When an mmo is releasing in 1 week and there is absolutely no info about it and the NDA still exists something is wrong, very very wrong about it, im saying 100x more wrong then Mortal Online, wich is the wrongest mmorpg released in the last couple of years.
Going to have to be a little more specific than that please. From what I understood MO had a multitude of problems.
So what do you mean exactly?

What? There is tons of information on it if you look for it. What you really want to know is how the actual state of the game is I'm sure though. I guess we will see about your theories soon enough.

yep, something smells fishy..yet as there is not so many sandox options with full loot one remains interested somewhat :P
i think the best example how a company acts that trusts in their product is trion with rift..i mean they don't try to hide at all tho it is not my primary mmo focus it's refreshing to see something polished :P
I would ask the guilds who have their own subsection in the Earthrise forums and have since gave up on the game exactly why. At least 3 of those guilds have left the game and decided not to play as a unit anyways. There is something not right with this game. 2 gameplay vids, 1 trailer and next to zero info a week and half before launch.
Could you provide links to said guilds' forums who have dropped earthrise? Otherwise, just speculation.
I would ask what the game offers it's players in both optional content and player tools outside Crafting, territorial pvp and skilling up. That's going to be the decider for me. I want more than what a basic sandbox game offers.
Well i would ask where is the open beta cause something is not right when they are this close to release and there is still an nda.
Well its a Beta not a Free Trial.
This game would require an open beta before i would give them any money since they are obviously trying to hide something.Thee isnt even any general information about the game on the site it's really the only mmo i have ever seen release without anyone knowing anything about it. Even wiht darfall and mortal people knew the games states before purchase.

Go read the forums. Theres is more than enough information there.

They've already stated housing won't be in the game at lauch, but they'll look to add it in later. (I don't think this feature is too high up on the list though since it's not even one of thier advertised features.)
We know mechs want be in at launch, I'm not sure about other vehicles.
If they had any confidence in the game they would be letting us see it all. This is not looking good. Can anyone think of a business, marketing, consumer reason to be secretive? That was not rhetorical.
(The presenters of a certain mmo podcast mentioned they had been in a terrible beta, but couldn’t say more, I have a very strong feeling it’s this one).
I hope I am wrong, I am sandbox starved right now. But a good game means good closed beta, which means lifting of NDA, which means good word of mouth, which means open beta, which means even more good word of mouth, etc, (see RIFT)

I have to disagree with you. Many good games lauch poorly. Many bad games launch smooth. You really can't say if X happens Y will be the outcome when talking about MMO's because they differ so much.
Plus RIFT is just a copy of other games and doesn't try anything new. It is well put together though so I'm not saying its a bad game.

Rift is fun as well as smooth, that translates to hype, I was talking about pre-launch hype not really the state of it at launch, you need a fare number of people playing it then, good or bad, but anyway many mmos never recover from a bad launch, or at least never get back a certain number of players.
Games differ, but certain economics principles don’t. If Earthrise is good then it will survive, but it needs publicity and a good vibe if you want more than a small core player base, but actually significant success, which may lead to more such games. You don’t get publicity or a good vibe with an NDA this close to launch. We are talking about a window of opportunity, initial impressions last, AoC, XIV and APB will always be associated with a bad launch. if Earthrise pulls and EVE, and is in this for the long haul then the state of beta or even launch is not that important a factor, I agree, but the mmo community, sandbox or theme park is sick of bad launches, period.
I agree, and I'd certainly advice waiting for launch and reviews...maybe 1 month for playerbase curve to be graphed.
I'm just saying. There's no 'rule' syaing there must be an OB. I think it's suicide not to stress-test which is really what the OB does aside from marketing but they either have something amazing in there or something with smoke and sparks coming out of it and with white-coat personnel running back and forth in panic trying to fix it.
I kind of understand why they aren't having an open beta. This is a nich game. Its not going to have a huge subscriber base. If they were to have an open beta they would need server capacity for hundreds of thousands of people, but then when they go live they would only need enough server capacity for 50k people. What are they supposed to do, buy a bunch of additional servers and then return them to the vendor a week later? Our expectations of mainstream titles may not apply here.
I am still keeping an open mind about the game, but I have a feeling it will be best to treat it like a Cryptic game (wait a year, then try it).
Comments
Will or would you buy this game...? But in the spirit of the thread I suppose I would ask ..
1. How large is the map?
2. How many slots are available to insure items?
3. How exactly do the secuity boundries work? ( Hi Sec- Low Sec )
4. If my guild builds a fortress, when can it be attacked?
5. Can I fish??
I've been following this game for quite some time now, I suppose the real question would be, " Have they implemented what they said would be in-game"?
If I download the beta client, will I be able to use it to log into the real game on release day?
out of all the question you could ask, seriously?
well, i can answer this for you, No
So What Now?
just this: is it another mortal online ? :P

eh the overall impression and feel not much to say about it really
considering that the beta for FFXIV was essentially exactly the same product as the final release, this is a valid question
more MMOs should be doing this honestly. making us download the game twice is a waste of time and bandwidth
Ask me a year ago and I would have bought it on release, ask me now and I say I will wait at least a month before thinking of it.
Vehicles are in?

Is the combat really as bad as it looks in the videos? How close to FPS is it rather than auto target, point click shit.

Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP

Looks like the NDA has been lifted:

That's not officially confirmed. It's just a user claiming it.
Ostiak, an admin and producer confirmed it. What more do you want?
