I really hope Rift does NOT pick up the number of subs that WoW has, that is exactly why the community there sucks big ones. And to all the people here claiming they KNOW Rift isn't a great game because they played it until someplace under level 20......pahlease, sit down and shut up already really. You haven't scratched the surface of the game yet, your still in the newb zone - Goldshire anyone?!?!
Ok, ok, ok you can say "well how far do I have to play to know I hate it", the answer is you dont even have to play it to find that out. Either your open minded and willing to try something out, really try it out before passing judgement, or your not. If you walk into a new five star resturant and order a cheeseburger, then proceed to tell everyone the food sucks there....well, your one of THOSE people and nobody can discuss anythign with you anyway, so I'm not about to try either.
Rift is not going to be the single WoW killer, but its a start towards it. WoW has already begun to kill itself with Cataclysm as predicted. Even the hardcore fanbois of WoW are becoming burnt out on it now because the shine is wearing off the new gift wrapping. And since that is happening, more and more of WoWs base are looking elsewhere, Rift just happens to be one of the places they can go and jump right into without much effort. And as more and more games come out like TERA, GW2 and Archage come out over the next year or two you will see less and less of the market share owned by WoW.
The end is the same though, Blizzard has already started the WoW killer campaign all by themselves. Its just a matter of time for the numbers to trickle off to other places. Rift is only one of many to come to pick some of them up. Argue it all you want, thats just the truth of it.
Ah, another 'play it to level XX and then it's awesome' post.
No. Why should I? I played over several betas into the late teens and it was an ordeal to stay connected to this game. So no, I know it's not for me. I knew that within a couple of hours of playing it. The whole 'but it's the newbie part' is bunk.
EQ was fun at level 1 and I stayed for 2 years. AO was fun at level 1 and I stayed for almost as long. DAoC the same. Same for WoW and EQ2. All were fun from level 1 in the 'newbie' areas. All had a connection and immersion that drew me in. Rift just left me apathetic.

Back on topic.. WoW killer? Nope. Not even close.
EQ,AO and DAoC were fun at level 1 because MMO's were new and fresh. Rift is fun in spite of MMO's having been around awhile.
But i do agree WoW killer, Nope
The following statement is false The previous statement is true
Let's start by saying that I am a HUGE BLIZZARD fan. An avid WOW player for years and many other MMO's. I know, I know it has been said many times before that this game or that game will take down the behemoth that is WOW. Well Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls it has finally arrived. May we introduce the WOW killer.....RIFT. Yes WOW fanboys and non fanboys when you take a step back to look without your WOW goggles on, RIFT is everything WOW is and more. Rift's gameplay is superb, the graphics are fantastic and the UI is fabulous. Rift's lore is already starting out robust and the community in the betas has been great. Only time will tell but if WOW is a 7 or 8, RIFT is a 10. You would be doing yourself a disservice by not playing the heck out of RIFT. I have officially cancelled my WOW sub and am now a RIFTER! Thank you TRION WORLDS you have done it! Now do not let us down in the coming years. It is all there for you to become the premiere MMO Devs. Good Luck.

Well truth be told its his own opinion. They won't kill wow but this game will do very very well. I mean they basically have the formula that caters to the masses. I personally love the game. It combines all the best aspects of past games and polishes the crap outta them just like blizzard. But seriously the only thing that can kill wow is blizzard pulling the plug on it.

This is the most important statement in this thread and explains to anyone with half a brain how bad rift actually is.

One thing I have noticed about the MMO community... it is full of stale, grumpy, people who should've left the genre half a decade ago
