You are no doubt going to have to contact Trion. I am sure this is going to be a hassle for you. The credit card company probably will not refund your money since you bought a product and you can still get said product. First trying Trion (they will probably make you call them), then if all else fails wait for it to show up make a complaint of a broken product and demand a refund (the credit card company may even be able to help you at this point.)
Log into your Rift account goto Support and fill out a ticket. Easy as that. There phone support is only open during the beta events so for any support you have to use there ticket system. But it works fast. I cancelled my pre order and it took about 30 min to get a reply that my pre order had be refunded. Usually takes 3-5 day for a CC charge to refund so give it some time after that. I cancelled because I got a discount for the CE through direct2drive so I ordered through them.
The credit card company would only issue a refund if you could prove that either the product you purchased was not the one delivered, or that the game is in such an unplayable shape that it is not fit for purchase. Simply not liking it would not be enough for them to issue a refund.
Most likely Trion will handle it like Steam, as long as you cancel the pre-order quickly, and before the game launches, they will have no issue refunding your money. Just send a message to Trion to get it started.
While Trion scores low for originality, the product support they have offered during Beta has been great, I am sure if you contact them they will sort this for you.
I still wish I could like this game, Trion are doing so much right that previous launches got wrong.

Hi I had a call today from the real world they want to know if you ever intend to make good on that meeting you promised them.
So i preordered this game, played during beta weekend and now i want to cancel my preorder. But Trion Worlds has already charged my account so I am wonderin what is the easiest method to get a refund?
So, normally I am a believer that if you order a product or service and are not satisfied you should get your money back.
However, it also depends on what you agreed to when you ordered that product. If an offer said "you can get your money back but we take a finger" then I'd probably not get involved.
so what does the refund policy indicate? That's probably your first step which is to understand what you agreed to.
If there is a refund within a certain time frame then you can contact trion and get that refund.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
OP should be able to get a refund. . .I'm not since I enjoy what they have so far. However, I was able to get a refund from SOE on my pre-purchase of DCUO (bleh) becuase the game wasn't launched yet.
So with a company like SOE, believe it or not, you can pre-order a product and you are not charged until the product launches.
I would hope that Trion does it that way too; honoring pre-release order cancellations.
So i preordered this game, played during beta weekend and now i want to cancel my preorder. But Trion Worlds has already charged my account so I am wonderin what is the easiest method to get a refund?
While i think you should get your money back it sounds like to me that you preorderd just to get into beta .

A lot of people do that. I signed up for the beta a couple months ago, and was in the 4th one, although I haven't pre-ordered yet. After my experience last weekend, I plan on it, just waiting for some money to free in my budget.
I've submitted a ticket to get a refund through their support system. It appears they are going to have a solution to your question soon and you should contact them.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
If you happened to buy it on Steam, you can get a full refund by contacting Steam. If not, you have to hope wherever you bought it from accepts refunds for MMO's.
So i preordered this game, played during beta weekend and now i want to cancel my preorder. But Trion Worlds has already charged my account so I am wonderin what is the easiest method to get a refund?
Well...if you ordered from them directly, explain you want a refund. Otherwise you deal with the store you purchased from. If they refuse to refund this game which is not yet released, then call your CC (assuming you didn't pay cash) and say you want a chargeback based on a purchase. I've never had any hassle that route when wronged.
Even if you wanted it just to try the beta, I don't see it as being morally wrong as many here claim it is. People do it at clothing stores all the time, and various other businesses. Why people think the software industry is excluded from general market practice is beyond me. Perhaps the game didn't run right, or wasn't nearly up to your expectations. Given beta locks a majority of the content, I don't see why to be up-in-arms.
Ok so Trion seems to be just a bunhc of robots? Here is what I sent them...
TITLE - Refund for Preorder
Hello sir / ma'am
I pre-ordered the game about a week ago under the assumption that I would be in the US and able to play at the time of launch. Sadly life has brought me in a different direction, and I will no longer be in the United States, nor will I have access to a computer or any other device that could possibly play this game online and I am seeking a refund for my preorder. I was wondering if this could be accomplished in a timely manner? Thank you for your response and cooperation in advance.
Sincerely, ****
And this is what they sent me...
Hello Andrew!
Thank you for contacting us regarding Rift.
First off, allow me to apologize for any inconvenience you've experienced with your Beta codes or pre-orders, we understand this can be frustrating. We've compiled some common questions and provided the answers below. If these do not apply to you, please respond and we will contact you back as quickly as possible.
The latest Beta event has recently come to a close but we would like to notify you that all who have pre-ordered the game will be receiving invites to the upcoming beta events.
If you did not preorder the game and the code associated with your account does not specifically state "VIP" in it, then your account merely has a chance of being selected, it is not a guarantee.
If you have not received a Pre-order code from a retailer, such as Gamestop or Amazon, please respond back with a picture or screenshot showing proof of pre-order and we will get your account entitled with VIP.
If you pre-ordered through Steam or Direct2Drive and received a code, that code can be redeemed at your account page at www.riftgame.com to entitle pre-order benefits.
If you have pre-ordered through Trion, you will not receive a code as all the pre-order benefits are already allocated to your account.
Head-Start codes will be provided to you by the party you purchased from shortly before the Head-Start begins.
If your issue is not one of the issues listed above, we apologize for any confusion and ask that you please respond back with a detailed explanation so that we may assist you more rapidly.
If you have any additional questions or concerns then please don't hesitate to let us know. Thank you for your continued support of Trion Worlds and for playing Rift. Your reference number for this question is ***
Sincerely,
Trion Worlds Inc.
So they obviously did not even read the message i sent them...better yet when i tried to call them directly, they said they were closed because it is a holiday? What holiday is it exactly? IS this some sort of sick joke? I have never had such a bad experience with customer support in my life.
Contact Trion OP, you're well within your rights to cancel.
You should never pre order a MMO, fanboi or not.
You get no long term bonus for not waiting a few days, in fact you only get an overpopulated starting area and are going to regret most of the games you bought anyways.
So OP: Never pre order again.
Secondly try to reason with the people you bought it from. Many MMO companies wont pay you back anyways but it is worth a try.
Every time a new game is about to release we get a few hundred post from people who pre ordered and realized that they didn't like the games. Just don't preorder, no matter if the company get you some silly in game fluff or not. It will save you a lot of work and probably some money as well. Maybe even a lot of money if you pre order every MMO.
For those saying you cant get your money back, that isnt true,
My brother pre ordered on Trion's website, they said he couldnt get a refund, he explained that no retail key or subscription service was yet provided to him, and they agreed to refund him
So i preordered this game, played during beta weekend and now i want to cancel my preorder. But Trion Worlds has already charged my account so I am wonderin what is the easiest method to get a refund?
I would suggest going to their website and ask them.

Easiest method? Contact Trion....drrrr
You could try to dispute the charge with the credit card company. Tell them the reason you expect a refund - bugs or some other reason.
Have to agree, sounds like contacting Trion and asking for a refund would be the quickest way to go.

Sigh..he just asked a simple question why does this have to turn into a debate of is it good or is it lame. Contact Trion, OP.
