Have to agree with the OP.

Xsyon, just like Perpetuum a few months ago, are sandbox style games with great core mechanics.

However, an extra 2 years of added content and polishing would have made them true winners .

I bought the pre order mainly to support this indie team, but imo this game is very much Beta at most.

That said, I'm a bit annoyed by some of the rather archaic and somewhat backwards design decisions.  For instance, eating, drinking, and resting are time consuming real activities.  Maybe it worked in the Sims, but I don't see it as being anything other than an annoyance in Xyson.

Secondly, the no map thing turns me off.  I like to think that a sandbox can give players tons of freedom and gameplay options without making it time consuming and entirely unfriendly to new players or those new to the genre.  I mean, even fellow indy sandbox Darkfall has maps as does Vanguard and modern Everquest.

sigh u dont evenknow what type of game u got do u. XYSON IS A WORLD BUILDER/SURVIAL GAME WITH FFA PVP THROWN IN. understand now. just from your post i feel that u read ffa pvp and auto preordered. cause most of the things u griping about are core componets to how the game plays.

1 it doesnt have maps. did cavemen have maps thats why u dont have one in here. u have to lean to remember terrain features like this rock here or this waterfall. its part of the survial part of the game.

2.eating and drinking its a surviaval game nuf said.

seems like xyson isnt the game for u since its not trying to copy other games but be its own game.

It's quite funny that many people criticize Rift being a Wow copy and many people criticize other games being different too.

What difficult balance is actually :)

I really want to thank everyone for expressing views about this game, I almost decided to not buy it. But I think I'm going to go through with it...

Well I guess hunting (that's equivalent to PvE in this game) is going to be a viable career too once they get those 40ish new animals as well as bows in game (should happen march 15th). Tho I read that some folks enjoy that kind of gameplay already.

Some of the more advanced crafting patterns I encountered so far require quite specific parts of specific animals so I guess being a good hunter able to find and take down a rare animal might turn out to be quite a lucrative playstyle.

You may well be correct, which is why I'm waiting until launch and will see what sort of animals are implemented.  When I played beta there were only 4, and they were few and far between.

Now the hunting for rare animal parts sounds good, until you realize that due to the FFA PVP nature of the game there likely will be no where you can safely sell your stuff.  It will be difficult to build a strong economy in a world where there's no where safe to sell your hard earned wares.

This is going to create another job in theory, "guards" or "mercenaries" . Traders, and the like are going to realize the importance of these supplies and hire guards to safely ensure they reach them. And even with a retarded player base people will try and attack and theres going to be people to defend.

Can you elaborate on the the survival part of the game that you mentioned in your mini pole, Sidfu?

The theory is good, just have never been in a game where this really worked.  If you take EVE for example, the economy in 0.0 is pretty bad, even the best market hubs are overpriced, players routinely haul stuff solo because no one really is interested in being hired to defend someone elses stuff, most escort runs are done by corps who are doing favors for their members.  Maybe Xyson will be different, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I was a very avid memember of a game called Face Of Mankind, and yes it did fail horribly due to a terrible dev team. It was  player driven though, the economy, the wars, the politics was all brought on by faction leaders or average joe players even. This is my prime example, "cells" would leave factions because of not agreeing with eachothers political ideals. It just created a completely player driven aspect, corporations would try and take control of planets for the resources. And even the faction i was in which was the miltary faction would intervene and stop or allow such actions from happening. So my theory is a very possible future "action" taken by players. I havent had the chance to play the game due to my tax refund taking forever to be deposited into my account lol, but when I do i'm going to push such actions. And I respect what you are saying, because it's not a very common thing to see. But all I can do is hope, and try my best to infulence Xyson myself.
