Aion is better than Rift in everything. And if you think Aion is a grind, you should probably go back to wow or fps games, the mmorpg genre is not for you.
Aion's quest are as dry as can be
The quests in Rift are even more generic and simple.
I mean, you jump from quest hub to quest hub with the hand held all the friggin time, there is nothing new.
Quest suck in general in all themeparks... Now what does Aion do to mask the pathetic quest system? Because Rift uses Rifts/invasions and footholds.
the funny part of this whole thread is people who don't like the game Rift hanging around the Rift forums. I just don't get it. If your not happy with what Rift can offer then move on to a game you like. But to sitting around in Rift forums and continues to bash the game doesn't make any sense. Example, when I finish playing daoc before wow, I didn't hang around the daoc forums bashing the game, in fact instead I let my wallet do the talking and I moved on to wow. And now I'm doing the samething. I'm voting with my wallet and moving over to play Rift. Nobody can make a stronger case for not like a game like Rift than leaving the Rift forums and going to a game they like. Just my thoughts.
That's the same as saying "If you like Rift, just play it and stop making threads complaining about other people complaining."
And seriously... have you never been to this site? Any section of the forum pops up on the front page as long as it's pretty active.
Imagine if Rift haters (not me) didn't reply to this thread. The OP asks about other games that are better than Rift, and suddenly you have 30 pages of "Rift is the best game, there are no other good games." It's called checkng the system, some one has to look at it with a real perspective.

They have "rifts" as well. Except you have gank squads come through those rifts. That is what breaks up the quest grind monotony there. The problem there is the imbalances. Even a difference of just 4 or 5 levels makes it impossible for the lower level player to have a chance (unless he makes it back to an npc guard).

They have nothing to play and rift is the most active forum at the moment. Once TOR hits in september they will all shift to that forum. Basically they just post in whatever forum pops up more on the recent post page.

Those are just some of the many phases a rift goes through. Basically, it starts small, and then grows big enough to mass an invasion. There are different things to do when a rift opens, but your main goal is to stop it. That's why people enjoy, because for that brief moment, or long... you can leave any quest logs behind and just play.

Its really sad that they feel they have to do that. We all get it, some player don't like rift. I say move on to a game you like.
A week ago I was actually thinking about getting this game because a thread that was actually informative showed up here. But after the constant new threads being made about clones, the only thing I can think about the game at this point is, it must be true, because the only threads you ever see are...
"If this is a clone why am I having such fun!?"
After seeing that a gazzilion times in a week, I say must be true, if the only topic ever seen is about how the game is better then the clones it's made of. I was again interested, but eh I was on the wall... after seeing a ton of these threads (not just on mmorpg btw), I am pretty much thinking the publisher hired a ton of counter "its not a clone" posters making me think "ya, it's definitly a clone that will bore me in a few weeks" , so where to go bots, you did your job to well and made me loose interest yet again! lol you can tell im bored if I keep looking at this game thou.
The people who dislike the game come to the forums and post about it. The people who like the game are busy playing it. You'll almost always hear way more negative than positive on internet forums.

GW2 is definitely attempting some really awesome things. I just feel some hear these words and then start 'inventing' things in their own head on what that means.

Done in two months, sure. But I'll probably stick around until GW2 come out. Kind of hard to tell at the moment. I mean you can cap in two months, but I'm sure the game has more to offer than just capping.

Actually, there are plenty of people that aren't playing the game they like and just going on about how great their game is.
Yeah... So basically no game offers what Rift offers with it's dynamic content and flexible class system... And if I want something similar or better I will have to wait until 2012 for GW2. Awesome. I guess Trion did a good job then aye? Make a "clone" that is polished and still offers mechanics that you can't find in anyother game (unless you time travel). Well good for Trion... I still have nothing to play.
And if you think Aion is a grind, you should probably go back to wow or fps games, the mmorpg genre is not for you.

Rifts are tears to another plane, if those rifts ae left open long enough invasion forces will come through. Those invasion forces move to attack hubs. If a hub falls, then it becomes a foothold. If a foothold is not dealt with, it will begin to spawn its own invasion forces which then move to more hubs and attack them. If enough of them fall to footholds, then zone wide events can be triggered, and well all hell can break loose.
I've sen people try and defend hubs from invasion forces only to be overrun because they never deal with the rifts that are the cause of the invasion. At times there have been hubs overrun by 75+ mobs from 10+ invasion forces which all converged on that one point. They are a biatch to take back trust me. And if you dont clear those rifts first it can be like beating your head on a wall because they just keep coming back.
So.. lets say nobody is in a zone for a while does that mean the invasions will take over all of the quest hubs? Or can only the non-town hubs be taken over?
So.. lets say nobody is in a zone for a while does that mean the invasions will take over all of the quest hubs? Or can only the non-town hubs be taken over?
From what I understand there is a time limit. So after 2 hours or whatever, the invaders will disappear.
"Better" is pretty subjective in this matter. It all depends what you are looking for. I personally look for great crafting, many starting zones and an open world. As such, Fallen Earth is obviously better for me than Rift. If you are looking for more of the same, you might get happy with Rift.
If it's the same that means there isn't any better.
On par...: WAR, AOC, LOTRO, DDO, WOW, EQ2, EQ1, Allgersomethingother, Runes of Magic, Castle Age on Facebook, Farmville, so on so forth.
No one saying it's a bad game.
It's just so typical it just isn't special.
But feel free to buy in to the hype.
Except that people are saying it is a bad game, and usually not in your passive aggressive manner.
I also don't see anyone saying it's special. A lot of threads in support of it do say that it is more of the same, just polished. A lot of people like WoW's game play, they're just sick of the direction it is going in and sick of playing in Azeroth.
When it stops being a multi-million dollar gamble to make an MMO that is a speshul little snowflake, you'll see more developers attempting it.
I think it's a shitty game and the company should go bankrupt for their nonchalant and shameless sell of the same crap that people have either enjoyed (WoW still has a lot of subs) or got tired of (2008 saw a lot of people in exodus looking for this something different).
I've been far from passive aggressive in my critical analysis. I got the mod warnings to prove it. But I mean what I say that it's an okay game, it sucks to me because it's what I've already been tired of for awhile. I'd rather save my cash for a company that ties the risk factor with innovation and excellence in their craft. A few games have done this before, it can happen again. Why suckle on second rate clones? Because a well made clone is the best the industry can do? That's a pretty sorry outlook.
Dear Mr king,
you are not the first one to be aggressive about Rift and being warned about it, get over yourself. Why you would want Trion Worlds to become bankrupt because they can't make an MMORPG to your liking is not only evil in thinking and shows you need to move on. Don't blame the MMORPGs, blame yourself for not moving on (try single player, perhaps another hobby) as well as accepting nothing perfection. Why don't you go out there then and with all your millions of dollars and create this revolutionary and innovative title that will rock everyone's socks off?
I'm sorry that you think everything being released is such a second rate clone, may you wait until something really special comes out. Maybe in the next 10 years perhaps....
"Better" is pretty subjective in this matter. It all depends what you are looking for. I personally look for great crafting, many starting zones and an open world. As such, Fallen Earth is obviously better for me than Rift. If you are looking for more of the same, you might get happy with Rift.
I wouldnt go to the place of saying 'if your looking for more of the same' then go to Rift, well because it isn't the same. Dont get me wrong, I'm a big time fan of FE myself, as a hardcore crafter you kind of have to enjoy FE for that if nothing else. But Rift is not just like any other game out there even though some like to say it is. If you ask me, those that are saying that most likely thought it was before they ever tried playing it in the first place. Hard to convince someone something other than what they already believe to be true. They wanted it to be just like whatever, so of course thats exactly what thier eyes seen.
So.. lets say nobody is in a zone for a while does that mean the invasions will take over all of the quest hubs? Or can only the non-town hubs be taken over?
Rifts scale too zone population. If noone is in the zone not ad many open. When they do open they spawn easier mobs. If left unchecked they send out invasions that are mostly filled with none elites that can be taken down solo or with a couple people. If an invasion is allowed to take over a quest hub it will be transformed in a foothold that's also scaled to the amount of players In a zone. Te short answer is if noons is in the zone the entire thing is soloable and if no one clears them in two or so hours they all de-spawn.
So.. lets say nobody is in a zone for a while does that mean the invasions will take over all of the quest hubs? Or can only the non-town hubs be taken over?
From what I understand there is a time limit. So after 2 hours or whatever, the invaders will disappear.
This is true. I believe the time limit is scalable. I've seen footholds last many hours during one Beta and only a couple in another. I think that's a balance thing Trion has been looking at.
If it's the same that means there isn't any better.

I always like to respond to the people who wish companies harm in kind, that they get the same in return. I dont care for the comments this king person stated, so lets all hope they go bankrupt too, just like they are wishing upon the company. All is fair right, eye for an eye type of thing. Maybe a nice sidewalk under a bridge or something, a 3 year old torn coat that hasn't been washed in the same amount of time, and a cardboard box to hold thier stuff. Dont see how that is wrong to ask for is it, afterall thats what this person is wishing for an entire company and everyone who works for them. Honestly, he should be ashamed of himself.

How do you put EQ1 with any of those?. Unless you mean the modern EQ1, and not oldschool EQ1 before they started putting fluff after WoW's release.
IMO Rift looks like a good MMORPG, but i've never had a shred of interest in it, because I can see that it's the tried and tested mmorpg forumala that I am completely burnt out on. Nothing wrong with that, especially seeing as they are mixing around a few new elements, I will give them credit for that.
I am however pretty hyped for SWTOR and will probably check that out because I loved the KOTOR series and bioware games in general so I'll probably have a blast.
