Ok before I say it , Rift I'm sure will do well to a certain degree for the audiance intended I think they have done a real good Job polishing this game and If i remeber they slated this game as " we not doing anything revolutionary but we taking the best from many MMO's and bring it together"...not a direct quote, I also think the Devs have been really savvy in the market , with the ...." We cant beat them so lets join them" attitude.

WoW Clone .... holy moly.

I've been playing MMo's for over ten yrs and despise people that use this term I feel its usually unfair and unjustified but feel usualy the people dont know any better.

In the Rift forum I feel its holy justified , yes i know theres some warhammer there ect ect and yes there skill Soul system is new to a degree, but honestly I was playing a rogue and between the skill , the 5 point special build up and those tool tips flashing up and world backdrop I honestly felt I was about to cause paradox in time between Rift and WoW and go into meltdown.

This is very basic and in a nutshell collection of my experience to lvl 28 but dare i say it, was borderline cookie cutter stuff which honestly I thought was a myth in the MMO Genre.

6/10 ( Cert 5-10yr olds no PG required ), for the fact that Wow and Warhammer do there thing alot better in there prime but combined and mixed up into Rift this is my verdict.

Not knocking this game... well little, as I say in first para , this game was good for what it set out to do however basic it maybe.

P.s before anyone starts getting on there high horse and slapping me down , i'm talking about the game not you , If you found a game you love I envy you, one doesnt relfect on the other.

I also love how all the warriors and scouts use the same combo system. (just like the Rogue in WOW).

It's easy to make 32 classes when 16 of them play exactly the same.

Not sure why you insist on rehashing the troll posts on the Rift forums like this one. 16 souls do not play exactly the same. Your just making stuff up for the sake of drawing in people to fight with. They aren't classes, there are only 4 classes - called callings in Rift. There are 9 souls per calling - 36 total. Each combination ends up completely different depending on how you combine them and spend the points in that particular build. That is how it works. The only way for you to make the statement above is if you never actually played them in the first place. But I dont really have to assume that, since in previous posts by you, you stated that you logged in seen the combo system and logged out. So by your own valition, you have no real knowledge of how Rift soul system works.

Watch out its attack of the clones, look up the word it means an exact copy, rifts isnt an exact copy of anything. Neither is any other game but they take certain parts from other games sometimes. And I get so tired of seing those three letters WOW it makes me sick.

My tought exactly.  When you start looking at these trees, the abilities have different names and icons but they do exactly the same thing.  What a joke.  This game could have 128 classes it would'nt matter.

Hey another thread making hyperbolic statements about Rift ... that's new.

  • Argo951Argo951 Member Posts: 123

People that make these stupid threads should just get banned, its getting old now. YES, any moron with cataracts can see Rift has a lot in common with WoW - but these same morons cant see the commonalities between WoW and other games. WoW took what was good from other games, mashed them together and people soon got over that, its about time the same happens for Rift.

If you don't like it, don't play it.

Edit: I also love how they blindly ignore what Rift does differently (and better) than WoW. Oh fan boys, you make the internet a worse place to be.

What makes Rift different? I haven't see anything like that yet. As far as I can tell, it seems to be a mish-mash of WoW and Aion.

So WoW is a EQ clone, and Rift is a WoW clone. Being that makes Rift a copy of a copy, are the pages getting blurry?

Maybe it's not something that one can put one's finger on.

Example. I have no desire to play WoW in earnest. Never really did but always log in just to see some changes, have a bit of fun for a short bit, etc. Recently a friend started playing wow and loves it so I made a character on his server to level with him a bit. It's for fun and I'm enjoying myself on some level but it doesn't really do it for me.

Yet, I like Rift far more, plan to preorder and am really "jonesing" to get into the game "for real". I have had more fun in Rift then I have ever had in WoW.

    So you tell me?

    It's not WOW.....and that's enough. :)

So what the hell is that supposed to mean? I played WOW for 6 years and now a new game comes along and I like it.

I have been around MMO's a lot longer than you (I can promise you that) and I know what I like to play and you and your stupid cartoons will not affect that at all.

Maybe you are just jealous that many of us have found a game we like and you haven't.

    hahahaha

You see,you are not an mmorpg player, you are a wow player looking for wow 2.0 with better graphics.

its a wow clone? thats funny because i hate wow but enjoy rift. maybe you havent got passed lvl 6 like most of the people who created  wow clone threads.

  • xcutionrxcutionr Member Posts: 63

I think all rogues kinda play the same way, stealth, sap, backstab. And if you don't want to play that style of rogue you really have that option in Rift. Thats the great thing about Rift you can completely personalize your character. Try playing around with the soul system there are a ton of options. Unlike what some people believe there just wont be one cookie cutter build for pvp or pve.

    Agreed.

The assassin soul and combo points are obviously copied from WoW's rogue mechanics, but otherwise their rogues play like rangers and rogues in a great deal of other MMORPGs do.

Its really annoying that WoWplayers still coming up with their clone stuff. Trion did just the same as Blizzard did with WoW. Copy the good parts of previous mmorpgs and get them polish/expanded.

It's funny that in mmorpgs people always have to whine about clones, while in other genre of games I haven't seen such things...:p

Anywayz, WoWplayers have always something to complain, even their game isn't 100% polished...

Fantastic point!   I also has to play the game long enough to find the things I liked about it that make it a refreshing change.

OMG you hold the right mouse button and move to rotate the camera!  WoW clone!

No. . WoW stole that from Terminator: Futureshock!

And you are an arrogant troll.

Not an MMO player. So let's see years in EQ, EQ2, SWG, COH, COV, DAOC, LOTRO, Fallen Earth, etc... Nope I guess I have not played MMO's since 2002 or so. I guess I never had max level characters in EQ or DAOC back when there were hell levels, and skill loss and corspe expiration.

You are so wrong and I promise you I am more on an MMO player than you ever dreamed of.

What you do not understand is that gamers evolve and I am at a point where I could not play an EQ or DAOC again so newer, more approachable games appeal to me now. Of couse that goes back to maturity and responsibility and growing up....something you will never understand.

And i played during the NA launch of Nexus, then lineage 1 for 3 years, lineage 2,UO,FFXI,DAOC,EQ,etc.

    But that's not the point.

You played DAOC,probably a top 5 in the history of mmorpgs, would you say wow is better?

Of course not,but yet you say you have "evolved",no,you just want easier games.

I can't play so many hours like 12 years ago,but it's not an issue for me,im perfecty fine playing a game which takes 3 years to reach max lvl, others need easier games with instant gratification.

Different tastes,i never said i was better than you.

Guys I think all the OP is trying to point out is that this method of creating an MMORPG has not at the core changed since EQ and that after so many years a system that auto targets and allows you to simply press 1 - 10 on the keyboard to use skills is getting boring. At least for him. I crave evolution. I crave difference in the MMO market. That's why we need to support developers that are thinking outside the box. Look at Darkfall. Look at Mortal online. Both use a FPS style combat system truly different from EQ. It's games like those that require skill to aim and so forth I choose to take part in. I'm done with cookie cutter shit. It bores me. Doesn't challenge me mentally. I like to think while I play, not drool as I follow the path already laid out for me

    Just my two cents

    1. I'm tired of the fantasy genre

    2. ...I guess that would be it.

    Currently Play: ?

I think the correct response to these comments about Rift being a "WoW clone" or "Rift is a lot like Wow" is "So what?" If your having fun thats all that matters. But if you try to deny that they are very similar your head is in the sand.

Its not about ease or instant gratification, its about tastes change and life changes. When I played DAOC, I was in college and had all the time in the world. I could go grind mobs at a spot for hours on end or wake up at 4:00am for a keep raid.  I had all the time in the world.

Now I am married, have a child and ork 10 hours a day. I have, at most, 2 hours a night to play so I like playing games where I can get something accomplished. In DAOC, it took 2 hours to find a group and find a grind spot. Also going AFK every 15 minutes to help with the baby wouldn't be a good thing either.

I think DAOC was the highpoint of MMO's. And i mean pre-Trials of Atlantis so old school DAOC. Is WOW better? Nope, its just different and it appeals to where I am at in my life right now. And the same goes Rift.

    Finally.

So you agree, western mmos are made for casuals?
