Hmm let me make a trolling strawman post by not even trying to remotely engage the concerns in this topic...
Is there anything in what you quoted (now read specifically what you quoted) that says anything about the good guys being black and the bad guys being white?
We should all boycott this game due to its inherrent racism and speciesism.
No, The OP made that claim, this reply furthered the absurdity of the OP's original statement. So I chose to quote his reply (it came last in the line of replies at the time) instead of the OP post.

This is the statement that drew my attention by the way.... Race is an issue only when people that want to use it to further their own cause make it an issue. We live in a world where the President of the leading nation in the world is not white, a world where the vast majority of the most popular athletes in the world are not white, a world where you can have a television network completely dedicated to Blacks while the up roar over a station dedicated to whites would cause the end of that very company.
Anyone playing the race card is simply looking to gain something. The only racist anywhere seem to be the ones crying race!

That is exactly the point, we are not asking for a boycott, we are simply asking for a greater skin color palette for both factions, bringing up a valid concern in a cogent manner.

I didn't get much into the whole game of racial or bad vs good,but i do remember the character setup.
What i was surprised was the lack of colour choices,very minimal.If i wanted a purple player for example,i should be able to have purple skin or orange,whatever i wanted.So the lack of choice,means TRION definitley had a purpose on it's agenda,so the op may have a minimal valid point.
If you can't understand the OP's point,then think about yourself if you are a white skin person in rl,do you pick dark skinned players in games?I would say usually not,so everyone does want their choice and really they all deserve it.
I could see if they had been using super high resolution textures on the players and couldn't afford too many differences loading onto the screen,but Rift is very low poly,the texures on the players look actually bad almost 12 palette colour nothing close to 16 bit or 32 bit.So there is no excuse for not having basically every colour taken care of,so again ,they had a reason,purpose,maybe Trion should be asked for their reasoning?

You can however, make any color person you want in Rift, thats not the claim of the OP.

I am sorry you feel that way, wish you could see the world through my eyes on an every day basis. I personally dont care about all the junk i have to deal with on an everyday basis, i just hope my son doesnt have to when he grows up. It is a small thing to add to the skin tone color palette, that is what we are asking for, why are you so against it?
The only racists anwaywhere seem to be the ones crying race is a very dangerous statement. The police officer that pulls me over on the streets of Brooklyn and gets me spread eagle on the ground because i "fit the description" says nothing about race. The sweet gandma on the porch who says "them people" but never makes mention of race, dont cry race (note in my examples i never said the race of any party involved in these examples you can make any interchangeable).
Be careful with the words you use for they are powerful.
Getting back to the subject again we are just asking to expand the skin color palette for both factions. That "takes race out of the game", not making believe that the distinction that is currently hard coded in does not exist.

I remember that the colour palette could go very white. In fact, the only issue was that you could achieve albino white but not the rose white skin.

Anyways, I have lived in and seen every angle, the only difference is I am not currently trying to create an image of racism where it does not exist. Are there still some people that dont like Blacks? yep, and more that dont like Whites, but they are far and few. and they do not make up the majority of our world today nor are they guiding the direction of our media and media outlets. In fact if anything, our media pushes to far the other direction as I pointed out before.
If things have been hard for you, I am sorry to hear it, but because you have stumbled across some misfortune, it does not mean that the progress and success in removing Racism as a staple in our culture today is not there.

SIGNIFICANT progress has been made and i am grateful for it. However it has not been eradicated and we must guard against its negative effects from all persons be it overt or unintended and subvert.
You simply can not make all people like all people, that will never (and should never) come. To live in a world where people are not free to dislike me for whatever reason they want is to be in a world without freedom. Can't have it both ways.
All you can hope to have is a world where the controlling government (what ever country you live in) does not hinder anyone based on race and all races have an equal shot at everything. We Are There Now!!
If your expecting to finally live where everyone likes everything about you, then stay in the house and don't piss off the wife...

This will be my last post on this because we are getting off topic of adding skin tone color palettes to Rift but my response is simply; yes you are free to dislike me, but do not dislike me and use any sort of power you may have to impact my life simply because i am a different color.
You know i dont think we are actually that divergent of thought as to the core of this issue.
I disagree that everyone has an equal shot right now. The playing field is not level in this society, how is a child who has no access to 3 square meals a day and only has access to schools that dont teach have an equal shot? It will take many generations to break this cycle we have gotten into. However having said that we are FAR more advanced than most others, but we can be and should be better.
Oh yeah, and its best to never piss off the wife.

Some people just see racism in everything. The real world should never be brought into the game world. if you have a problem playing a fictional race with white/black skin then you have a lot of issues.

However, one last comment about the highlighted part... You just described my childhood. Went to as bad of schools as you can and my mom became a master at cooking Ho'cakes (flour lard and water) and gravy. I currently am the owner of my own MMA Gym, have a wife and three kids and do well enough to waste money on 5 mmo accounts a month. That argument about not having the same shot as everyone else because of where and how you grew up doesn't fly with me. Me and my brother walked through it and are both doing fine.

Have you seen the movie? The character in the movie is clearly black and bald. That the actor in RL is neither is completely irrelevant.

Since the person the character was based on was Persian and the character himself was described in the film as Persian by the characters in the film during the film itself was Persian, one must then simply believe that the intent of the film making was that the Character would then be viewed as Persian.
So if this Persian character, based on a Persian king played by a Brazilian actor somehow became black in your eyes, then umm, I think we found our racist !!!

yamota...... 300 is based on greek mythology so of course the spartans are going to be painted in a good light and the invaders painted as the bad guys. people see racism in everything, i suppose you want them to re-write mythology because it offends you. The fact that you have a problem with it makes you racist.
It was not meant to suggest Trion was racist, since both sides have been portrayed as being the bad guys - fanatical in their beliefs as for the Gods or against the Gods. The Guardins in their fanaticism for the Gods initially stood by to let the Defiants create the mess. Then the Guardians in their fanaticism for the Gods destroyed the machines the Defiants had built to try to fix the mistake they made. The Defiants in their fanaticism against the Gods created the machines that caused the mess. Yet with that same fanaticism, they also attempted to create the machines to prevent the mess from getting worse. Faith vs. Science would appear to be the main point of tension between the sides.
Yet at the same time, there is also the underlying nature of the two sides. The lore is fuzzy on the timeframe, since originally everybody was with the High Elves. The way it reads, either the Eth were Mathosians that evolved into the Eth after moving into the desert areas (who knows about the Kelari and the Bahmi) or there was a single tribe that split up into the Mathosians and the Eth. How long passed between the split with the High Elves and the creation of the machines that started the mess - how long it took for the Guardians to stop the Defiant efforts to prevent it getting worse - the whole timeline is difficult to follow and is not really well laid out.
The High Elves would appear to have been oppressive for groups to have broken with them. One could think of it as a form of Reformation - a splintering of sects that grew over a period of time (but again, what period of time?)...
With whatever time passed, we ended up with the Mathosians (which at some point grew to be the largest of mankind's empires), the High Elves (who apparently supported the groups that favored the Gods - even though the aspects appear to be more Human than Elf), and the Dwarfs vs. those that had left for other lands away from the "holy" oppression while seeking the freedom to pursue their own beliefs. They would become (or simply were, again this is not clear) the Eth, Kelari, and Bahmi. Because of the location of where they lived, they evolved (or already were) differently than the Guardians.
Thus, although there was the war based on Faith vs. Science - there was inevitably the underlying race war. There are no Eth, Kelari, nor Bahmi Guardians. There are no Mathosian, High Elf, nor Dwarf Defiants. Yes, to me the best option would have been to go more with how SWG handled Imperial vs. Rebels. I am not overly fond of the single sided race aspects that games such as WoW offer. However, even in forcing players that want to play a race to pick a side or those that want to play a side to pick a race; WoW still offered a broader range of skin tones and features for those races. RIFT does not offer that, and it is odd - once again - because of how simple a thing that is in comparison to the major changes they offer over current games.
I see RIFT as an evolution of the current MMORPG genre in much the same way that WoW was when it came out. Not really that much that was new in the least, but a combination of many of the elements out there - much in the way that evolution takes place. Yet such a simple thing was overlooked.
To further detract from the overall war of Faith vs. Science, we have the latest CGI trailer for RIFT.

To OP, I really think your argument is weak... First off there are concept drawings of black Mathosians...
Second off, there are concept arts for white Eths...
The Vigil resurrected anyone that had expertise in combat, not just those that worshiped them... They brought back anyone from any time that would help prevent Regulose from breaking the Ward further...
The reason he "was not chose for his fate" is because he was instead chose for his combat ability... which he also shows in the movie. Thats the whole point to the Guardians... They are the best fighters reincarnated.
He was fighting, because that's what he does best.
Concept drawings are nice - actually in the game is different. It was also one of the things that I pointed out - how some of the NPCs in the starting area for the Defiants actually look Mathosian, yet you cannot make a character that looks like those NPCs...
