Singing was just an emote. Type of  *sings* , what appeared in the chat bubbles in public.

Where as dancing and playing instrument was a profession on its own merrit. The musicians had a range of instruments and songs they could learn and choose to activate on their progression to master their profession.  They gained "skill" while other players decided to actively /listen to their performance (if i remeber right just actively /listen did let you hear what the musician played). This service wasn't just a gimmick but had further benefits because it cured the players using combat professions and buffed their attributes if musicians and their customer agreed upon (for a tip).

Same goes for the dancers. They did their show performing various dances and despite you would see them dancing, for the effects (buffs etc) you needed to active /watch a dancer / and the dancer had to actively use his flourishing moves he leaened while he was progressing with his profession.

Dancers and musicians was a regular profession and far from a mini game.

The noncombatant professions were awesome. Before the current cersion of SWG was thrust upon the players, a player could select any amount of skills and easily master two or even in some cases, three professions. A player could be a master dancer that carefully strung many dance steps together to entertain, cure fatigue and/or buff players, then turn right around and hand another player his backside because that master dancer just happened to also be a master TK.

Many players enjoyed weaving a unique template that often included noncomatant abilities as well as combatant ones. It truly was a wonderful, vibrant, interdependent community.
