Hey everyone,
After years of playing World of Warcraft, I've decided to look for a new game that features several things.
The most important thing to me, as the title suggests, is deep class customization. I want to be able to make my character fit my playing style and not have it be identical to thousands of other characters.
The other thing that I'm looking for but is not completely necessary are good PvE options. When I say this I'm thinking dungeons and raids mostly, as well as grouping for quests.
Thanks for taking the time to read!

A game you might want to consider is Rift. It has an ascended soul system that lets you pick from three different "souls" in the class to combine them into something that would fit your role. You get a couple points per level and you can do a hybrid of all three or focus on one branch in your tree. The game has a lot of combos so you shouldnt see everyone around with the same layout also the pve seems to have a lot of options you can farm "like every game" you can also join rift battle or get teams together for dungeons. i know the game has raids but i cant really give information on that yet.
anyways thats just a game you might want to look into im not trying to sell you on it but it "appears" to have the things you want
lol rift has deep customization? what you have been smoking?
guildwars have one of the best skill customization ever. not the char appearance ofcourse.
Check Rift for sure. It's still in beta and beta is free so nothing to lose!
One person's deep is another person's shallow.
Goodluck.

Well first i would like to point out that no where in my post did i say it had deep custimization i merely stated things about the game and said that it appeared to have what he was looking for.
Nice try with the childish remark i guess but i also need to remember what forum this is.....
Class customization doesn't get much deeper than DDO. Do yourself a favor and check it out, it's F2P with a subscription option for more content.

I would say EVE, but technically, you can do anything in that game with the one character. Sure you may have to customize the first year, after that, the flood gate opens for ideas. All you need is time.
All of the new games offer 3 specs. Then you have to go on the forums and read which one is the good one and which of the 2 are worthless. At least they can say they have specs to offer. But we all know that you can only use one of them from each class.
Maybe look to older games? I am.
Check out RIFT especially if you are coming from WoW.
Also Guild Wars has great depth but is getting on a bit now and you would not have the intended experience starting a new character thesedays but still great.
I think hes looking for an MMO, GW doesnt make the grade
I agree with the Rift comments. Rift classes are really interesting in the sense you can fulfill many roles in the group (and even be hybrids).
Clerics can tank/heal/DPS.
Warriors can tank/DPS.
Rogues can tank/support/DPS.
Mages can dps/support.
and while usually the trinity is true to their traditional classes, all of the above work. Rift is nothing new, but the classes are worth exploring to be honest. If you want to take a step away from WoW, but not make it a huge leap into some classless/levelless game, rift is for you.
Deep character customization? I suggest you play Cardmon Hero since it has a very unique game system.
Ok, so first off, you can summon a lot of monsters/allies using cards. Each of them have different skills and abilities, so the combination of strategy is very open there. For the character, you have stats which can determine what items/weapons you can equip.
Different weapons use different Skill Cards (yet another very customizable thing). You can even change weapons simply by resetting your stats and buying new skill cards!
Then there's a class system which affects the kinds of armor you can use, such as armors that let you be great at close range, have better skill cooldown, or even let you summon more monsters.
Basically, it's deep, but not as deep as Guild Wars where most stuff are situation-specific. So anyway, there you build your "deck"/skill+summon selection. Part of the fun there is collecting the monster and skill cards.
For now though, I'm maining Aika Global more (with Cardmon on the side) since I really love mass PvP. Not much customization in that game, but the 1000vs1000 PvP/War there is really fun.

Everquest 2 has alternate advancement and this helps to make the classes more unique. I also think guildwars with its limited number of spells/skills that you can put up and the ability to multiclass may be what you are looking for.
Guild Wars probably...
So many classes, skills and combinations.
Guild Wars definately. total 1300 skills from all classes and you have acess to all of them! You get primary class that you cannot change and you choose secondary class which you can change whenever you want.

DDO, hands down.
If you like spreadsheets (the notorious AD&D type) this is the game for customization. For the most points to put in skills you'd have at least 2 levels in Rogue (best to start for 2 levels in that class to get the most points). And you can multiclass with upto 3 classes.
The dungeons are pretty good, they come in various sizes to match your online play time. And they have a hireling service for those needing to level at inconvienent hours (like 4am in the morning...no need to wait for the weekend to play at normal hours).
