The trees don't do it, they seem (at least at the lower levels, maybe it would be different at higher, no idea) to make a big difference between "builds", very small point differences, small percentage differences. I don't know it just isn't interesting me. The graphics are very nice! I mostly like the appearance of it. Wouldn't mind more options to distinguish characters visually at character creation. Maybe after it's been out a few months to a year it'll mature, and change enough I'd become interested.
Actually... if I may be so bold as to suggest why you may not being getting "grabbed" by Rift...
The answer is in your Signature/Poster ID...
It's also the reason why I am not interested in Rift either.

I'm playing Rift and I am planning on buying the CE box and making Telara my new home at least until TERA launches.
The game world looks nice and is not instanced.
The armor looks like armor and not painted on latex.
The dev team are doing a great job ironing out many things fast. I'm hoping they find out quickly what's causing problems for some hardware configs.
It's fun how I can mess around with the soul tree for the calling I choose.
Familiarity of many things in-game.
I like how my Mathosian male/female and dwarf female look.
All in all, solid is what I would call it so I will be buying. The way the dev team communicates with its community is what seals the deal for me. It's why I'm not playing Aion: The tower of RNG any longer.
If they do a Open Beta/Preview Event, then I might consider buying it. Unfortunately after being burned by too many MMOs, one has to pick and choose carefully.
It's funny how 15 bux a month is considered too pricey.
I spend 20 bux on a single meal at decent restaurant.
I spend 40-50 bux going out on friday or sat.
6 dollar min now a days for a movie.
7 bux for a book.
People spend tons on alcohol and cig's. I bet at least 30% smoke weed.
Of all those things, and granted it depends on just how much you play, 15 bux a month for Rift is no where as expensive per hour as any of those other forms of entertainment.
This argument gets thrown around a lot, I will grant you that 15 dollars isn't really that much, but it comes down to, do i even want to fork over any money for the game. Whether a game is worth 15 dollars or not doesn't really even play into it for me.
It depends do i want to spend money to play this game or is it just going to sit. For me, this just simply isn't a game i see myself playing a lot, it's worth every penny of the 15 dollars but i won't be subbing because it's just not my style. If it was F2P i probably still wouldn't play long. note: that doesn't mean it's bad, just not something i'm interested in doing.
In most cases 15 dollars isn't the issue, it's just additional blockade of weather you'll play the game or not if your on the fence. If you really don't want to play it or really do, the 15 dollars won't change your opinion
It's a cheap form of entertainment, it still has to (to that person) warrant paying money for something and that means wanting to play it.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

I agree completely. That wasn't directed to the people that have no desire to play it. The 50 dollars that you're going to spend initially should be enough to discourage those that aren't very interested in it from buying it. It's directed to the people that have a desire to play and continue playing yet still feel that 15 a month is too pricey. I'm simply throwing it out there that compared to other forms of entertainment, aside from the initial cost, you'd have to play the game a minimum of 3 hours a month to be cheaper than most other forms of common entertainment.
For me the issue is wehter $50 for the regular or $80(?) is worth potentially 30 days play. Or even 60 days. If the game holds me for 2 months time then it (regular version) is NOT 15 a month but rather 32.50 a month. Still not a lot of money I admit but can it hold my attention. If not, it isnt worth the $.
I was in a guild someone created (to play with the feature and not to build a real guild) in the Beta event. the overall concern seemed to be the problem with WAR. Rifts = PQs. Very hard to do solo for the bigger ones and within a month or two the lower levels will be ghostlands. The occasional alt-aholic doing a re-roll. A linear quest string is more or less forced to level and boredom sets in.
I do think the game will do well just not sure if it will be more than another WAR as far as the shortcomings are concerned. I am still debating buying it

Agreed. The retail box price and the subscription price of MMOs is *VERY* reasonable as compared to other forms of entertainment.
The problem isn't the price, the problem for many is finding a MMO they would really want to spend that much time in. Quick and easy gameplay only goes so far. Linear worlds that are easy to navigate lose their luster far too quickly.

I voted yes because I have been following this game for quite some time and have enjoyed myself thoroughly during the beta. I have just as much fun looking and watching the rifts as I do participating in the events. Also one of the few games where I actually take the time to look at the environment and think "Oh, well that looks awesome." or "I want to go over there!". Questing does get repetitive but they follow the story well and they are delivered well. I was concerned about the levelling curve as my cleric hit level 11 in only a day and for a level cap of 50, I was a bit worried that I was going to get there too fast. It did start to slow down around 18 and allow for some time to spend exploring, doing dungeons, and completing rift events.
There still isn't quite enough group content for me (I am most likely a minority in that respect), the armor between factions, Guardian and Defiant, look a bit to similar but that may change with higher levels, and repetitive skills in souls do seem to prove a bit pointless.
In my opinion, the negatives are easily fixable and are immensely outweighed by the positives. With how quick Trion has been responding to the players' feedback and suggestions I imagine these will be corrected or improved upon. It's safe to say Trion has my money. At least until they ruin the game lore or sell levels (damn you EA/BioWare Mythic).
I voted yes as I have been in Beta 2 and 3 now and I really am having fun. The dungeons on both sides are challenging and they scale to your groups avg level as do the drops. The rifts are a nice change of pace from questing. The graphics are very nice. My only gripe is basically the "ride the rails" linear questing model which I really hate, but its not the only way of leveling so it doesn't make me bored and want to stop playing. I really love the soul(class) system so far ,it is to me the best part of the game! Lots of choices in that field and they upped the points to a max of 66 now (4 every 3 levels) so you can actually play hybrids! What will keep me paying the sub fees really is what the end game content is like, we have yet to see what raids will be like and battlefronts for PvP so that in and of itself keeps me very intrigued on this game. I have seen alot of flamers on the boards across the net calling it "WoWhammer" which is kinda true however I hated the cartoonish graphics of WoW and this game takes the basic gameplay of both War and WoW updates the graphics and somehow made it more fun IMO. Is this game perfect, Not at all but it definitely has some nice features and time will tell if it can hold a sub base for long periods of time. I would prefer a sandbox type game but none of the games coming out look like that style so RIFT gets my cash for the time being. Holding out hope that SOE doesn't totally F up EQNext like they did EQ2 then and only then I will have found a home once again for my MMO adventures!
Game felt fun at first but when you take a look around and play for a little bit it becomes stale and repetative, a lot of things felt "copy and paste" from other games, usually they get tweaked a bit if it was used in another game but not here.
No, it's not good enough. It's not an AAA title, it's a B title.
Good F2P game yup, P2P? fuck no, way too expensive.
I think they can do well with a subscription, i dont know if it will actually work out but it can be good.
Im definitely not going to play it, it feels way too much like a WoW sequel to me (not clone, sequel). And its like a sequel that only added an extra 30 minutes to the movie.
It is a beautiful game tho, and the rifts themselves are amazing in my opinion. I went out of my way to chase the rifts down thats how fun they are.
It would definitely be in my top played if it was free to play.
Are'nt you contradicting yourself there? You say it will to well, although you probably have no idea about the demographic research needed to determine this fact, then later go on to say you wont play unless it was F2P? Also how can it be a sequal? There are no Night Elves, Tauren, Worgen, etc. Its a Clone, plain and simple, I'd give you the sequal part if it resembled directly to WoW, it doesnt though. Art is differnt, Progression is different, and the company making it is different. Unless of course you think since it was made in northern California, and Blizzard is in Southern California and that makes it seem like a sequel, if thats the case then there are much more important things you should be thinking about. Will I play it? No, not because its P2P or F2P, because it doesnt offer the level of PvP combat/reward I am personally looking for.
For those curious about the level of PvP combat/reward that I am looking for is akin to such titles at Ultima Online, Shadowbane(now extinct), Asherons Call (Darktide), Mortal Online, Darkfall Online, and even though I dont like space MMO's EVE aswell.
On a closing note the Rift mechainic is not all that impressive. The RIfts do not open at random spots, these spots are static. If they truly were a random occurence then we would have something IMO to write home about.
Are you freakin for real dude?
You made up an entire argument over me saying that it CAN be good, not that it would be. Please dont quote me if youre not actually gonna adress what i said.
I also said it FEELS like a sequel. You might do better with your responses if you actually read what youre replying to.

First of all there was no flame and it was very honest opinion. Rift is not Tera and as far as different from norm, i don't want to go offtopic here but TERA is not all that different, it is just merely refining on the features that already exists in other MMORPGS.
Tera is not that dfferent? have you played it? PVE and PVP is totally different from any other MMORPG, wanna know why? cos during farming or raids, you can't press F1 and F2 with one hand, looking at your favorite Tv show while eating dinner witth the other hand... cos you have to move all the time and actually TARGET.
Played Tera in Focus group, and even though I don't like the castanics and hate the fact that there are so few classes and no sieges, I would still pay for it...
On the other hand, after actually playing Rift... all that "waw cool" magic that the promo videos inspired me, dissapeared while farming and watching the boring and unpolisherd moves of my char, that remind me so much of other F2P games that bring the same level of fun, but with no money spent.
I will not but it, not in the least. I played the beta events all 3 of them. I have no interest in buying a sub, it would have to be free to play for me to even think about it.
It is for all purposes a war hammer clone. There is so much war hammer like to this game its not even funny including the attack animation bug that still exist in war hammer. It looks like it took 50% from war hammer, some stuff from wow, some stuff from eq2 and meshed them all together. I totally despise the UI, this almost looks as if they were aiming at consoles.
Other than the tree makeup it is totally, and I meant totally uninspired.
Im sorry but I will pass. I was expecting a lot more, too bad it did not live up to its hype.
Trion has put together a nice Collector's Edition for Rift and that's what I'll be getting. I'm enjoying the Necromancer class and the whole rift / public quest system where I can participate in a group without being in a "group". I've always enjoyed helping others in my MMO travels, but I hate being shackled to them in a group. It feels too much like a bad marriage.
Besides, I need to get the taste of Cataclysm out of my mouth.
"Soloists and those who prefer small groups should never have to feel like they''re the ones getting the proverbial table scraps, as it were." - Scott Hartsman, Senior Producer, Everquest II "People love groups. Its a fallacy that people want to play solo all the time." - Scott Hartsman, Executive Producer, Rift
shame that most people on mmorpg.com who aren't interested in rift and not played in the beta would vote no anyways, can never get an honest poll on this forum.
M
Well....whatever. Then there are people like me. I played in all 3 of the beta events thus far and voted no. Just because YOU think a game is great, doesn't mean everyone will agree with you. Rift has some redeeming qualities, but in MY opinion, not ENOUGH.
You're assuming since there aren't as many "yes" votes as YOU thought there should be that the "no" votes must be some how false.
Nope. not buying this. Feels like i've allready played it a few times and this is actually worse in some respects. Slow dull combat, extremely slow character movement, feels like i'm permanently snared. Sound effects are terrible. Quests that i saw were boring. The world seems small and overly contained.
No thanks. There's tons of games out there exactly like this one that have done it better and have more content. I might check it out again in a year or two if it's still around and i'm really bored.
Since you didn't put, "Not Sure Yet" as an option, I didn't vote. There are some things I like about the game and some things that I don't. It will depend on whether they address my concerns and feedback by the end of beta. If they don't, I see no reason to drop what I'm playing now for something that is just as mediocre. Especially with the constant texture flashing when in towns or in big raids and being forced to use older drivers because the two newer versions won't work with the game, but the drivers that do sort of work, cause problems with my other games.

Nope. The fighting felt like I was playing Allods, very clunky. Besides that, nothing exciting here to see for me anyways. Rather uninspiring.
Didn't get invited to beta, but after initially not being interested in this at all, my interest has now grown.
I'll probably buy and sub unless I see something terrible or am otherwise distracted at release.

Yeh...I'm buying.
It seems to be a solid game, not expecting anything earth shattering, been in all three betas, and I buy pretty much every new MMORPG.
I'll play for at least 2 months and then we'll see.
I'm waiting for TERA.
