Im reading through the threads here and it sounds bleak. :I as in they "had" a great game, now its just user created farms. Is this true? I don't mind blowing 10 bucks for a month of CoH. I wouldn't mind spending the time if I could advance without farming lame easy missions.
I have played a lot of the DCUO beta and i hadnt taken the time before playing DCUO to try champions online or city of heroes.
I fell in love with DCUO immediately and it only kept getting better. So it made me much more curious about CoH and CO and i read quite a bit of feedback on them and watched the comparisons of those to DCUO.
It seemed to me that most people said DCUO was crap compared to these other 2 games. Of course their major argument was these 2 other games have more customization, they sure do! They have tons more customization for now.
However past customization i honestly cant believe people in their right minds can think CoH or CO are a better game than DCUO. The second i logged in and started playing DCUO i felt like i had real super powers, the ones i built up on.
In both CoH and DCUO i felt like i was playing WoW just with a super hero theme.
I dont mean it to insult either game, i just couldnt believe how much hype they both had over DCUO when in my opinion both those game suck ass compared to it.
Anyways 10 bucks is a super deal.

I think the game can be great fun for a new player. The first time I played it was around when it first came out, sometime in 2005? If you are into the whole heroes and villains theme at all then I would recommend you try it. I would say that it is definitely worth 10$, yeah its been around a while but it still can be great fun.
As far as the endgame goes, I haven't played in a while but, from my experiences the game is relatively boring at endgame. Due to how much you can mix and match different power sets and customize your character it offers excellent replayability if you don't mind rolling alts.
On another note, you might want to wait until Champions Online goes free to play(sometime in the beginning of next year), they both play almost the same and Champions has even more customization options.

In a thread about whether or not CoH is a good game for $10, you sure talk a lot about DCUO...
In anycase, I played CoH for a couple years and thought it was a fun game. I had more fun playing that than I did with any other MMO so far.

You must be reading threads at least a year old. They added user-made missions, they were unbalanced and people farmed them. Then they balanced the system, and the farms stopped. It was a bad period, but it's completely irrelevant to the game as it stands now. There's more variety of missions than ever before and minimal reason to even favor one category over another let alone repeatedly farm a single mission.
If cryptic made it its best to avoid it - Champions Online.
uhhh... yeh... cryptic does suck now.., but there's a reason CO was so similar to CoX.
Also the posts where people reply to thread just to say, "LOL I DUNNO!" are kind of redundant. They made me laugh though, thanks.
CoX is worth 10 bucks for a month. It's always been more of a social game, lacking any real endgame, but some of the story lines are pretty good, and there is a mountain of content, so you never really run out of things to see. I know a married couple who, as far as mmo's go, have only ever played CoX, and still play every other day. I subbed to it 4 or 5 times over the years to check out the new content, like when City of Villains released. I was never sorry I did, but still I got bored after a month.
You have to try out yourself. As for comparing DCUO to CoX, I personally wouldn't do it as one is built for the console in mind while the other is purely for PC.
Let us know how you get on I myself am thinking of returning.
Update: I rolled a Mastermind, stalker, scrapper, some beastly tank thing and some other odd creations I've since deleted.
I liked my demon summoning, fire breathing, whip tossing mastermind the best, also I play as a Villian. The community is alive, active and there is a big RP movement there. I don't RP, yet its fun to be in groups that people do, not the typical "ok, rush in, kill all, get phat lootz" approach as I've been in other games.
I'm active and on Virtue and it was worth the 10 bucks IMO. Going Rogue has brought some people back because its fun to play. Yet...I know that I will be there for Rift launch in march, don't know if I've got the time for both. But I will be here until then trying to get my MM through as much fun content as I can.

100% agree. And this is coming from someone who really enjoyed playing CoH. I'd just order DCU and be done with it. DCU was the first mmo combat where I felt like a super hero. You actually feel like you are beating the enemy's ass.

dont know m8 but you can always check the videos on you tube to see wot u think
I played it and enjoyed it. If your not a super hero fan, I would skip it.

Not a bad game, wish I tried it sooner.
