A possibility that both TOR & GW2 won't release until Q4 2011/early 2012???

Seriously? That would suck, no? My plan was to sub to rift for six months and hopefully join TOR or GW2 shortly after (ignoring the small issues I have with both games) if Rift got boring or the endgame didn't live up to it's potential. I honestly thought both games would be out before Q4 2011... Man... This leaves me with banking on rift really hard, returning to lotro or eve or being one of those disgruntled mmo players with no game. Damn

There is no definite release date for either of the two games. Which means that they could both easily be released before Q4, because no one on these forums actually knows how far ArenaNet and Bioware are with developing GW2 and SW:ToR.

Both developers would be wise to spread their release dates at least 3 months apart.  No matter how good a game is a certain percentage of players leave it for a newer or familiar game.  I can just imagine how many players left WoW and went back to SWG, UO, EQ or to EQ2.

SWTOR will be released during spring which starts from April till july according to EA calender, i read this at official forum sticky, no idea about GW2 though but somewhere it said November.

I thought GW2 was always going to be 2012..   and Starwars was always going to be, essentially a single player game.

Think you got butthurt by the hype engines mate, lol

I know for a fact that TOR isn't coming out in 2011.

As for GW2 they have made it clear it will be released "when it is ready". Which could mean this year or 5 years from now. However I see febuary of 2012 more likely.

And the people claiming tor is a single player game or essentially is entirely wrong.

It has a single player story like age of conan did only this actually effects the game. The game has alot of multiplayer story and loads of questing like any other mmo. It has buttloads of instances from start to finish. Alot of warzones aka battlegrounds aka scenarios. It has raids and so on. The people claiming it to be a single player game have no idea what they are talking about.

Oh! So there is an official release date for TOR? Well Atleast one will be around if Rift crashes and burns on me. I was kinda worried that besides rift my only games I would be looking forward to would be single player PC/Console stuff.

theres no way swtor will be released before september, theres so much unreleased information and they obviously have lots of testing to do. anyone notice the terrible animation in swtor were the upper body doesnt move in proper relation to the lower body.

Nahh I don't. I played eve for 4 years and lotro for me is a casual on and off thing since I don't pay for it. I like rift but who knows what will happen 6 months from Now when my toons are max level and in the endgame content. Just want to make sure I have something to fall back on.

I would love it if you could support your 'facts' with some proper links. Because you seem to be talking out of your ass.

RockGod99, Bioware clearly stated that they planned to release SW:ToR in Spring 2011.

About GW2, I already pointed out some things for some people, in here: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/view/forums/post/4017954#4017954.

This post was made without the intention of being offensive, should you think I was going all offensive on you.

Look I agree the waiting sucks.  But let them take their time.  I want a finished game with depth and complexity and we all know what happens when publishers push to get these things rushed to the shelves...

The announcement was awhile back. It said spring 2011 and it said targetted. Since then alot has changed. I do not need to prove it to you. However when it happens I will laugh humbly to myself.

They have said so many times in videos and interviews. Show so much content about the game to disprove the people calling it a singleplayer game. So saying otherwise only proves you haven't paid that much attention to the game itself. As for the release date. Sure I could be wrong. I'm not but I could be. The fact that they do not have majority of the game announced yet. The fact that they are so hush hush about the game says that alone.

Same goes for Guild Wars 2.

Look at the rest of the games that have come out over the last few months/years. It's all in the facts and the patterns. It is easy to tell. If you can't realize that then your in denial or just to full of yourself to realize that.

Sure its possible. And its also possible that i will win lotto tonight.

They will be releasd when they are released.

  • peacekraftpeacekraft Member Posts: 189

I am assuming a Q1 2012 release for GW2, there is just so much more information yet to come. They are releasing information to us when the features are ready and finished so I bet it will be a long time yet.

I agree with that. I'm just trying to get some info. I like planning my mmo year out ahead of time. It's how I survive in the genre that rarely has any high points and has lows that last years. Makes shut easier to deal with if I know what I'm going to stick with.

I'm kind of curious about when people say we don't know much about SWTOR. Because it seems we know pretty much the same things about TOR as we do, say, Rift. And Rift has an official release date.

So maybe I'm missing something, but what are some of the things we don't know about TOR yet? Only things I can think of off the top of my head is we don't know much about open world PvP and end game raids, other than that they're in the game.

Don't be... The one thing you can be certain of is that none of us (here) know when either of these games will actually be released.  Heck BioWare and Arenanet might not even know at this point.

The best thing you can do is not worry about it.  Try something that interests you, like Rift, and if you think that fails then move on.  There is bound to be something that you can play...

Oh, and btw, I'm in exactly the same position you are... I want to play SWTOR, and/or GW2, but I really don't know when they will be released, or even if they will be as good as they might appear.  Then there's Rift, which is from an Unknown company.  And while it looks like it could be fun, I'm not sure how it will be in the long run.  Still I'm going to try it out.  We'll see!

Tbh, I am quite sure we WONT see either before 2012. Probably along with the next WOW expansion. ;)

If they wait too much, they give Blizzard opportunity to counter them and we end up with yet another decent game that dies soon after release. Next winter is fine, next summer is risky if they let deadline slip. Near future is dumb so we are stuck. That is what decides releases, you can go with less content or more content, you just adjust XP gains and pay extra bandwidth for updates. Class mechanics is "cheap" - you either have good designer and it works in no time or you have bad one and it will never work, similar with network code.

Did not EvE start to move towards Incarna to pass the time at least?

Oh and on personal note, I like how OP gets bored with LOTRO after all, that game is one big Skinner box with nice paint but little fun pecking at the button.

I'm not bored with Lotro... I leveled a dwarf hunter to 65 and log in to do skirms and deeds. It's a casual game for me, I'm not bored lol.
