i think i'm having a problem with my patcher...please read.

in Rift

so yesterday i download and install the patcher.  it took about 5 minutes.  i'm hearing about some 8GB download but when i run the client it isn't prompting me to download anything.  is there something wrong with my patcher?  i want to be ready to play when it opens.

    I also downloaded and installed the client. It took no more then like 3 minutes. I think clicked on RIFT BETA icon on my desktop and it opened a window that asked to patch the game. The patch was over 7GB. Took about 1.5-2 hours to patch. Then I launched the game and had another minor patch. Try doing that cause you need to download the 7GB patch.

    When you click the icon for the patcher that is on your desktop. It loads up and shows the login area. You log into the login area using your e-mail and password. Once you have done that it should show either an UPDATE button or a PLAY button.

    If it says play then hit play and it should take you to an empty server list if the servers aren't up or a server list if they are up.

    After you put in your Screen name and password you will see a big ass orange button that says update. If not I believe there's a button that when clicked it scans your files and then shows the button.

    I will confirm this,as it is exactly what happened to me even after i did the login.I did not get any update until i just went through and clicked to the blank realm list then exited,restarted the patcher and everything was cool as i then got the update to show.

    ugh....i figured it would download whatever it needed when i ran the patcher.  i've never played a MMO that patches AFTER you log in.  well i guess i'll be a few hours late to the party.

    Not to sound like a fanboi but it kinda makes sense.  I mean why waste the bandwidth on updating if the user doesnt even have a valid account?  Enjoy the beta!

    Oh yeah, complained about that the first two tests but guess nothing was to come of it.

    Then noticed a few other games switched to this. 

    Will develop an original MMORPG title for money.

    Never thought of that before. I guess that's why Mythic does the same thing with WAR. Can't update unless you put your PW in. It's smart.

    I think the PvP server I picked gone caboom. Probably hit low to full within seconds hehe. Waiting for a bit, then I'll take a big break.

    Yeah, I think the servers are overloaded like crap. :P 

     

    Just have to be patient I guess. ^^

    getting the same but if servers are overloaded i thought that pre orders got priority?

    Good guys! Overload those servers, blow em up. Lets get the server issues out of the way now, instead of release day.

    Has the beta actually started or is it starting later in the day?

    Maybe they haven't turned them on yet.

    New servers came up first. First new PvP server I saw (EU, EN) filled in ~5 minutes. Old servers came up. I logged into Blightweald. Servers came down. Forums shortly after.

    Spending my time drinking cider and smirking at people posting "game has failed already, cant log in, /quit." on the Rift forums (when they work).

    Considering rift pre-order sales are in the top ten on all the major game seller sites and with the sick amount of VIPs they gave away we could be seeing 2+ million players crashing beta all at the same time lol. Let's let them get some more servers up lol.
