Just bought the game

momodigmomodig Member UncommonPosts: 555

I just purchased the game, downloading the patchtes now.  Though I'm not interest in PVP - I figured I give this game a try, because I like the direction/goals/features the devs have planned for it.

Just curious, how viscious is the pvp in game? aswell as is there a character white at end of beta?

Thanks

Hey can you drop back in later and let us know what you think? I was reading up on this game but want to hear more feedback before purchasing. I understand when you buy right now you get access to the current beta but there's no NDA correct? So you can talk about it?

  • momodigmomodig Member UncommonPosts: 555

Sure, I'll look and see if I'm allowed - if so I'll let you folk know how the game seems.

There is no NDA, you can talk freely.

There is open PvP, but since the world is huge and the population is low right now ( the people who preordered has already tested the game and they wait for the release now)  you probably won't have any problem with PvPers. The game is not PvP centric, there are harsh penalties for PKing and the devs are dedicated not to allow ganking-griefing. Tribe towns (player built cities) are safe zones.

Edit: there will be a final character-terrain wipe 2 weeks before launch.

ya i am curious about this game, like i love mmos that can break the mold and this really seems to be that, plus we have the freedom to change the world. that is the biggest thing i am interested in. although Rifts is coming out that day and i am more excited and already preordered that. but i wish i could beta test try a free trivial to see how i like it.

Let me tell you I'm glad I bought the game-out of the indy games I've tried.. Aevveran, Craf of Gods, Perptunum... this game is so much better, and has so much more potential.

This is the sand box of sand box games.... it's almost like a combination of Wurm and Tail and the Desert.

I picked Masonary as my craft... seems there is a big skill grind, but I don't feel rushed... and exploring is awsome.... there are mountain peaks,  and awsome waterfalls... the graphics aren't state of the art, but they are upto stands for todays typical MMO.... I'll post more as I learn more about the game... any questions I'd be glad to answer.

I highlighted the key points in your post and added one of my own. There are alot of games with tons of potential, but "potential" isn't a game.

Picking Masonary as your craft, is piontless. You will find that out soon. If you can stomach combing the trash heaps for hours on end, grinding pointlessly, for more than a few days I will be surprised. There is really nothing else to do. I was ecstatic for the first few days, until I realized that there was really nothing to do. Nothing really works, and the only thing to do is to make a village and build very basic buildings.

The game is still in Alpha testing, you're basically playing around with a client test. If it releases in March with even 1/10th of the features what they say they are going to add before then, I will be very surprised. And if they do, I will be back.

The game's developers seem to be overly optimistic and giving the game too much potential with very little support to be able to complete it properly (imho). Which, is not a good thing.

So is WURM and Tales in the desert. An endless grind&craft .But many people love them. Xsyon seems to have better graphics&animation. But what is the goal in the game? Or if there isn't one set by the devs..what will the players be aiming at?

Tribal village creation and conquering others? I think anyone that played the test client long enough and heard about future plans can predict a certain standard gameplay for the majority. I tried Tales in the Desert and it lacked in direction....There were hundreds of people being content just by the fact that they were grinding their heads off in order to get to higher crafting levels. Is this going to be the scenario with Xsyon?

  • VirtusVirtus Member Posts: 492

Xsyon is a sandbox world with no strict direction set by the developers. The players will run thier lives and tribes as they please.

A story line will begin to take place and is tintroduced on the home page of the website.

Once resources such as mines etc are in tribes will need to fight for control of these resources in order to make better tools/weapons and improve on thier technology.

Very little is known about the future of Xsyon however from tid bits that I remember it will not just be other tribes you will have to defend against...

FarReach is putting my words out of context... as for potential I'm comparing it the other indy's in my thread that I listed.... he has to learn how quote properly and not put his own meaning into my quote.

Considering that Xsyon has not even half of the features compleeted that are on thier site and that they will launch "soon" im kinda feeling saver putting my bet on Dawntide. diferent setting but also a open world sandbox game, quite a bit of work on that one still needed aswell but most actualy works in a bigger or lesser form.

  • momodigmomodig Member UncommonPosts: 555

I've played Dawntide aswell, Xsyon is much more polished...   Dawntide when I played a year ago was in horrible shape... but perhaps they've fixed things... I'm a huge fan of WURM... and this game Xsyon, is similar... WURM started out with nothing, and slowly grew with content (though the player base did not grow much)

Xsyon is a slower placed game, I feel more more relaxed and not rushed.... Tribes (guilds) are very important, and working together... this is almost like a world sim... for example, you chop down a tree, it's gone for good.  After you chop the tree, you can't just pick up all the logs, you actually have to haul each log back... and pile them at your outposte....

I'm not telling anyone to go out and buy, just my experience.

I'm under the impression (it may be wrong) is that content will be released in stages... for exampe: cave man discourvered fire, then tools, then the wheel, then the cart, and so on.

hmm i feel like pre-ordering lol, read about the missing features and shit, but i kinda dig the concept, kinda trying between this or Mortal Online....although i think i'll give up on mortal for now...anyone could give me their thoughts ? I played darkfall, although now im really tired of the grind wich we have no choice to do....its pretty sad caus i really love Agon, one of the best worlds i ever saw....thats what i think draws me to Xsyon, lay back attitude (less pvp oriented like DFO) cool open world and all.....The Devs / team running Xsyon also seems pretty kool...from what i read on the site and all

From what i hear mortal online is a lost cause.

I may preorder Xsyon too. Althought i get the feeling that i may regret it later.

Ive been waiting for a nice sandbox game like Xsyon for quite some time now.

EDIT: Anyone else notice that the Xsyon forums are like completely dead?

  • bigpigmybigpigmy Member Posts: 50

hmm well the prelude talk section looks pretty popular...what i like about Xsyon, well more its devs, is that the main dev regularly talks in the discussions and all. read this one yesterday where he explained why he decided to release 1st of march, pretty interesting. And yeah mortal online seems bad atm but im sur it will gt better, SV is pretty kool and so is the community. lol and i still might pre-order xsyon, although the 40$ is alot

Hmm game can't be that great if I never heard of it before. Not often a mmmorpg gets by me.

"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."

The Xsyon forum has a preorder-only section, its very alive with daily posts, suggestions, feedback and developer posts.

This is an interesting read, a Q&A with the lead developer, was posted 2 days ago: http://www.xsyon.com/forum/showthread.php/2763-Xsyon-Q-amp-A-with-Jooky-of-Notorious-Games

DO NOT pre-order this game if your interested in PvP. For one thing the combat is terrible, its just a click fest with little to no strategy. And on top of that the developers are catering to the non-pvp crowd. For example As soon as you start a tribe it creates a HUGE safe area and crafters can just stay in it as long as the tribe was placed  in a good place. And also thier is no way to take over tribes.

This game is fun if you want something different and just want to create things...but if you want an actual game look else where. It is more of a tech demo right now.

Also I found the graphics to be okay, but the environment was extremely bland. Every hill, tree, and rock look the same and the waterfalls are all bland (I played on max settings).

But it is only beta so I suppose thier is still hope, theres just NO way they will be able to make the game good enough for launch by thier announced release date though.

Bottom line is if your someone who was let down by Mortal Online or Darfall don't look here, this game is not for PvPers.

yea right now it is but that just because its actully broken and the lead dev needs to look into it

I pre-ordered this game in hopes of finding a new MMO to play as I am currently between them. I do like the direction Xsyon is taking and I am very interested when they release the patch in february as it is supposed to unlock a lot of the features this game has to offer. For now I am not playing Xsyon because I have absolutely nothing to do, and that isn't because just lack of current features it is mainly lack of people to socially interact with. To me that is the biggest downfall to this game, but it is understandable considering you only get beta access if you pre-ordered it. I think they should open the beta up, but that is just me. In regards to this, DFO, or MO, I would choose DFO if you like PVP and MO if  you like to be out done by someone who exploited the system and still are.

I played MO in beta and at release, than I stopped and recently resubbed to see what changed. MO is going to bomb this year, I don't see how they can stay alive with the game nearly taking no fixes. You can still run hacks that teleport, speedhack, stamina hack, you can exploit finishing books faster than normal by crossing certain areas of server lines and leaving the area to come back and finish. I am going on a tangent, but that is because I am highly disappointed with SV. Bac to Xsyon, so far this game has some actual potential, I am curious to see what happenes come february patch, to me this is going to make or break the game for me. They are a small team with some previous programmer issues as stated by them.

Bottom line, wait till after February for the patch and see what people say about the game then, if there are significant updates to the game and the developers get in a lot of what is promised I think we might have an unpolished diamond if not I guess it is just another rock ready to sink (I hope not). Everything above is purely opinion based on personal experience.

Would just like to point out a few things here.

The safe area will only be there during prelude. After prelude it will be removed. This is to allow tribes to start up without being harrased without any way to defend themselves.

As for combat, agreed it does have problems right now here is a post I made in reponse to a question regarding combat: http://www.xsyon.com/forum/showthread.php/2751-combat-improved
