Hey guys. I just picked up this game out of a love for that which is sandboxy. Minecraft, SWG, M&B were all games I enjoyed (still enjoy SMP) a lot and I'm sort of permanently getting sick of traditional MMO's.
Any one of you "vets" have any good tips to give to me (and other new players)?
He who keeps his cool best wins.

Watch you back , am serious \
the day i bought the game i was ambushed by this naked man and he pounded me with his fists of course i died at the tiem i didnt know how to activate combat mode :P.
press C and click left and right mouse button .most important thing to know once you land ingame .
im stuck here at character creation.
cant find any info on what stats server what purpose.
Not sure if this is a game where i can total mess up my character at creation...or if i can not add any stat points and wait it out untill figure out exactly what i want to do in game.
theres no alts in this game so im a bit nervous blindly adding points when im not even sure what purpose i want to have.
would distributing all the points evenly not wreck any options i have later on or what?
dude go on Xsyon site and there a manuel it will answer all your questions .

Join a Tribe it makes the fun goes ten times up and they will be able to help you with equip and tools
the list of tips is long and its good to watch some videos but one very common question is around food and water.
You do no die if you are thirsty and hungry and you can play forever without either. However, you slowly lose stats and your stamina runs low faster. When going out for combat or hauling stuff back food and water is very helpful
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Join a tribe. They'll show you the ropes and help you get integrated into the community. You can break off with them after you get your bearings if you wish, but I doubt you will want to.
In my palm I hold the world, in my hand I grasp it.
I loosened my fist but for an instant,
and thus I failed to clasp it.
My advice would be to sit down and play the game, but most importantly give it time. All too often I've come across players who log in, realise there isn't an NPC to greet them and decide it's too hard or complicated. The learning curve is steep, but it's not quite a vertical hill like some make out.
Last but not least, enjoy the experience - it's very different!
I think some good advice for anyone starting would be to choose basketweaving as a skill. Its very easy to jump into, you can craft storage bins which are a must, and some armor (although its grass armor) It also provides tools that can be used in tailoring. However tailoring requires an insane amount of storage, which basketweaving provides.
Also stay away from the hunting skill and bonecraft. There are just not enough animals in the game, and when you do find one, its probably a bear that will kill you. Very hard to get going with the hunter and bonecraft.
Also weaponcrafting is a pretty terrible noob skill to have, they require scavanged rare items, which are a pain to find.
Be aware (its on the xyson forums) which tools are given for which craft you choose, this is important, get two craft skills that affer totaly diffrent tools so you can start off witht he ability to make the most amount of stuff.
Be aware of you starter "weapon" as some are not weapons at all, some will work specificly well for certain crafts, so you may want to choose an item meant for a craft skill you dont have, so you at least have a tool towards it. A weapon might be the best choice however, make sure its a weapon. Theres no info when you select anything at character creation, its confusing, you need to read up on the forums while creating the character. Learn what stats effect what tasks and raise accordingly.
Also be aware theres a lot of secrets in the game, what stats gear have, what effect thing like how fat your character is or how skinny, or its size is all up for debate and a lot of things are kept as unknown. Dont get carried away with birthday and age, it does effect something but no one really knows as of yet all of its side effects.
Once you get in game, orient yourself, read the stickied map (pay attention to your zone number for this) then go find a spot to put your totem up (close to water and if you can, near a junk pile) asap then make a basket with grass you find, put everything you dont need in there, especially your tools. Use the foraging skill and fish, and drink lots of water. The resource button brings up an inventory like window, as you walk at the edge of water or over grass youll see an icon, right click to obtain that resource or drink the water. Stock up on food. then I suggest going naked (with your starter preorder weapon as its soulbound) and explore a bit, keep track of the zone numbers your in with the online map. Know your area and neighbors.
After that you should be good to go. make sure you stay very close to your toem (make a homestead using the tribe icon) when your figuring out stuff, getting ganked and looted right off the bat is terrible, since you will lose your very valuable tools (which you should never ever bring with you, leave them at home and use when crafting there)
Use this guide and youll get into the game with far less fustration and avoid a possible reroll.
Don't go into the green mist.
When you start out invest in hand to hand as your combat skill, HtH is currently a bit OP as it offers a stun chance.
If you see anyone equipped with anything that's not a starter item, run for your life, they're going to kill you.
Stay away from bears.
Don't hold on to anything you don't immediately need, meaning you don't have the tools or skills to make use of the items immediately. Extra weight slows you down and make you an easier kill.
If you enter a heavily populated area, loiter a bit to see what local chat is like before making any introductions. The decent tribes also attract bands of PKs preying on anyone that strays too far out.
That's all I got for now, only 3 days in.
you know what, hand to hand combat was destroying me and my supierior preorder weapon. wasnt aware of hand to hands stun chance, and they hit just as hard as my weapon did if i recall....good to know
