Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Let's be realistic

Realistically consider how much work this game still needs to be anywhere remotely even survivable in this economy and dog eat dog market?

Way better games, with way better content, and way deeper pockets backing them have had thier plugs pulled simply because they were no cost effective.

Hosting and supporting a finished game is not cheap, developing an unfinished unplayable game while hosting the game is way way way more expenisve.

The reality of the situation is, there just is not enough money and there never will be.

All you handful of guys buying this game are doing is throwing good money after bad, you may be delaying the inevitable, but not by much.

If the management could face the fact they failed and admit it to the investors then we could get this dead dog in the ground where it belongs and everyone the devs, the managers, the investors, the players could move onward and foreward.

Problem is the management is not willing to do that for any number of reasons.

I remember one game that did this where it turned out the manager had taken a loan against his home to float the game, he knew the game was fail but sold it anyway to get the money to pay off the loan on his house then he pulled the plug.

I bet this is going to be the same kinda deal, there just is no other answer simply because the numbers just are not there.

Sorry guys but thats the truth and realism of the situation.

10, 20, 100, 1000 people buying this game just are not going to be enough to get it where it needs to be.

I have a feeling you're right about this game... People are getting real tired of gamebreaking bugs and shit after games like MO, and I don't think they'll stand for it as much now.

I think these developers are in for a rough time.

Hosting is not that expensive really. Having said that the I agree they are not likely to sell and retain enough people to keep on a crew a fraction of the 70 odd crew they are rumored to have on the team now.

Well I played it and I am in total agreement with the op. If this game doesn't fix many of its bugs by the end of the first month, it will be game over for them. I can not in good faith put any of my money towards this game in its current state and I have been DIEING for a scifi mmo and a sandbox one at that.

Me too, not sure why it is but so many of the potentially great sci-fi mmos belly up or never even make it into production.

I loved AO bugs and all, but it just got so old and tired. Really need something new to and decent to fill that need, was praying for stargate but well that didnt work.

Kinda like what Trion is doing with the Syfy channel that may turn into something awesome especially if RIFT takes off and turns a good profit for them.

I tested the game for over 20hrs. I didn't get many bugs. Maybe its the way I played (didn't fast travel at all) but the only problems I had were stability and the fact there wasn't a quick turn around (to prevent jump kiting while firing).

IVe never seen such flamefest about any MMO launch, which tells you alot about state of this game. I dont believe even Dark and Light  (first major failed MMORPG) even got so much flame prior to release.

Which is what I dont understand. Sure the game have a few bugs, but nothing I havent seen in a dussin other MMORPGs. The game is deffinately playable, and I didnt have much trouble when I was playing. Sure a little FPS problems, but really? Did you expect fluent gameplay from an indie developer right of the start... kinda naive, considering that has never happened.

Earthrise is of to exactly the start I thought it would have, no better, no worse. Its what they do from here on that will decide if they will slowly grow to success or just slowly decay.

    OP is bordering on slander.

Pfft a good round of drinks costs more than this game.

Based on what I saw in beta, the game has potential, I may buy it in a weeks time, have not decided yet.

Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76)
Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe
