How is it?

I was thinking about downloading the trial and give it a go, however I was interested in finding out what the healer classes are and what their concepts are?  I also heard this was a PvP game primarily and thats cool as long as the PvP is worth it.

So if anyone thats pretty familiar with the game can offer some insight it would be most appreciated.  Or if someone has other interesting or useful information to disclose that would also be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

It's a little fun in the first tier/aka the first few lvl for ya if you haven't played the game. But just a little.

It's like a game you can play when your main-game is down for server maintenance or what have you...  But not more though! :(

After playing like all the major MMORPGs, I still find WAR to be the most fun, mainly because it's based around PVP and the fights are different every time.  It has flaws, but I have yet to find something more fun to occupy my MMO time long-term.

Yes, PVP in the game is rewarding because that's where you get the majority of your gear, you can level just by pvping if you want, and it's the only way to get realm renown, which is like a secondary xp system that allows you to gain gear and ability points past max level.  It's also fun because it's based on group PVP, with many abilities designed to help teammates and you can do things like tank while PVPing.

    Healing classes are:

    Order:

    Runepriest: pretty much main healing

Archmage: ok healing and ok ranged dps, can be better based on how you spec

Warrior Priest: supposed to be melee healers that get healing ability by meleeing on the frontlines, best at group healing

    Destro:

    Zealot: like runepriest

    Shaman: like archmage

Disciple of Kaine: like Warrior Priest

    ***

If you're going to try it in NA, make sure to roll on Badlands server.  It's the only one of the 4 that has a good population.

    Mythic Officials and Feedback

posted from some veteran WAR player there:

I have been playing MMORPGs since 1996. I was a WAR beta tester in the summer of 2008 and I have played WAR ever since. I have 4 Destro toons at level 40, and several other sub-40s in Tiers1-4. I have decided that my time in WAR is coming to an end.

There are a few reasons that have nothing to do with the game itself. Sometimes, a game is simply played out. However, WAR has been, in mind mind, a disappointment. I sat down and tried to think of the reasons I felt that way, and came up with the following 8. They are in no particular order, although #8 is more of an overall reason that connects the other 7.

    1. Hacking

Problem: There are simply too many hackers/exploiters/cheaters in the game. We all know about the third party programs and game exploits. Half the “bosses” in the PvE areas are defeated regularly with bugs.

Solution Was: Mythic should have put more resources into code that detects third party programs, and personnel to monitor players and the development of third party programs. Mythic should have been tougher on enforcement of the rules. Mythic should have fixed the bugs that allowed exploits.

    2. Overpowered classes/lack of balance

Problem: I can only speak from a Destro perspective here. Witch Hunters can pop out of invisibility, stunlock you and get you to 1/4th to 1/3rd life before you can even act. With their incredible survivability, healing and dps, Warrior Priests are the single most overpowered class I have ever encountered in an MMORPG. Just two examples of ridiculously overpowered classes. I am sure there are more, and I am sure that Order players feel the same about some Destro classes.

Solution Was: Mythic should have toned down some of these classes and should have just removed invisibility from the game altogether, as was originally promised when the game was designed. Another good idea would have simply been to mirror the classes.

    3. Casuals can’t compete with hardcore

Problem: When the game was young, the separation of the Tiers made sure that players could compete with each other, more or less. As the game advanced, and Mythic added new gear and abilities to the game to keep players interested, the power difference between players became larger and larger. Today, the difference between a brand new Level 40, RR40 and a Level 40, RR80 is incredible. Yet, those two players have no choice but to compete against each other. For the RR40, fights are nearly impossible and frustrating. For the RR80, fights are easy and boring. Now that we will have players at RR90 and 100 running around in super suits, this problem is even worse.

Solution Was: Mythic should have created an entirely new Tier, with separate Scenarios, to divide players at RR0-60 and RR61+. Cross-realm scenarios should have been implemented for RR61+ scenarios.

    4. Time to kill is way too short

Problem: As the game has advanced, player weapons and other dps-enhancing gear and abilities became more and more powerful. Defensive gear and abilities did not keep up. If two players meet randomly in the world, the fight will last about 5 seconds. This is simply not fun for anyone.

Solution Was: Defensive gear and abilities should have kept up with offensive gear and abilities. Top end gear should have been toned down.

    5. Dev/Player Communication is poor

Problem: The game developers simply do not communicate with players. Look at the boards. How many developer posts do you see on the class boards? The RvR boards? Look at the home page. For the ENTIRE YEAR 2010, there are a total of 17 news posts. The last one was on September 1, 2010.

Solution: EA Mythic should have hired sufficient personnel to act as player liaisons, and kept the community up to date and excited about the game and its development.

    6. The “Bughammer” reputation is well earned

Problem: Since I began online gaming in 1996, I have never been in an MMORPG whose programmers so consistently broke introduced bugs into their own game with every update, and who so consistently failed to correct well-known bugs.

Solution: EA Mythic should have hired better programmers, and/or more of them.

    7. Lack of major expansions

Problem: WAR has had only one “real” expansion since being introduced – the Land of the Dead. The recent “expansion” was a joke, and contains very little new content. WAR could have been revived and refreshed with a major new expansion in 2010, and missed the boat. The recent “expansion” is extremely thin on content and was a major disappointment to me. It is the straw that broke this camel’s back.

Solution: A major paid expansion that introduced Tier 5 RvR and PvE zones, RR81-100, 1-2 major PvE dungeons, parallel crafting enhancements.

    8. EA is not committed to the WAR

Problem: Echoing some of the themes above, it has become clear to me that EA Mythic is not dedicated to the long-term success of WAR. It has made the conscious decision not to put significant resources into the game.

Solution: Everything above should have been done, and none of it was.

Still, if you're thinking about the trial, it's still free to do so why not?

    But ask yourself first:

    Am I a casual or am I a hardcore?

AMEN, the #8 reason is so true, well atleast looking at the last 'xpack'. Too bad because I too belive that solid xpac could have changed things as WAR has that something in it, dunno what, but its fun to play... well for a month.

WAR isnt bad if you can understand there is only a skeleton crew working on this title now so you cannot expect a lot of content or bug fixes anytime soon like big teams. The game was fun for a very  long time if you didnt mind the character imbalences and bugs popping up. With that being said the only advice I can say about new players is , make it top priority before you hit tier 4 to get yourself in a guild that runs premades and runs together with vent etc. Otherwise once you hit 40/40 your going to be cannon fodder for high renoun rank players especially being in pugs all the time , unless of course you dont mind zerging it up until you hit about 65. If you are social and enjoy guilds then you will like war if you can find a good one recruiting if not , it might be a little hard to start playing with already renoun rank 100's starting to come in.

I'm also doing a trial account at the moment and it's kind of fun. Healers are the easiest to level as they have incredible survivability and still do decent DPS (as do tanks) so they easily take on multiple opponents or elite mobs ("champions"). Next to that you get a lot of RP ("PvP points") in PvP by healing so even if you're outnumbered and your team doesn't get a lot of kills you still earn RR ("PvP ranks") pretty easily. I have an Arch Mage and Disciple of Khaine at lvl 10/RR10 and it's quite nice. So I'd give it a go.

    * As new player you don't have access to the auction house and you can't send mails so if you want to upgrade your gear with talismans (which work like runes, enchantments) you either have to get help from in-game friends (they can send you items but not trade with you) or pick up some professions yourself. Same for potions.

    * That said, WAR has a number of very nice features but end-game is very limited. There's only PvP, more PvP and even more PvP. Next to that, fights are often very unbalanced as PvP rank 40 players have to compete with PvP rank 100 players, which is everything but a nice challenge. Basically it comes down to grinding PvP for better gear, with not a lot of (PvE/crafting/RP) diversion alternatives if you want to take a break.

    * It's really too bad as the game looks decent, the armour sets look way above par for a MMO, Public Quests are very nice and of course warhammer has great lore and it could be a really great game if they added more diverse content and split the PvP into more tiers. But EA decided to let the game die a slow death, which is really a shame. If you look at the official forums and see how little posts there are the last 24h and what they are about you'll understand that WAR is on a decline.

Unfortunately true, only really 2 fully active servers now it seems. But I am resubbing, and quite a few have recently returned as Rift seemed to remind a lot of people about WAR so a few have been trickling back after the beta's(including me, resubbing when my vet trial expires in a few days). It's still got plenty going on on the 2 most populated servers(badlands, and Volkmar), so hop in and join before it's to late. I see the game dieing by the end of next year.
