A new launcher is out. The launcher has been improved for faster patching and now displays game information and updates.
The server and client have been patched out. We are working on setting up new servers that can handle additional bandwidth. Please be patient this week as we move to a new location.
Our current server location will undergo some maintenence this weekend between 10:00 PM Central US February 19 and 2:00 AM Central US February 20. I will announce when the servers are down for this.
Features and Revisions
- Special starter weapons are now available. These are bound to your character.
- Guides have been equipped with a few new commands.
Fixes
- Graphics have been optmized in order to reduce overheating of graphics cards.
- A few causes of client crashes have been tracked an fixed.
- Additonal blocking has been implemented for terraforming into rock.
Here are our plans for the next few weeks:
- Over the next few weeks we will focus on fixing and improving current game systems and review suggested changes.
- On March 1st we will reset the creatures with all current creatures in game. Other changes will be patched out over the next few weeks as they become ready.
- We are in the process of setting up new servers which should be ready by March 1st. This is an upgrade to our current servers to handle more traffic better. A trial server will be added as soon as possible.
- We have a new and exprienced coder joining us who will focus on combat and AI improvements. I look forward to expanding the team!
Most unfortunate, but not very surprising. In the meantime, what should one be doing to start out? I'm a newbie. It seems that I should find a place to put a homestead, and then build and craft/whatever? Trying to join a pvp tribe as well, so helping to build a fortress as a base of evil operations would be epic.
I think that, for a developer, one of the most stressful experiences during a release is also one of the most awesome experiences - that moment when you realize that everything is currently crashing because there's a flood of people anxious to get into your game.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
Please bear with folks. We're having trouble handling so many logins and downloads at once.
Our bandwidth is limited until we can move to a new server location. As soon as I saw the recent influx of new players we put in an order to move to new servers, but unfortunately our hosts have not been able to move us yet. This will happen before the official launch.
Today's early start for pre-orders is not going well and I apologize. There's not much we can do at this very moment, just bear through it.
It would help for players to get in and set up their totems and come back when things settle down.
Thanks for you patience!
I maintain this List of Sandbox MMORPGs. Please post or send PM for corrections and suggestions.
Can't stay logged in long enough to get through character creation. This in itself is turning into a mini game, I bet I can create a char quicker than anyone alive.

I understand that launch day is crazy for devs/servers... but how many games now have launch with severs to weak to handle the influx of players... lessons should be learn't go a bit overboard on the server specs... if you find you don't need that powerfull of a server after a few months, you can downgrade -- companies will let you do that...
on launcher day, top priority, in players eyes is usually server performance -- the crowds these days are very critical, getting bad rap because of poor servers, is not the kind of wrap a dev wants.

I'm in the same boat. Tried making a character twice, only to be half-done each time when the server crashed.
They are supposed to be moving to better servers, which should help. Through most of development, there were only a handful of testers ever logged on at one time. I wouldn't say that this game has ever really had a proper stress test.
See Devs, my point - if they are reading this and future devs, make launch as smooth as possible, even if the the game was bad, atleast one could say the launch was smooth.
Don't understand why is it obtainable to all of you. Thought prelude launch would be March 1 ?
Today shouldnt be officially "launch" day ??
However good luck to Xsyon guys. Its always good if more sandbox and indy choices exist and all of the WoW and companies like $OE dies already

Hmm.. it seems with something like a simple 2 day "open" stress test could have gave them the heads up on this before it became a "headstart" problem..
I know I know.. You all just think I am some asian freeloader who wants a free meal to spam my gold selling messages, but I assure you that a small stress test would have stressed the servers to let them know they would need more/better server strength under a somewhat heavy load..
it would have also helped some people make/break their minds about preordering..
But eh, what do I know.. I'm just a stupid asian goldspammer..

Not really. There is no benefit to the player to be in a stress test. Actually, because it is a 'stress test' less people are going to want to log in than in other betas. However with a release date - new beta, headstart, release day, etc - there is an incentive for players to log in and you will have a massive spike of players that often cannot be predicted.

Why did they even launch with a bad bandwith????
I understand that launch day is crazy for devs/servers... but how many games now have launch with severs to weak to handle the influx of players... lessons should be learn't go a bit overboard on the server specs... if you find you don't need that powerfull of a server after a few months, you can downgrade -- companies will let you do that...

Until now....
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Simply put, It's an unplayable disaster.
I'm used to bad launched because I played Darkfall and MortalOnline on launch day, but this is WORST!
Never trust a screenshot or a youtube video without a version stamp!
Ah well ...
My brand new bloggity blog.
See Devs, my point - if they are reading this and future devs, make launch as smooth as possible, even if the the game was bad, atleast one could say the launch was smooth.
Cut them some slack, they are an indy developers with, from what I understand, a very small team.
There are only so many places they can be.

You obviously haven't played Earthrise yet.
