If I was releasing a game in today’s market, I would want it to drop a few months after swtor, or later.
We all know that swtro is going to sell a ton of copies and hopefully the hype will settle down and the population will self level after a couple of months.( although I have no expertise on this subject)
There are not going to be any betas that comparable to what most games do. That was already stated, so the people mentioning they needs months for betas, that theory is already out of the window. Betas were stated to work similarly to Guild Wars' original betas, which were small events for people to test the game out, that was it. Further, it was mentioned that these betas were going to happen around the time the game is set to launch, rather than ahead of time. I don't know their reason for this, they didn't say, just that the public betas would be happening closer to release. You can read about this right on the GW2's FAQ page:
"
When will there be a beta?
Although we publicly beta-tested the original Guild Wars® while it was still in early development, with Guild Wars 2 we will commence beta testing closer to the game's release. Guild Wars 2 is a very large and ambitious game, and Guild Wars players rightfully have very high expectations. We want players to be absolutely blown away by the game the first time they experience it."
There are some developer interviews that go into more detail about it, but nothing really concrete. So we can probably take those several month-long betas games like Rift and DCUO have been giving out, right off the table. That's not how it'll work, which shortens the timeline a bit.
2012 probably Q2. Everything you quoted just says that the game isn't finished yet. When they finish the game, they'll Beta it. They said they weren't going to test the game out unfinished like they did Guild Wars. They say nothing about this being an unusual Beta test that you've never seen before. Nor do they ever hint that their Beta process will be different from any other game. They haven't given much information other than what you see in the Manifesto. Which everyone knows isn't gameplay, it's concept. But hey they did it with Aion Visions, why not do it with GW2 too.
Yea I'm pretty sure the people that played it at Gamescom and PAX and NYCC weren't playing the real game, just concept... This game ain't developed by NC you know.
It's daunting to think that they will have to balance and polish so many dynamic events, so many story branches, ambitious pvp and whole new modes of play such as underwater combat. The demo does a good job of making the project appear well on it's way to completion, but you can't put too much emphasis on that small section revealed.
However, based on their iterative development process, the B2P design model, some of the original designers moving on in July last year, the estimated cost of the game to date and the lag in information from content status being sub-reveal quality etc and the timing of all these things as well as some inevitable slippage, I'm still guessing 4 Nov 2011. Ideally release would be Sept/Oct before the usual annual releases of other big box games eg FIFA, Civ5 this year with beta around May/July (shorter beta). Any later is very possible but this would be imo a sweet spot to release especially with the timeframe for technical/hardware changes continually on the march. I'm hedging that the b2p denser content model will offset the added time for crazy polish needed and so release will not slip overly, hence Nov. Probably talking out of my a**...
Judging by the information from the "When it's ready" blog that was previously released by Eric Flannum, I wouldn't expect guild wars 2 to come out in 2011. I quote, "...the coming year is going to bring with it a lot of cool information and maybe a few surprises as well." "cool information to me doesn't sound like a game release. In my opinion, we'll be lucky to see a beta.

What about "a few suprises as well"... doesn't that sound like a game release date to you? Seriously, that isn't much to go off of, I wouldn't base any decision of a release date on that.
There is no way they would of released this much info if the game was'nt comeing out THIS year. I was hopeing for the 6th bday of GW1 but seems unllikely now. But I'm SURE IT WILL BE this year.

"Unless i'm unaware, beta testing hasn't really started(GW2). Whereas ToR has already been doing it for 6 months."
SWTOR has not been beta testing anything yet! They have done some alpha testing where they limit the scope and area of the test and that is about it. Beta is where the game is relatively open to play up to certain levels. They have not done any closed beta testing yet, by that definition.
SWTOR could also be a 2012 release along with GW2. All these spring rumors are just that rumors with no actual facts behind them. Bioware is much like Blizzard, the will release a game when they are ready too, not at behest of the marketing department.
The thing most games have a problem with is the engine itself and it has been ready for 1 1/2 years now. Compare that to many games that have crappy performance even after the game have launched.
Now it is about balancing stuff and probably adding more event chains. The reason we havn't heard about the last 4 classes is of course due to balance issues, ANETs policy is to not presents what isn't working right yet (and it doesn't hurt to save some hype until you are closer to launch.
While I do have hopes that the game will release this spring it is far too optimistic to bet on. September to November is the time I think that it is most likely, in good time for the X-mas shoppers but with enough time to get everything working as it should.

That is a possibility, Bioware have a better contract than Mythic and even they were allowed to put back the release date of WAR 6 months (thank gods for that, it should really have gotten another push back).
You can never be sure when a MMO releases. In many cases you can't even be sure if it releases (Stargate worlds anyone?) but in the case of TOR and GW2 I think we can be relatively sure they will.
But anywhere in 2012 is sure a possibility and even 2013 could happen.
I however feel that the chances are that TOR releases late spring and GW autumn 2011. But anything can happen here.
Um I'm guessing/hoping Sping of 2011... the demo itself was really impressive regardless of how far along they are.... hopefully it's sooner rather than later..
I'm guessing Nov 2011 Give or take a couple months either way. We've already seen it as a functional demo in the hands of players moreso than SWTOR. I think SWTOR has the greatest risk of being pushed back from a spring 2011 release.

The SW:TOR NDA allows me to say that I have been in beta, beyond that I can't say anything else, so yes the game has been in beta.
November 2011. Ncsoft wants to release Blade and Soul first. GW2 is second in the line up.
Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

I really hope GW2 will be released this year, and yes, november is a good date to do it. For now I need to play another game until GW2 is released.

This is not a game.
Personaly i dont care.
I have to find another game to play till gw2.
In the end it may not worth the wait and swtor may be better than gw2.But only time will tell
I keep asking myself what the hell to play until GW2 comes out. Go back to Aion? Guild Wars for the Hall of Monuments? What about Rift?
I'll say late November 2011 for GW2 release.
Current game: Pillars of Eternity
Played: UO, AC, Eve, Fallen Earth, Aion, GW, GW2
Tried: WOW, Rift, SWTOR, ESO
Future: Camelot Unchained? Crowfall? Bless?
Would guess late 2012 atleast Q3, but I am getting the impression now that SW TOR will also be released about that time.

If thats true, than 50% of the MMO crowd retires xD.
Ontopic: Q1 2012 100% ... unless they surprise us... but hey ..... surprises don't happen anymore
Yeah I'd bet over rather than under.
I'd say Q1 2012,somewhere within the 1st 3 months.

This is not a game.
No later than September is my vote.
Past stated facts:
Fact one: The game will be released after the 3rd novel. First book came out during the 3rd week of August 2010, second book
I got it on December 21st. 3rd book isn't announced yet but we can speculate on end of April or mid May.
Fact two. Yes there will be a beta however it'll last no more than 3 months according to Docciu.
In January we'll see the 5th profession surfacing, we have time to see all professions being released before Gamescon 2011.
So 3rd book end of April, mid May annoucement of beta game ready to release right after Gamescon or Pax.
Final estimate B4 mid September 2011.
There is no way they would of released this much info if the game was'nt comeing out THIS year. I was hopeing for the 6th bday of GW1 but seems unllikely now. But I'm SURE IT WILL BE this year.
