I played CO a little while back and I have to say it was really fun. Played STO as well and it was fun, but paying ~$250-$300 for either one is just way too much. Those prices are just truly robbery.
I am glad I was able to get a refund on my money that I paid for the lifetime membership when it first came out. though I thought it was just 199 then, maybe not dont really remember. The game wasnt that bad but it wasnt that good either. I might try the f2p but I wouldnt spend any money on it.
Shortly before the game first came out the lifetime subscription offer was $199.00, but after it launched it went up in price.
"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan
Why is it strange to post about a game you dont like? Hate is a strong emotion just like love. If the fanbois are driven to post how great things are, it is only natural for the opposite side to post their opinion.
"Sean (Murray) saying MP will be in the game is not remotely close to evidence that at the point of purchase people thought there was MP in the game." - SEANMCAD

Meh, I remember Nagus from the STO boards..He's just playing the advocate.
Yeah, the people who claim to not like Cryptic but stalk them around the internet and post about them every time they get a chance are pretty funny
Really, all these people just created their accounts here at MMORPG.com just to troll Cryptic....
I mean they arnt here because this is a MMO fansite and these people like (some) MMO's.....?
Never said that. But whenever these people see anything about Cryptic they flock to it. Strange behavior for something they supposedly dont like.
Well it's probably because a lot of the people on this site were let down by CO or STO. Doesn't seem like strange behavior to me.
You know your right; "strange" wasnt the right word. In fact, I see this kind of behavior all the time. Its like people who have a bad break up, and then cant get over the person and keep talking about them all the time instead of moving on.
Really, what the heck is the point of purchasing a Lifetime Subscription to a Free to Play MMO? Isn't the point of that making it so no one needs to pay a subscription at all?

Oh yeah, the cash shop...
Might want to ask Turbine that, as they are the ones that popularized this model.
lolol. CO is goin F2P at the end of the month and STO probably in 6 months too. I had a lot of respect for Cryptic sometime ago with COH, but man these guys are the next Activision lol.
Cryptic Studios has announced that lifetime subscriptions for both Champions Online and Star Trek Online will be on sale for 20% off beginning January 25th. The sale is in celebration of Champions going free to play and Star Trek Online's first anniversary.
To celebrate the launch of Champions Online: Free for All and the one year anniversary of Star Trek Online, we’ll be discounting the price of Lifetime Subscriptions for both games by 20%! The sale starts January 25 at 6 a.m. Pacific and ends February 4 at 10 a.m. Pacific. This means players will be able to purchase a Lifetime Subscription to Champions Online: Free for All or Star Trek Online for just $239.99!
When a life time sub for DC universe costs less than the "discounted" life time subs for 2 soon to be freet to play games, you know Cryptic are basically D!cks
So basically Cryptic is saying "Our game sucks so bad that we had to make it free to play just to get some people on the servers. How about you ignoring that, ignore the fact that both our games were universally reviewed poorly and that STO will be free very soon and just give us your money!"
Can you imagine what it must be like to work at Cryptic and always wonder if and when the doors will be closing? To always be offering discounted offers each month in the hope of staying in business? To have your name and your work associated with the poor performance of these two games? You think Zinc is ever gonna see a job as Executive Producer in the next decade again?
sadly he probably will.. folks in this industry tend to be recycled, no matter how feckless they are.
it's part of the underlying problem with the genre tbh, and has a lot to do with why we are were we are.
until cryptic pulls their heads out of where-ever they've chosen to stick them to avoid the obvious problem in both their games, a sub of $15 to either is pushing it. now to ask/offer unlimited play **cough** dress-me-up **cough** for a "discounted" $240 is just laughable. lets not forget the biggest fail point to both of these titles: 100-player capped, INSTANCED worlds. how can you possibly have/maintain an mmo community 100 people at a time? why grant the ability to form (not-so) supergroups of 250 players when your world instances can't accomodate them all? this is so shameful coming from a company that brought us CoX. how can they have possibly thought an instanced open world could ever work? "oh, just give them zone chat that carries through all world instances..." to ask for 240 bucks for this, F2P or not, is like expecting people to buy a pinto with no engine... good luck getting them to want the car in the first place.

Wow this is just evil. Man that company is always just trying to turn a buck.

If this is not the biggest outright rip off in the genre, I would be shocked.
