There is a certain amount of time a game can stay afloat and do well.
WoW has clearly outgrown that time.
WoW has had to much expansion and lost it's roots.
The very first PvP arenas and competative instances were all that should have been made.
Expanding and expanding again makes the game lose it's original feel.
There may be 5000 people on your server but you couldn't find them in half the instances and zones.
The game is old as dirt and the subscriber base is itching for something polished and new.
Rift on the other hand is similar in size to the original WoW before all the bloating and expansions.
Rift will give the people that like grouping and hanging out with others a chance to do this again. There will be much more contest in contested territory like WoW used to have.
In the old WoW you didn't need to go to an arena to find good PvP. There were many locations where pvp was happening all day long with massive and fun battles. Those days are gone from WoW......but with Rift we start fresh.
This is the experiance I think alot of people will have with Rift and the reason why it will do very well. Rift really has that young WoW flavor and excitement going for it.

I want that sexy lady called Rift<3
saying Rift has that WoW feel just tells me not to buy it
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
AWWW poor WoW I know shes had a facelift but underneath it shes just trying to look cool and young again when we all know shes just mutton dressed up as lamb . It canna be easy on the old girl now theres a hot temptress on the scene catching everyones eye .
Joking aside Rift will appeal to those of us that wanted the glory days of Vanilla WoW back or a fed up with facepalm easy gameplay .
No offense but Rift is nothing close to WoW. They failed miserably if they were trying to clone or improve on WoW in any way.

It has that feel of something big and exciting like WoW did 6 years ago . It does'nt just build on WoW but also other games like EQ . Evolution . Not sure what your looking for an mmo but if its something fun and smooth and playable then you could do a lot worse .
I'm betting once you've been in a trial you'll like it . Given this is a game with nothing to hide I would expect one within around the same amount of time WoW offered one after release.
You know what is interesting is the position Blizzard has placed itself in. 11+ million subscribers etc etc. Eventually it's going to completely come undone and then what? Blizzard will probably release a new MMO with the public having expectations that cannot be filled. I'm waiting for that day just for the laughs.
As if Blizzard doesnt know what its doing.
Starcraft
Diablo
World of Warcraft
Enough said?

17 expansion for EQ and that game still does alright, granted it is as old as it is, but hey...
I don't see 3 expansions as overkill...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
No offense but your comment isn't even close to accurate. Rift has some things in it that does improve the genre. One that will be stolen in a few months I'm sure. AoE looting, class design and Invasions are actually an improvement on the stale themepark ride we've become accustomed. Is it ground breaking? Nope. But it is the best MMO to come out in a long time.
I'm still playing WoW but it really isn't that good a game anymore unless you are someone likes a raid or battle ground grind . World pvp and questing is pretty much dead now on most servers as everyone is in instances . I was doing the underbog recently with my level 63 priest with a team of similar levels I simply had to use renew and flash heal a few times . I only ever got down to half my mana and only used one mana pot in the hole instance just before the last boss ( just in case ) as it turned out I did'nt need to use it even then .
Its not hard to improve on WoW all you have to do is offer something similar without novice gameplay . Rift seams to me that its getting right whats gone so wrong in WoW .
That said I hope it does'nt attract all of the WoW audiance just the kind of players that were there 5 years ago when the WoW community was a lot more friendly and mature .
Best MMO to come out in a long time is pure opinion. Mine is the opposite. It s a really boring game that has nothing to offer yet to the genre.
I doubt he's tried it . When he does he'll be playing along with the rest of us by the end of the year .
If people miss vanilla WoW then look no further than Rift. The game is fun and polished and honestly no mmo has been fun and polished in a long time.
I was in beta and it can't hold a candle to WoW.
And no, I'll never play Rift, it's like watching paint dry.

I think it all depends on the players of course, but for the majority of my WoW playing time I have not really had problems with the entire playerbase. Of course you will meet donkeys, but the majority have been cool with me. I am cool to people in the game, even the people I know in real life.
Of course those people will usually get Knoxvilled when we are at the pub but hey, you buy your ticket you takes your chances...

Are there any plans for an open beta or trial version? I dislike the struggles to fight for a closed beta slot to play a game for a few minutes. But I also don't want to buy a game I didn't have a chance to play. Because we all know nearly everything a company claims about it's game is either extremely exaggerated or planned to be implemented several years in the future, and that many game review sites are dependant on the companies and not objective. Learned my lesson with games such as AoC or Hellgate London. ^^ Won't buy a game again without trying it (unless it costs only a few bucks in the steam christmas sale).
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
You really don't do yourselves any favors trying to go head to head with the dominant juggernaught of the market.
If Rift is so good, just let it be good. Don't try to trash talk a game that is ten times more polished in order to try to make Rift look better. It's silly and has you lose any sort of credibility.
Honestly, you think this is the first time a game has come out claiming to top WoW? Talk is cheap, just wait and let things happen. I guarantee your tune will change dramatically come release.
I played beta.. it was alright, but nothing to write home about. You're being completely naive if you don't know that the release and the first 6 months minimum are going to be rough for the game. It's still WAY too early to say any of the crazy garbage you just did.
I'm growing a bit worried about the fans of the game Rift to use another analogy you guys remind me of the sister who get's a little less attention than they are comfortable with. Why do Rift players feel like for their game to be worth anything everyone has to think badly of WOW.
Rift isn't going to get close to the numbers that WOW does tired and old or not, I can only assume Rift is going to go the way of every other game whos fans made it a selling point that the game is trying to copy WOW and that is firmly into it's niche. Hopefully the inferiority complex to WOW doesn't effect you guys enjoyment of the game though.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
does this somehow make you feel like a better person? "pff i don't play wow type games, i'm to good for that."
While I will agrea Blizzard has pretty much killed WoW. Rift is nothing like WoW. The game is so different. It a hybrid of the best and some of the worse mmo ever. Mixxed together and baked to perfection. The game is really solid. Unlike some other mmo that are coming out this year which is tring to rip of some other games and having massive stabilty issues. Rift still improving. Beta tester here and already the change the game alot from beta 1 to now. The game feels really good. Looks great and plays well. So far this is my mmo choose of 2011.
I completely agree. Imagine if they advertised movies like this? Oh come see this movie, it's 10 times better than Star Wars! When people make statements like that, it makes you wonder how stupid they think consumers really are. Ya, there are a lot of stupid consumers; but, hey, what attracts me personally to a product, isn't compare and contrast, it's showing me what that product can do on it's own. I do have the capacity to make my own assessments without someone telling me what to think, I would hope other people can do that as well; but, history shows that people who are desperate will buy anything.
I'm just going to assume that Trion has some very inexperienced marketers. Trying to degrade a well established MMO monster is as trashy and shallow as throwing out a political campaign ad.
Let's not forget that WoW is going on 6 years now; it's not a mystery that a lot of it's players are just tired of it and want something new to play. Who really likes playing the same video game for 6 years? I get sick of a game after just a few months. The only thing that really keeps people attached to games like WoW after so many years isn't really the content, it's more the community. It's hard to cut and run when you have an established virtual family in a game. I would know, I've stayed pretty long in some horrible MMOs just because I was in some pretty awesome PAs at one time or another.
If anyone was a hardcore gamer here, they wouldn't honestly need to knock another game just to convince themselves that another was better. Why? Because, they play more than one game, therefore they have a wide array of interests as far as gaming goes. So, they don't necissarily need this one title that can do everything for them; because, as far as I can tell, no game can honestly do that.

All my girl friends are moving to rift , wow is so 2010!! Only people still playing wow are lazy broke ass people living with mom and dad. Move out people and chuck the commodore 64 so you can play rift. :P
These 2 dudes are totally right and I completely agree with them.
