you need more ram for more or less any game that you want to play as Windows XP will eat all your ram just booting up, if you can buy 2 gig which by your spec I guessing would be DDR which is about $58 at newegg then you could probably play wow with your system.

WoW or any 2D MMO from gpotato or something.

I doubt anything else will run on that, even EQ won't run on 256 MB.

EVE runs on really low end systems, but not sure if THAT low end...

you may look into older games, but with older games. you get... you know.. old games.  Anarchy Online was awesome back in the day and base game is free to play.

Xp uses about 200 mb just booting depending on the machine and how it set up but about 200mb that only leaves 56mb for games and to be honest that about lets you play minesweeper and I know it will be doing ram dumps while you play even that.

you really need more ram even if you only upgrade to 2 X 512 sticks it would still make your machine run 100 times better and at least open up games like wow if you dont do large raids or go to heavy population areas

Says in your profile that you love hacking . .... so kind of want to keep you out of games that I enjoy.

    Guildwars, Wow, DDO.

I would go for Guildwars, it will still look good on that computer.

With a large swap file you can at least somewhat get better performance by putting the junk in there. But another 256MB would help a lot,

I suggest that OP asks his friends if they have some old memories lying around, it is likely that someone have 1 that collects dust.

I would reccomend www.canirunit.com to check and see what your comp can run. But as others have mentioned Guild Wars is probably your best bet. That game runs great on a toaster.
