Doesn't seem like anyone cares that there are lower population shards. 20 FULL shards around peak (7:24PST/10:24EST) is a huge success. Now we just have to wait a month..
I ll leave at this. I know I m right when I say alot of servers will be barren in a few months. I know you won t agree with me, but I ll stand by it. In 3 months from the 4 th, bring up this post, if I m wrong i ll admit it. I just can t see it happening.
Well those servers are trully needed since all existing servers are already Full and with long queues and the game didn´t even come out yet in Europe....
I agree is not good publicity if they have to close some servers in some months...but in the other hand...you cannot have thosands of people waiting to get in game...
Some servers had 4-7h queues...imagine if you launch the game without opening more....
I´m trully enjoying game.... i just got lvl 25 and fun just skyrocked!! Invasions in Gloamwood are just amazing....
Werewolves taking cities.... it ´s just awesome !!
I would like to know how many players are need for the zone wides to kick in tonight just to check things out I ran around between silverwood, gloamwood, scarlett and scarwood for about 2 hours almost every zone had an event going in those zones at least twice for each zone. I am on a server that usually reads high at primetime and medium during the day and night, yeah I play way too much. Even if it's 50 players for a zonewide event that's quite a few just within one zone.

They go by concurrent. What we know from other MMO's generally concurrent a normal server can
hold 2.5k players. So we assume when we see full it has gone past that number.
That is 2.5k players spread through every zone/city. One thing to be noted. The EU servers
that say "recommended" are starting to say Medium.
I think as word about stability and end game being there you are going to start to see those
Except rift servers almost certainly are set lower than 2500 right now, that might be true once the population is spread out more but there is no way they were set that high right at release.
I don't know that the zone wide events are based on players in zone though, which I think was your question?
All they are doing is making sure that the po has some were to go, and not wait in a que. As time goes on there will be poeple that will leave and people that will come in, Rift is the next best thing to EQ and wow so thats were they are draw there base from.
From the way I look at it. We should be looking at the pop numbers for april thats when the subs start. Every one on there now is working with there free month.

That is one confusing thing about MMO's and I am not sure Rift will fall victim to it.
Most games Beta's have been more marketing then anything.
Rift's Beta basically gave you 42 levels and access to most everything. I predict what you see
now barring some horrible crash bug will end up with recurring subs which would be incredible.
Well to much irritation xfire doesn´t support Rift retail yet.
Using xfire I can´t even see Rift installed on my computer, although it is possible to hack xfire to get it registred and around a hundred xfire users have done that.
So even if Rift does show up in xfire it currrently has just a hundred users, however there are 44 xfire communities connected to Rift last time I checked.
What is my point with this?
Well, xfire did register Rift Beta, and when it did that it was the 8th most played game, and the 2nd most played mmorpg, bigger than Aion.
And yet here in Sweden we have hardly heard a thing about this game. I didn´t hear a thing about it until I look in WoW general forum, of all places. The biggest game magazine in Sweden -- pcgamer, has just recently mentioned Rift .
( I swear they must be payed by activision).
If a game can be this big just from player feedback it surely does have potential to be really big.
Ah... I was going to do the same thing but you beat me to it.
Hey, if the servers start to drain away they can combine us quickly. We already have last names in the form of titles that point to our server origin, that could easily be incoporated during a merge allowing folks to keep their favorite first names.

This game is just different from epic failures like Aion and War. It does not require massive populations to work.
I wouldn't say Aion was an epic failure: it's still immensely popular in Asia, and it was as polished as Rift is at its launch. Its huge flaw was the level grind and quest content shortage in the mid to high level range. It was still more enjoyable for a longer period of time to a larger group of gamers than a lot of other AAA MMO's.
Its failure may have been to retain the bulk of its non-Asian subs for longer than a couple of months, but Rift still has to prove that it is capable to do just that as well.
Aion as polished as Rift at its launch? What are you smoking?
Aion's fort sieges were near unplayable with massive lag and fps issues. Their fix was to not render players. This was their main endgame and it was completely broken They also had 1 end game instance and about 4-5 in total. They were fairly well done but 1 end game instance is not enough. Dredgion was an AFK fest the minute after the first battle took place. Gee what fun.
And.. that was all the content they had at end game.
I just reached 50 in Rift a couple days ago and the amount of stuff left to do in the game is immense. 2 end game normal instances, all the expert dungeons (of which I haven't even attempted yet) , rank 6 PVP to get and all the gear that goes with it, 1 full 20 man raid, 4 raid rifts, normal rifts to get ascended powers and sigils from, warfronts, reputation grinds, cool mounts to get, achievements to farm, and a whole lot more. There is so much stuff to do at endgame in Rift its overwhelming. I have been playing at 50 for 3 days now and have accomplished pretty much nothing in terms of the grand scheme of things.
In contrast when I got too 50 in Aion I ran around the abyss for a while and thought what now? Fort sieges were boring b/c they ran at about 3fps with 1000ms latency. PVP was few and far between and basically consisted of people either running away with speed scrolls or afking in dredgion. Dark Poeta was a cool instance but after doing it a few times It would have been nice to do a difference instance, but all we had were those crappy fort instances.
The only reason they did this was because during headstart week, every single server was at high or full with the excpetion of maybe 2. 80% of the player base spent more time in queue during headstart than in game.
If you go to trion official forums you will find about 2000 threads in regards to the ridiculous queue times of the servers.
I do not think anyone could have anticipated the insane popularity of rift, and in this case not even Trion would have guessed it would do as well as it has.
The 30 new servers were very much needed for the official launch date.
On my server I went from a 700 a night queue down to a 240 queue on launch night.
It is a pretty cut and dry reason why they added so many servers. It was because they were needed.
It is a pretty cut and dry reason why they added so many servers. It was because they were needed.
Disagree. Additional servers were needed, but no 30, not at this moment.
They could've started with like 6 or so, and then add more if they noticed those weren't enough.
It prevents the WAR 'ghost server' effect.
edit: unless they're planning on rolling out cross server dungeons and warfronts like WoW did, to still give players enough to do even if they're on a server that's emptying out.

So I pointed this out earlier. Those two shards marked recommended are now at medium population. That small little change seems to have helped.
But it's pretty interesting as far as when things are going full to low to whatever. 11:10pm ET
13 Full
21 High
8 medium
16 low.

ok I think volume is starting to pick-up. March 3rd and I count like 4 low pop EU servers
and every single one is Medium or higher.
Here is something interesting. Alost every single US server is at Medium or higher at
12pm CST on a Thursday which is pretty amazing.
Even the new servers are starting to fill up. I think confirmation that end game is not
a breeze or a joke is starting to get around. Also continued good press is helping too.
? I'm counting 10 US servers on LOW and 8 EU servers on LOW.
I'll check later on US peak times to see whether the trend of diminishing LOW servers continues.

ok so as funny as this sounds. I think putting a green dot next to the server actually worked.
Notice the "Recommended!" servers are at Medium now compared to low since they were released.
That US volume during the middle of the day is what is amazing me.
At 9:16 PM EST only 4 are low in NA.
Edit: 9:28 there are only 2 low servers left.
