’s what we’ll be talking about this week. I strongly believe the fifth profession to join the Guild Wars 2 roster will be the return of the Mesmer for a number of reasons.

i hope its the mesmer...one of my fav. classes for PvP. if the mesmer gets some cool visual illusion/domination spells, ill be sold.
It has to be the mesmer, just for the fact that it is such a unique and its a guild wars trademark class, they must keep it! :] ..
Thats the only way ill be returning, loved my mesmer in GW :]

Get over it already.
Even the color of the drawing screams Mesmer. Glad to see it.
Steam: Neph
Fancy outfit: check. Arrogant attitude: check. Purple aura: check. Yeah, got to be a Mesmer, only the fan is new - but it does seem a suitable weapon (or it could be an offhand accessory like in GW). Can't wait for GW2.
This picture somehow reminds me of Gwen (maybe it's the hair?).
YES! WIN! This is going to be epic!
Edit:
Dammit, too fast once again. Hopeing tho, *cross fingers* xD
I hope the fan is a new weapon ... will bring some more distinction between mesmers and the other caster classes. Plus, its in her left hand, all main weapons went in your left hand if im correct.

Get over it already.
So let me get this straight.
This is just a speculation article here, even though the title of the article suggests an official announcement of FACT.
I guess that's ONE way to insure that people read your stuff.....masquerade it as something it's actually not.
No offense, OP, but I don't think you should be allowed to title something as FACT when it's not, regardless of what board it's posted on.

I hope it will be something like a dual-wielding gunner or something in that direction.
My love for dual guns... no matter the game ...goes so far that I even modded Fallout 3 with a
dual wield submachine or pistol, even though it CTD'ed allot... it was fun non the less. ( <-- I'm not a mod-dev at all -->)
So a quick burst firing dual gunner with med armor and medium to low range, add in some 'jump-over-head-while-shooting' skills... ( yeah, I know long word...) ... and we're off to a good start.
Greetings,
Serph.
ps. Hope a Dev sees this !! <( ' ' <)
EDIT:
The Title didnt say anything about a reveal or something like that...
True, on the fact that it's misleading.
It's simply titled "The Fifth Profession" it doesn't say its an announcement, it's categorized as a column and the intro tease/blurb makes mention that it is speculative in nature.
This article is another example of all we've been getting this last few months - thought and conjecture but no real information. I sure wish they had a more sufficient amount of release material even if it was not as epic as a class release. Maybe a couple skills, or new weapons or something to that effect. I just keep feeling deflated everytime I read another empty article.
EDIT: I will be thoroughly ecstatic if it is the mesmer revealed in January!
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
If you look at the picture on the site of the profession group, it looks like the one on the right of the warrior is next, it's getting defined.
But it's rather hard to tell still. And it doesn't have the look of the artwork of the mesmer picture they made that is in this thread. Unless of course the picture will "move".
It almost looks more...leafy. Like a nature built class or something, which would fit in with the Silvari right? (or however it's spelt)
Great info but i still hope for the Assassin/Ninja/Rogue/Thief proffesion xD
I hope That will be a dual sword/dagger/pistol wielding class that would be awesome
and without shadow stepping but movement enchancers and the abillity to hit higher when hitting the back of a monster/person, yes that would be awesome
I personally feel I can't decide which class I want to be revealed first (assassin-like class or mesmer-like class).
odds are assassin type class would have some type of stealth (or shadow steps), use pistols and daggers, but I don't know what it would have other than that.
with mesmers, all I know is they have illusions (how they will work that is beyond me, but I am sure it will rock)
I do agree that mesmer is the more likely release, but I don't really know why I think that. Maybe I want to play it more.
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
Your theory is pretty much in line with the majoritys.
Having said that: I agree, next month will see the Mesmer being announced.
even though I love to see the mesmer already.. More then likely a new or hybrid class will be announced to keep the public interested..
Personally I'd love my own Idea of the dual-pistol class-thingy (?) ..(( See few posts back ))
But if it does turn out to be the mesmer also nice to get the illusion skills back :P
In terms of the general public, the mesmer is pretty new. Outside of GW1, mesmer isn't even a real word.
They should combine the assassin and mesmer. Hexes, illusion, stealth, somewhat like an upper class spy or secret agent. Maybe not. But that fan could be an assassin weapon. Its probably the mesmer though, since thats the most obvious profession left.
I just really really hope they have some sort of hand to hand class, that fights with their barehands. I hate being a warrior and a rouge type, but like monk type classes (no, not healing monks punching kung fu monks)
Mesmer is something unique, it should stay.
Ugh, I wanna say...but I won't! I'm going to avoid spoilers. In a way that provides info. Without spoiling. Sorta.
If you love the idea of Mesmers, read the second book :O S'all I'm gonna say.

LOL, yeah it's pretty obvious. The only thing that makes me hesitate about saying the next profession reveal will be mesmer is that there are two adventurers left to be revealed (although it's not out of the realm of possibility that the mesmer will be an adventurer profession).
Oh you guys tease. Now I must read the novel. :P
YOU MUST! It's better than the first, though I enjoyed the first one too. And...stuff x-x wanna talk about it, but I won't. Alternatively if you're that curious and don't wanna read you can just check the gw2guru forums since everyone's like, spoiler heaven there.
@arenasb, I would LOVE for Mesmers to be an Adventurer profession. One of their outfits in the original, the one with the pants and corset, made me think they should have kept the fencing weapon from the original concept. Only thing better than a mesmer chick with a fan and an elegant dress would be a fencer that can both take it and give it. I'd like both options if possible though ;3

Dang! I thought they'd done a reveal. Wah! Want info! /whiny brat off
Just have to wait 1 - 5 more weeks for the reveal.
January 4.....
or 5...
This is not a game.
