well i've been watching this game for a few months and i want to pre-order, the only thing is i really want to try the game out before i drop the cash. i signed up for beta but i'm not going to take a chance on that. so my question is can i pre-order the game from gamestop or wal-mart, get into the beta and then cancel my pre-order if i decide i don't like it? i know that sounds kind of dooshbagish but i really don't have the money to waste.
thanks

Not sure about those 2 outlets, but I do know that you cant get a refund from Trion if you pre-order. Maybe steam?
Also, be on the look-out for any other VIP key give-aways, that way, you're guaranteed to get into the beta events.
Yeah you can preorder from gamestop for $10 down and you'll get your pre order key. You can always cancel at anytime after that and get your $10 back or have it applied to store credit.
Anyway what type of server do you plan on playing on?
And whats your playstyle (PVP,PVE,Raiding/Hardcore or Casual)?
i would buy it on steam but i prefer having the actual disc. i might just end up doing that though.
ah gotchya, thanks.
i plan on playing a PvE server and then i might make a character on a PvP server later on. i'm more of a casual (unless the game is REALLY good, then i go hardcore) PvE/raiding kinda guy.
Thats actually good news. Also, wait a bit for some folks that pre-ordered on steam. I havent, but thought I recall some other posts mentioning it was a good call, if you dont mind digital download, since you can get a refund on pre-ordered games that haven't been released. Perhaps because you aren't actually billed until the launch date.
I pre ordered on steam, and after trying beta i got my money back with no problems.
well don't you get
Exclusive in-box premium items:
8GB USB Drive: Exclusive flash drive branded with the Rift logo
Official Rift Soundtrack: Featuring 17 epic tracks from acclaimed game composer Inon Zur
SteelSeries gaming mouse pad featuring detailed art of a blistering Fire Rift
Telara Chronicles Trade Hardcover: All five issues of the gripping graphic novel miniseries based on the Rift universe in one limited-edition hardbound book
those goodies if you pre-order from a retailer? or was that a limited time offer? if that's the case i would rather go that route and get the in-box stuff.
I cannot blame you for being cautious, (given the last few years MMOs, especially at launch). I recommend trying the beta, the last 2 where fantastic, but it’s turning out to be one of games that either grabs you or it doesn’t. It’s not one you can strait up recommend or not. I really hope Trion starts a trial period.
Yeah but it is $20 more for those extra in-box stuff, which I personally don't need so I think the digital CE is better for me.
that's good to know, thanks.
I did this by accident once and had no problems whatsoever, at Gamestop, cancelling. (I actually did it through the Gamestop website, which did not require any money down). I had selected store pickup, so just went to that store and cancelled, no problems.
It would be smarter to wait until thr free trial is out.
Pre ordering to get beta access and the cancel is not the best way of handeling things. Besides starting on the first day in a gme like Rift will not be that great, some quests were hopeless during the beta because there just were too many people around.
Wait a little while, pre ordering MMOs rarely turn out to be a good idea.
Rift is fine enough but it wont work for everyone.
Thats a good route to go. Game Launch is March 1st. There will be a few more beta events prior to that. Your sure to get a decent idea about the game, I'd think.
the reason i want to try the beta is because i have no idea when a tria will come out. it could come out 6 months from release for all i know. i just don't want the game to be dead by the time i get around to playing it.
check out rifts forums. they basically offer an open beta if you have an account with them, applied for beta and opted for the newsletter. http://forums.riftgame.com/showthread.php?30296-RIFT-Newsletter-Incoming!&p=538161#post538161
Trion bumped up the respawn rate for all quest mobs and items in beta to eleviate that issue. You must have play the first beta for a couple hours cause they patched that in one the first day...

Well if you are looking for a guild or just want some folks to chat with on TS3 about the game and help you out during the betas. Check us out at http://riftsforgottenheroes.guildportal.com
I know EB games does it for sure for the in-store. Why don't you give them a call and shoot them an e-mail to confirm. I'm sure they'll get back to you pretty quickly. And I really think both of them would refund. Because both has policy: If the computer game is unopened you can return.

Tazlor, if you are unsure and dont want to pre-order, just check your PM's. I read about this new Zam VIP give-away, and they still had keys. . . http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/299571/page/17
. . .so I PM'd mine to you. You'll get into all the Beta Events now without having to pre-order.
Thank you very much, sir. Zam still has keys if you have a free account with them.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
