I have tried so many currently been trying ddo, and love everything except the melee way to repetitive, anyways there is simple no mmorpg out right now with any real meaning as far as exploration, character development, crafting, and grouping.
So my questions are, are there flashy special effects and I understand its a 6 or 7 year old game but flashy for back then is what I really mean.
Are melee animations like eq? If so that is to dated for me.
Is there allot of grouping and a good population? If so what server has most new players and vets alike?
What hybrid or caster is usually easiest to learn the game with and able to solo if need be? My favorite classes in mmos have been the bard in eq1, mage eq1, hunter in wow, but hated the game, magic archer types are allot of fun for me, versatile caster types like the illusionist and eq2 and elso enjoyed the monk in eq2.
Things I enjoy in mmos, exploration, espically dungeons, like traps, secret areas going underwater to find another area etc, diversity in skills, I hate spamming the same skills over and over, I enjoy having skills for a wide variety of sitations, pve grouping where your class can really contribute to your group? I enjoy a challenge, I do not meant constantly dying I mean having to use my head in the world of istaria, then last but not least story/lore/questing. I enjoy grinding from time to time, but I enjoy story driven quests the most.
Thanks all!

Hmm, Istaria probably isn't the perfect match for you but I recommend you try the free demo account so you can play as long as you want for free. The game is dated and there is a grind to it but you really should try it and see if you'd care for it.
The game takes place in one large world that you can explore as much as you want but certain areas do feel empty. Lots of hiden areas but no purpose other then seeing whats there. I enjoy it but it might not be what you want.
The game is dated but the spells are flashy. Melee combat is about the same as everything else in my opinion.
The game also has a low population between its servers but you can always find someone on the trade chat to help.
Tons of hybrid classes. You can pick whatever classes you want and change them later. While you have one class to start with certain skills carry over from other classes and certain classes are hybrids themselves. All of them work fine.
Crafting is the big thing in Istaria. It can be a grind but you can craft whatever you need. You can buy a plot and set up a shop on it or a house or casino or a crafting station or just some decorations.
Lots and lots of lore in Istaria. Also lots of roleplayers if your into that. They've added some story based quests in the game but they aren't anything special. There used to be major events that would shape the story and last for months but there hasn't been one for a few months now. Still should give it a try.
Make games you want to play.
