Stable Yet?

Now that me and a few buddies are no longer able to log in and enjoy DCUO,  we're kind of looking into getting into Xsyon,  but with the servers being unstable and the multiple wipes recently we didn't want to start the game with all of that going on.

Some other questions:

Originally I thought the game was slated to have permadeath, is that still an option?  I'm not sure that would appeal to us very much.

On the site it said that you could tame animals,  is that currently in game?

How long does it take to actually get anthing done here,  for example,  could me and another person craft say,  a camp in under an hour if we had all the materials and skills to do so?

I know the combat isn't exactly what I was looking for,  but I'm willing to toss that aside for a game rife with exploration.  Any other points you could speak about regarding the exploration,  or other high points would be ideal, too.

The last info I have is that devs are intentionally bringing the server down to test out if they fixed the bugs with disappearing items on server crashes. There will be at least one more complete server wipe. It's said that it'll be before March 1st, but no official date as to when.

I haven't heard anything about permadeath, as far as I know there's no permadeath in-game.

Animal taming is currently not implemented yet. Also most of the animals aren't implemented yet, it's said that they will turn on the rest animals and animal spawns on March 1st, but I wouldn't trust that date with everything that's been going on.

I haven't been building the camp or exploring much myself, so I can't really speak of those.

Id recommend it just so you can learn and get a feel for how things work in Xsyon so that come launch day youre not clueless while everyone else already knows where to go and what to do and claim the best land & resources way ahead of you.

For now (this may be changing) the system is setup so that a "good" aligned player can actually res where they died but "evil" players are respawned back at their totem (basically your claimed land for your tribe/homestead). There is stat degeneration for several reasons, as well as being loote dby other players who kill you.

On the site it said that you could tame animals,  is that currently in game?  I believe so, though havent actually tried it out myself. In the current state of the game the wildlife is pretty rare, but in the coming weeks with the launch starting up we should see more wildlife and stuff.

Well you can pretty much start crafting a pretty good variety of things (depending on your chosen craftin skills & tools during creation) as soon as you enter the game world. There is a Resources panel that allows you to interact with pretty much everything as youre running around. You can pick up grass, branches, sand, rocks, scrap metal, cloth, leather/furs, etc right from the start just by walking around and exploring. Just a suggestion, since youve got a buddy (or a few) to play with, choose some different crafting skills since specific skill sstart you off with several different tools that pertain to that skill. As an example, Weaponcrafting requires a lot of things such as wood handles, poles, etc  which you need a saw to make, but Weaponcrafting doesnt start you with a saw so youll want a buddy to go with Woodworking and then you can exchange materials/crafted items between eachother so you can both make new stuff. Without someone to get the wood stuff from, or at the least a hunter for getting you bone stuff, youre oing to have a very tough time making anything worthwhile with Weaponcrafting. It works out pretty similarly with all the crafts, its pretty tough to be a solo crafter without trading with others for materials you need or at the very least trading for (or creating your own) additional tools that you need to make materials outside of your chosen profession.

Its not a feature of the game, character age but sofar not known how old age be handled, I doubt it be perma death.

Animal taming is currently not in game, i dont think it will make the offical launchday (15th-mar-2011)

currently the type of animals is jsut 4.. :) at launch there will be 21 types.  it might take a while before they will enable us to tame them not sure how it fits in the game world plans.

How long does it take to actually get anthing done here,  for example,  could me and another person craft say,  a camp in under an hour if we had all the materials and skills to do so?

No camps tribes, on your tribal (5+ player)  or Homestead ground (1-4 player) you can build a ..tent..wall. dog a moat..wall..more  buildings  , basicly you can jsut keep it empty whit one little house type or build it full whit all kinda of buildings (premade)

The actual building of a item ( wall part, bulding ) takes less then 10 sec. the collection of the materials is what its about. you need cloth, a scavenger (anyone) can collect it of junk piles , you need to have many so you can make a tarp out of it. then you need to cut a tree ,  log the tree, bring th logs back to camp , make the logs into studs, scavage some nails and whatevr else the "blueprint" needs. and once  you collected it all you add it to the project and press -build-

The game world aint big yet, but big enoug to make you walk  for hours whitout comming near the spot you started from. it got some nice stunnign views (when its not winter uck...snow ruins every scene :P)

you must not be a i want to have everyting right now kind of player, smart enoug to read stuff on the forums and watch the youtube saintbob tutorials. havea  thick skin becource there will be people out trying to ruin your nice walk in the mountians. :)

Players have to understand this is asmuch a game as its a book.  the devs have a general chapter progression plan, prelude is chapter one and will last six to nine months (as far planning goos, and no it got nothing to do whit beta's)  a exsample of player infuence would be the feature that grandmastercrafters work whit the team to create a new item for the game. and thus are able to chance the way things go in the game. ..powercrystals ? ..steamengine? ..guns?  aslong it fits in the general plan for the game the devs will introduce -your- item in the game

Thanks for all the responses.  Been looking at this game for a while,  I think I'll end up pulling the trigger if my friends are still in.  Sounds like the game would be a lot of fun,  even more so when it is fully launched.  The two months of free play isn't bad either.

This game is definitely a lot more fun with friends. Enjoy.
