Beta 4

duelkoreduelkore Member Posts: 228

Well guys. I got into Beta 4.  Let me tell you what I think.

I am playing on a amd 6000, vista 32, 4 gig , 480, 1920 x 1080.   My ping is 40- 60 ms.  My fps is usually around 50-60.  I am playing on ultra default settings.

This game is beautiful.  There are probably 50 people around me  (noob zone) and I could not be happier with my fps.  I was concerned with people mentioning poor performance, but that is simply not the case.  I will be trying next beta event on my i7 950 with 6 gigs ddr3, 480, win7 64.  Im curious if the performace will decrease on that cpu.

The soul system is unique.  Usually I just get my spells and go ok.  Not in this game, You immediately have to choose a different soul to spread out.  I think its brilliant.  I went necro and dominator.  We all know what a necro does, the dominator adds CC .  At a low level right now I can mez mobs. I am really looking forward to the build strats.  How do I want to spend my points in the 3 soul trees.    Theres ALOT of different ideas too.  4 archetypes with maybe 8 subclasses for each..   Tons of variety

There are ALOT of extras in this game.   I mean like eye bling.   Spell effects, character detail, world detail,  terrain, the sky.   Collectibles everywhere.  For being in closed beta, this thing is hella polished.  Its hard to describe how smooth every detail is.

Basically, I am in awe.  I would suggest trying this game out if you loved any questing themepark game in the past.   I feel instantly hooked in a way that I have only been since EQ1 and WAR.  Its a hell of a smooth ride. I cant belive this is in beta. We have been fooled into thinking that games are supposed to be sluggish and buggy.  Hell not anymore

Sorta a scatter brained review, Ive had a couple beers. If you any questions Ill be glad to answer.  If you have any flames, thats fine too.  I just wanted to let people know that there seems to be no performance problems at all. I guess alot has changed since earlier beta events.

Most mmos I've tried out for the past few years, I usually alt+f4 after 3 min and uninstall. I actually stuck with this one for an hour or so. I'll see how I feel about it after I relog tomorrow.

Unfortunately, my weekend is too tight to make it onto the servers and test out the warfronts. I really wanted to test out the PvP system, as depending on how they implement it on PvE servers, is quite important to me. Oh well. I'll just have to wait until March and take most of the reviews with a grain of salt.

I know I been giving this game a hard time but I got to give them credit this shit runs smooth as hell and like literally swarms of people were around me and I experienced zero lag but of course - I tried it on my editing rig (I shouldn't install games on it) so i have 12 gigs of ram and a pretty hefty graphics card the game looks great but I feel like it could get repetitive fast the rifts need something else to them or it could get boring furiously fast - it has that new refreshing game feel to it so we'll see.

I got invited into Beta 4 (did not apply for any previous ones) and the game is good so far. I managed to hit level 11. The first thing you will notice is that wow this game looks like WoW. That was my instant first impression. The overhead npc font display and color will remind you of that, as well as the interface.

However, I gave it a chance and didn't ragequit right there. I fought on despite my fps being a measly 15 average ( I need to build a new pc) since I'm using my laptop.

It was worth it because the story telling and environment are incredibly done. That feeling of "ugh, this feels too much like WoW" will slowly fade away as the game draws you in with it's beautiful atmosphere.

After much questing, I eventually experienced fighting in rifts with other players. These were incredibly fun to participate in. It really feels like you're banding together to fight for the greater good. There are invaders from all sorts of inhabitants of the world, and sometimes even invaders from human players in the opposing faction. They did a wonderful job making things feel very dynamic. It's simply crazy, uncontrolled chaos, and you'll love it for that.

There are a few things that I want to note. First, there is no mention that there will be more events in addition to these rifts and invasions. This could be all the PvP we have, as I far as I know. This could make things very boring with lacking end-game content. Secondly, the game is good at what it does, but it doesn't do very much. What I'm trying to say is that there are many lacking extra features that would keep a player hooked. Keep this in mind as you make your choice about purchasing this game.

This game receives a 8/10 from me, and I'm no easy grader.

Not so sure about this one. I mean, it will be a hit I think, but it's just kinda... more of the same. Yeah, it got soul system which looks kinda nice and it sure does feel good to be able to tweak your character as you like. But than again the game looks kinda... plain. I don't know. Need to give it some more time and maybe I'll get in to new zones that will blow my mind away. But so far I'm just disappointed by the colors in general (if that makes any sense).

Game runs smooth where there is normal amount of people around me. When servers went up last night it was horrish. I still had some nice FPS but 100s of players around me is a bit too much to run smoothly (mind you my rig is 2 years old or so - Intel Q6600, 4GB RAM, GF 8800 GTS 512).

Dunno. Maybe I'm just a bit fed up with these generic kind of MMOs "go there, kill that, you are a hero, yada yada yada bla bla" and was hoping for something different, something a bit more sadboxish.

And tbh. I can not say if this one is better than WoW or not. WoW's beta blew me away, but this one was kinda... "I've seen this already..."

    My 2 cents.

EDIT: Mind you I'm no WoW fanboy. I don't even play that game any more.

Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...

you've seen portals open up out of the sky  in other mmos ? You've seen in a blink of en eye, an entire zones player base is running around getting into raid groups to fight of an invasion on a zone ? An ENTIRE zone, not just a small portion, the entire zone. Read my lips, The entire zone popped off and it was a very  fun intense battle. :) The Whole zone, I can't stress that enough lol...

So  what your saying  if I read it right is " the Whole zone?"

lol  i am enjoying the beta as well,  same  in some manners  but different  in others

    good fun all round

"All expectation leads to suffering" Buhhda

Im on similar rig except gfx card which is ati 5850 oc at 5870 speed, im barely over 25fps, GPU usage is not goig over 50% ever, CPU 60% usage, despite nice graphics game is choppy and  got tired with it after a while, it gets even worse when you play warfronts, trageting takes ages and that is not something you want to wait for while pvp-ing.

Until performance and optimization is fixed i will skip Rift. Though must admit is far better than at Beta 2 when is was unplayable for me

The game is fun for awhile and runs smooth, still i don't think i'll pre-order it.  It feels a bit clunky to play but the chaotic world is what really put me off. The textures are pretty good, but the skills/spell animations are kinda meh (imo). Hope those get better once you level up a bit.

I still have to try PvP, if it's any good i might change my mind. Challenging & fun open world pvp is all i really care about in a game to be honest.

So far, i havn't been impressed.. at all.

Beta - there's multiple programs running with the system including a debugger.  That's why Anti-aliasing isn't on

How high of level you get?  I'm just saying the more you play the game...the better it gets.  Truly.  That's the most common thing people say that end up liking it a lot.

I got to level 9 yesterday, so i've not seen everything there's to see in this beta yet.

Thing is, i usually get bored real fast when i don't feel connected to my character or immersed in the MMO i play.Maybe it's me being burned out on MMO's lol.

I'm planning on getting to at least level 20 and run some instances / warfronts and hope my first impression of this game was wrong heh.

Some of my friends with ATI cards got those issues as well. It could be coincidence though.. dunno.

    I'm playing it on a i7 950 @ 4GHz, windows7 64,  6gb, gtx 570 and the game runs very smooth at 50 fps.

My ping seems to have dropped greatly,  White I started at 50-60 ms, it went down to 20 ms,  Perhaps it is because i live very close to where the servers are stored in NA.  I really havent had a problem with fps at all.  Next event I will have it on my i7.  I can write another review with that computer.

Yes, this game is more of the same.  It is a themepark much like eq2, wow, aion, war, lotro, etc.  The difference between these games is that Rift looks awesome.  The early quests are very engaging.  I find the animations nice. The performance at a beta stage of life is amazing.  As soon as I logged into the Defiant opening zone, I was like holy shit. There is stuff going on everywhere.

I am forced to plan my character build.  I dont just be a necromancer or rogue.  I have to plan a necro/dominator/warlock. Then I have to second guess my build.  Maybe I wanted to be a necro/warlock/chloromanceer or anything else.  I honestly feel like I dont know waht to do.  Only play experience will put points into the soul system so I can decide what builds work best when and how.

My two best frends havent agreed with my play style since eq2. I did quit eq2 after a month while they kept playing till it went f2p.  They both came over last night and preordered.  Probably doesnt mean anything to you, but if you understood how they hated what I played on principle, then maybe the graivity of their decision would sink in.
