Its all about the new game server. Once they get that, and if it fixes all the issues they are having, then they wipe and do a final beta launch.
Im crossing my fingers that this new server will stop all the issues they are having, the new download server was suppose to do this, and it didnt. Right now they really dont know whats causing the crazy lag and instability...but then were on that old game server...who knows...
I believe they diabled teraforming today stating it was the cause of lag along witht the chopping of trees to a lesser extent
Hope not. Those are the two things I liked most about the game!
it says they disabled temporarily, to find the source of the lag... don't forget that important part.
And what would happen if that was the source? Would temporary change to permament?
Game lagged right on through the terraform disable.
It runs great when theres 50-100 players on. Like late at night, after peak hours.
Theres a fraction of the community still trying to play through this as well, lots of people are just staying off untill final wipe and launch. Still during peak hours it lagged, even with the download sever seperated (origional source they thought) and even with terraforming disabled.
Starting to think its not the servers but the code that is the issue...hope im wrong on that one...we get to find out soon when they switch to a new game server....if that doesnt work its going to really suck for the community.
Also, i just noticed they left themselves an "out" on the terraforming is causing the lag prediction. They said it was the terraforming and tree manipulation (such as chopping down trees and log piles ect) Im guessing tomorrows lag will be the trees fault and that will be disabled. Then perhaps a new reason when the game lags on though that disable.
Indeed, and this should be happening in the next couple of days - if not today.

Hope not. I think that the people hoping for a miracle fix because of the new server will be very dissapointed. Time and patience is required...which is asking a lot from this industry.
I can agree with this.

What little surprises will the new servers have when they bring them online.

I dont think this will be a problem...
It depends on how well the database is implomented, i would expect it to be done well enough to mean that only items within the zones are requested. same as only X items in X bag are requested when looking into a bag.
A zone is made up of squares and each square has values asigned to it. I guess that terriforming changes these values, which would have little effect on the overall size of data being requested.
The only increase in data requests would be from logging and gathering resorces which are stacked.. but again this will only effect each zone sepritly.. so I guess if you gather 1000000 small logs you may see a lag increase as they load.
This is only a guess since I dont know anything about the code used to make the game, or the database design
