These posts are always so amusing. So full of unchecked lofty idealism, you just wish you could be there when they stop the freefall and hit the pavement.
Not saying Rift is bad, got a pre-order myself, but its still derivative at a point. If the class system and Rift events weren't actually that fun, I wouldn't even consider the game.
Rift gameplay is standardized, but so is basically every codified genre's games, so no foul here.
Rift graphics are much more system intensive and is no where as optimized for broad-spectrum users as WoW.
Rift UI is good. Clean layout, good ammount of built in info and arrangement options.
Rift Lore is kinda a joke, being from Generic-Sci-Fantasy-Universe-12 and all. And a lot of the voice over is craptastic.
If you want to see things not to like from the outside, there's plenty, so don't worry, haters can hate all day long.
But the class/Rift mechanics are that cool for me. Sure, the presentation of the class system is standard, its effects/depth is definitely something fresh to use with the classic class-structured game.
Having a means of supported group PvE to complete from roughly lvl 6 to lvl cap is nice. I can just log in, find the nearest public group, and I'm set for a while, earning comparable items to whatever I'd be getting through pure questing.
It's got merits, it's got faults, and it's going to find it's own audience. It's not gonna be some juggernaught, but it's not going to just face-plant.

Well I wont say stop saying this WoW killer stuff but will LOL. Rifts an ok game its just we all seen most of this in the many games that have come before. If a company really wants to do something new they need to start from scratch and make the game completely behind closed doors with out a open invite to beta. This way when it comes out its fresh and new.
I personally think the MMO-gaming world just isnt in it anymore for the ture aspects of the mmo but more for who can make the most money off there title. But in my opinion Rift might do big but wont top WoW cause Blizzard will kill its own game with time. Most people want something new and fresh not recycled to death game. See AoC had a good concept but to small of a game then Darkfall could of been the next best thing if it was not such a niche game, even DDO was in a class of its own but again to confined of a game to really do what the players wanted in a D&D game open world. But all these games are ok not great or the best. So if a company come along and makes a WoW killer its going to have to be one hell of a title with open world no instances no zoning at all and huge. I mean 4x to 5x bigger then any mmo released before it. And completely diverse in character creation and development that it dwarfs all others. If a company did this and had a questing system never before seen and not the routine norm quest's then yes it might just happen till then most companys will ride the norm train till mmo's become a fading part of the genre kinda like sports games. Theres a million sports games and every year 20 more come out that say there better then the year before but there really no different maybe just little tiny changes and graphic update.
So to all you this game will kill WoW it's just not going to happen it might put a tiny dent in it but it wont kill it or anything else. And it wouldnt surprise me to see something similar added to WoW that copys the rift system for there next update they are famous for taking the best stuff from an mmo and adding it to there own. But we will see. As for me I cancelled my pre order for this cause it does not fit me type of game I enjoyed the beta there was not very many bugs or issues I could find its a very polished game and runs real good for what it is. Other then my own issues with it being same old same old.

As a huge Rift fan and former avid WoW player i will say this. Rift is good. It is very good. In fact, with luck, good management and the right expansion/patch material, Rift may even directly compete with WoW. But it will not 'Kill' WoW. It perhaps may draw even with WoW's numbers in, 2-3 years (Assuming newer games don't crush them both) but WoW will never die. Just like EQ still isn't 'dead' If the servers are still live, and theres at least 200 or so people online, then the game is not dead.
For people who hate it, WoW is just like the evil character from a horror movie...it just...won't...die. Ever.

Just like some of the bosses in Rift, I mash buttons 1-4 constantly, but it just won't die.
Some hate the current crop of mmos, can still like the genre for what it is at it's core. It's a great game for you, for me and many other it's a boring recycle.
I will give Rifts the benefit of the doubt that it is a good game. However, it order to be a "wow" killer it has to be more than just a good game. I think EVE Online is an awesome game. I think that Champions is better than DC online. I think Pirates of the Caribbean is also pretty cool also. However, WoW is more than just a good game. It is an entire industry. There are 12 million people that play WOW. That is a huge market share. Just because you got game doesn't mean your taking home the prize.
Currently Play: ? Occasionally Play: Champions, Pirates of the Burning Sea, WOW, EVE ONLINE
I love to see the responses to the "WOW Killer" phrase. All of you are classic.
Not as much as we like to see the "WOW KILLER!!!11!11one" threads I'm sure. Rift will briefly make a small dent in WoW which will then heal after a couple of months when people realize Rift is in fact not a WoW killer but just another WoW pretender.
But hey, enjoy your new game, glad you like it.

My favorite Genre is MMO's but theres 10 to 20 released almost every month world wide for the last 3 years so the mmo's genre is flooded right now with mmo's and theres mmo's that have a higher sub count then blizzard but they arent bragging about it ethier PWI states they have 50 million AQworlds says it has 16 million I can go on but wont. As for this being the top dog no sorry its another mmo pretty much like all the others before it from UO til now. Rift might be good but alot of players all feel the same way we see this game as the same old game we have been playing for the last 12 yrs to 13 yrs not some fresh new super mmo. This game use's all the elements from almost every mmo before it cleaned it up and thats it. So to put it simple its the same as all the games out now. And no I was not an avid WoW player I played it off on and on for 3 years after Wotlk I couldnt bring myself to play it anymore cause all they did was add a new area and cata is not all that much more than a recreated world for you to play in with changed land scapes and some new same old quests as before.
So again Rift is good its just not that great. If your a mmo player then I say give it a try with a 14 day free trial when they have it then decide from there. If you beta tested it to just play it not test it then make your choice off that but dont go running around saying you lnow this will be the end all be all to the top or should say near top ip right now. Cause not everyone feels WoW is top.

I hardly ever post, but I have been reading and listening on here for many years. When I saw this, I had to pitch my 2 cents. While Rift is a good game, I do not believe it to merit the term "WoW Killer". If any game could merit such a title, I believe it would not only have to beat World of Warcraft in both popularity and statistical population to prove truth, but also be innovative and one of a kind in every way.
A perfect game that holds the innovation in truth is Guild Wars 1. The skill system was unheard of, being able to mix and match 8 skills to your heart's desire and almost to the point of making your own custom built class. The gear was for the most part was a step up, where end game statistical difference was very minimal from Prophecies all the way to Eye of the North. The leveling, up to just 20, truly eliminated the tedious leveling process so many longed to do without. I could make an entire list of all the one of a kind ideas this game implemented. I encourage you to take a look at the game yourselves if you haven't already, and do an honest analysis of the innovative ideas that were brought into that game. Ideas that step into an entirely new direction from everything else that's been released in the past 5 years.
This is why if I had to anticipate any game being released in the next 3 years to merit the term "WoW Killer", it would have to be Guild Wars 2. This game is not only retaining many of those innovative ideas from their first release, but adding an entire new arsenal of new ones. As far as population and populatiry, I believe it is the majority who are looking for just that, which is why I mention this in the first place.
I DON'T CARE! if its a WOW KILLER... I think all this discussion about a potential wow killer is pointless, and I think gives too much credit to wow itself... people should FORGET about wow for a minute and just answer this simple question: are you having fun? Thats the main reason for a mmo to get subs, for people to play them...
Sometimes people are just too clouded on their opinions, no wonder some devs dont listen to them..

One of the biggest disappointments I had with Rift was the soul system. I expected the different talent trees to be a combination of different classes, like what they did in GW. I just can't get excited about having a healer that can choose from 3 different healing trees when I've played a game where my healer can also cast a meteor shower.

Let's start by saying that I am a HUGE BLIZZARD fan. An avid WOW player for years and many other MMO's. I know, I know it has been said many times before that this game or that game will take down the behemoth that is WOW. Well Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls it has finally arrived. May we introduce the WOW killer.....RIFT. Yes WOW fanboys and non fanboys when you take a step back to look without your WOW goggles on, RIFT is everything WOW is and more. Rift's gameplay is superb, the graphics are fantastic and the UI is fabulous. Rift's lore is already starting out robust and the community in the betas has been great. Only time will tell but if WOW is a 7 or 8, RIFT is a 10. You would be doing yourself a disservice by not playing the heck out of RIFT. I have officially cancelled my WOW sub and am now a RIFTER! Thank you TRION WORLDS you have done it! Now do not let us down in the coming years. It is all there for you to become the premiere MMO Devs. Good Luck.

Not knockin on your post here, just pointing out somethign you said I find very interesting. The fact that in order to be better than WoW, you require it to do something even WoW never did, "be innovative and one of a kind in every way". Why not just say it does everything WoW did, but better?

No game kills another game, UO is still going, WoW didn't kill EQ1 or 2....
Sony, now thats different, they have been known to kill some stuff
I just hope that if I end up enjoying the game, that enough people play on the pvp servers to keep development going, and for Trion to make money, if thats 200k, I don't care what any other game has for subs, as long as things develop and get done.
If someone would buy Vanguard and develop it, and bring back pvp servers, I would probably go back in a heartbeat, but I refuse to sit around on a dying game that 0.5 developers work on, when its their lunch break....and Sony promised a relaunch and never did it.....So I refused to feed them my money anymore.
Got to love these threads made by people with < 10 posts saying how great RIFT is! and is the second coming!. Dont get fooled by these paid Shills. Played the beta and was bored out of my mind.
