While I agree that FFXIV gets a bad rap sometimes for being somewhat non-traditional, you can't suggest Square-Enix is the victim of abuse by the gaming community at large.
No matter how much you love a company, they are, in the end, nothing but corporations that are trying to make a profit and would gladly burn your house down to make one. Face it - the PC version of the game was completely unintuitive and was a bad port of the soon-to-be-released PS3 version. They don't deserve a pat on the back for that, they deserve honest and defined criticism, which an in-depth rating system like this site allows for.
Just because they're a cool company who, for instance, made my favorite game ever (FFVI), does not mean that they should be absolved of criticism.
I don't agree on the first part,i beleive the gaming comunity has become sort of trolls, and i absolutely hate using that term. What i have seen ,especially over the past 2-3 years is a lot of people that are fanbois of games that are not even out yet,and are trying to deface the value of other games in fear their beloved game might suffer,it is quite childish to be honest.
I am however one that did not like FFXIV,not because i think the game is horrible,i just found that it took great ideas from FFXI and made it worse, one example the ridiculous idea of removing the AH.
I truly believe a LOT of people have been posting negative comments that do not know a single thing about the game, they are just relaying what they hear from others.
One thing i said before FFXIV was barley a dream, was that FFXI used up soooo many ideas for design and classes, that i was afraid there was nothing left to explore.I saw this trend even in FFXI expansions, they were rehashing old maps and really coming up with very little good ideas.
FFXIV even attempted to take the exact same ideas from class in FFXI and just change the names a bit and move the spells/abilities around a bit,not going to fool anyone who played FFXI.This however would stil lcome across as a totally new game to anyone else.so no reason to complain.
In the end it comes down to how the majority of gamers play the rpg genre, and that large majority is former Wow players,as they take up the largest mass of gamers. They are completely used to superficial gaming, run from quest marker to quest marker and get all their xp and gear by doing so.This type of gaming does not allow the player to play his/her game, you are almost forced into a total linear design,Sqaure tends to steer away from that and the majority is not used it.
Bottom line is FFXIV is still a better game than most on the market, but i would not play a game that is inferior to my fave game FFXI,not unless it made some drastic improvements. As i see it FFXIV made literally NO improvements to ffxi,so in FFXI i stay until i find a better designed game.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
