Aion & flight pvp... that is a pretty meager argument you have there.

War had PQ's for one, as well as its completely own take on pvp (which admittedly did not work).

Tabula Rasa had the out posts which could be invaded by npc waves from drop ships & taken over, & the character cloning system was very original.

Have you played TERA? targeting could end up like AoC for all anybody knows

Aion pvp flight... you seriously gota do better than that

Name a recent "innovative" eastern MMORPG.

    Don't worry, i'll wait.

I have to agree with the OP about Trion though, they seem to have their heads on straight and I sincerely hope for the success of Rift. It has a ton of potential as well.

    Aion,flight pvp.

    Tera,no auto-aiming.

Recent western mmos,,AoC,War,Lotro, all the same crap.

    No auto-aiming?

Age of Conan. Tabula Rasa. Auto Assault.

Aion is all you have? Really? Another quest based MMO? Quest quest quest quest until the mid 30's, grind. Then roam around and gank. You can PvP on the Z-axis now, but I guess that's innovative to you. How sad.

You are probably just a noob that thinks because you kill mobs without a quest having to tell you to do so, it's somehow more difficult or less handheld.

You have no basis for argument. In any of these threads.

Aion has flight pvp, that is new.

Age of conan combat is a lie,and casters don't have anything new.

    Tabula rasa is from NCSOFT,lol.

In Tera you have to aim your skills and spells, another innovative mmorpg.

FFXIV,player driven economy, you can play gatherers and crafters as real classes, just like the warriors and mages.

There is no way you can argue this, the eastern market trys to innovate, the western market keeps making wow clones.

    This was too easy,try again.

Let's face it there is nothing truly new in MMO land they all mimic each other to some extent, it's how they implement and pace these concepts that either make games fun (subjection) or a grind/not fun (subjection).

If you are looking for MMO's that are truly new you'll be looking for a long ass time I'm afraid, with the largest player in the market being the biggest absorber of ideas/concepts WoW (the Borg of the MMO world) is the biggest copycat out there, everything else will be compared to it.

    ...

    This^.

    {Mod Edit}

Games that took risks like TCoS and Darkfall are niche MMOs for a reason.

I'm excited for both Rift and GW2 because they are moving me away from the solo quest grind experience into something more social. When you see other players then IT IS A GOOD THING.

I've preordered Rift. I will buy GW2. I've no doubt both will do extremely well.

I've been thinking about it and I've come to the conclusion that I don't give a shit. I really don't care if rift has 5 million or a 100k subs. As long as I have a medium pop or higher server to play on and Trion makes enough money to continue to develop patches and expansions I don't really care. They really don't need that many subs to do that.

    Playing: Rift, LotRO
    Waiting on: GW2, BP

That's a nice dream, but it wouldn't happen.  In the last few years we have had quite a few different MMO games that are very different from WoW released.  Darkfall, Mortal Online, DCUO, and Fallen Earth to name a few.  Then there are upcoming games such as Xyson and Earthrise that aren't following the WoW route.

These are all low budget titles, and very, very niche. Unfortunately, it's all we're going to get until there's an underground hit that didn't cost 30 million + to make.  If Rift, GW2, Tera, and TOR all fail (all games that should be successful on paper) then investors are not going to start putting their money into even riskier game designs, they're going to stop investing in the genre entirely.

Investors are always looking for something to spend money on, and if you can convince them there is a profit to be made... they'll shovel over the cash.  The only real difference is that investors will do better research on their investments instead of doing these get rich quick schemes based upon WoWs success.  Thats one of the main reasons there are so many WoW clones, because uninformed investors put pressure on companies to make their games in that mold.

So yes, you will see less low-quality MMOs, but high quality developers that inspire trust in their products and have a good reputation will have no problems what-so-ever.

If there is one thing the MMO industry needs, its less quanitity and more quality.

It will at launch.  I havent seen the endgame, so I can't predict how good it will be after month 2.

You can fly, that means you can reach places you could never reach swimming, are you serious or you are just trolling?

They are both the same in the fact that you can fight on a Z axis with the same movement speed and freedom that flying would give you, in an underwater zone the amount of places you have access to via swimming is equal to the amount of places you have access to in an above water zone via flying.

TL;DR   Swimming in undewater based zone = flying in normal zone.

I don't think there is too much worry about Rift being a success, it's just the degree of success that is the question. I honestly hope that they do well. Though I think that  a game needs to stand out, and be beyond what a players previous mmo's were to really hold a person. I think that people want to play a new game, not the same game with new paint. At least that is the case for me. I want to look back on the games I used to play and wonder how I enjoyed so little, and revel in the glory of the new game. I don't feel Rift has done this, but I do think that they will still get a good subscription base.  And like a previous poster stated, we don't need another failed mmo.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

Eh, I just pre-ordered the collectors today and in fact think it will do very well. I was one of the skeptics here (as many will recall ) and I have yet to play the game once. So yes, I beleive it will be just fine, those that don't beleive are those wanting something a bit more new and inovative. Nothing wrong with that , just have to wait another year, till then they will knock anything that isn't what they want. I get it, I don't bash a game unless it has a reason to be bashed (Darkfall anyone?) but beyond that, yeah, I am in it for the long-hull and have now met 10 people in RL doing the same (which in my friends list isn't huge, but still a good sign) joining a guild at launch and will be happy to play the game day one as a brand new game with no clue what I am doing :)

I know it's a clone of A,B,C etc, but in the end it seems to be the best of each part, in the end, isn't that what we all want? Eh I am all for SWTOR when it comes out and guild wars 2, but for now and the forseable future, I see no reason to not give rift a good try. Everything points to a good descent fun MMO, be it that is clones other games, most do anyways hate to say it.

So in the end , it will do great, hold a descent population and maybe even survive the release of SWTOR and others, I actually have given thought to the idea of keeping rift and doing those other games as well. Only time will tell thou, but enough honest fan opinions here with no hype just honest open (this is the way it is) Sold me on it.

I'm sorry you're blinded by your bias that East > West, but you're actually just wrong.

Your so called "Flight PvP" was led by about 5 years by City of Heroes. A player driven economy with gatherers and crafters as classes was done by Vanguard (if you don't count UO which was classless, but meets the criteria), and it also had a completely different non-combat class. Sadly yes, no auto-aiming has already been mentioned.

The fact is Eastern developers themselves have admitted that their development style is stagnant and uninspired; needing a major overhaul to ensure it has a brighter future. While I admit pretty much all MMO releases have been crap (especially recently), there really is no use dividing them into Eastern or Western and saying one has been better than the others. If you did, however, talking points would not be that Eastern MMOs are innovative and "the future". It would be more like Eastern MMOs don't even understand basic UI design.

Actually Anarchy online, almost 10 years old MMO has a "trader" and "engineer" class who are also warriors but are at the same time only one who can craft complex materials.
