Well finally decided to give EVE a shot...
wanted to say hello to the general community and ask the normal noob questions...
Are there any websites out there with basic info on gameplay to assist a noob?
Are there any limits to the free trial or anything i should attempt to do to help me decide whether to purchase the game?
Are there different races/factions/classes/etc (not sure on the entire specifics of the game yet) that would be better to choose on a free trial.
Thanks for the assistance

Welcome aboard
Certain skills are not trainable during the trial period which shouldn't be an issue if you really are a new player. There are plenty of skills that you can (and should) train before worrying about the advanced ones.
Once you get familiar with moving around in the game, I would suggest doing a set of the Career Agent missions for your race so you can get the free ships and learn a little about some of the options available in EVE.
If you have any specific questions, I can try to answer them. Murashu is my in game name as well.
Thanks for the help.. will still be at least 5 hours till i can get online tho..
Downloading takes a bit lol

May I suggest Eve University. As a member fo EU I can tell you we have a ton of information that can help the beginner in Eve Online. Welcome.

there's tons of advice to be given, but here's one that I luckily did. Take screenshots of stuff you find cool, b/c if you keep playing like I have..for 5 years...the POS I helped put up..sorta seems funny now. I also took a field trip to the EvE Gate and took some screenies of that as well...
There are alot of people that play EvE on this site, so feel free to ask any of us for help...if you get blown up, no matter what...don't cry about it...think about why it happened and learn from it. Lots to read..more to learn..take your time, have fun.
Good luck.

Well managed to struggle through the character creator.. it runs god awful slow
taking about 15~20 secs lag on every click of a button.. adjusting hair / eyes/ everything else took nearly an hour.. considered giving up lol.. sometimes it would take a minute or 2 for the updates to load also.
Thankfully the actual game runs better.. no noticeable lag or anything..
I'm not sure if the creation lag is a product of the game being a free trial or if its always like that.. but it was pretty bad :
The noob chat channel was pretty active.. but lots of rmt spams in it as well as other new people asking questions.. pretty much not worth watching.
I got by just clicking random stuff and watching what happened lol
Managed to do a couple of the missions.. killed a rebel ship make some ISK.. then delivered a chip after a station jump and made some more..
Still haven't figured out a place that sells stuff or what to buy.
Filled up my training que with a bunch of skills and suppose ill check in on the progress tomorrow.
Did have a couple interesting moments..
Took me a bit to figure out how to attack the rebels when they started attacking me.. and im still trying to figure out how to unlock the camera.. if thats possible..
It always seems to bounce back to a static direction.
I also managed to leave my ship behind at one point and was floating around in my escape pod.. thought i'd lost my ship forever >_<
Did find it again tho and get back into it.. escape pod is extremely slow glad i wasn't stuck in it.
Will see if i can get into anything interesting tomorrow.. not much time to play once the installer finally finished..
good night
This is the closest thing EVE has to a manual: http://www.isktheguide.com/
It's free to download and it's pretty comprehensive.

Best thing I can tell you is join a corp.
Eve to me is about one thing, building something. Whether thats an army, a corporation, a industrial base...something. If you personally cant find something personally to "create" or "build" than I strongly suggest finding a corp that is building something that you can get behind.
I highly recommend joining a corp, its a lot easier to learn the ropes and get acclimated with a group of folks that are already rocking and rolling.
If you have more questions feel free to pm me here or Pyrostasis in game.
Also the camera thing, right click and drag think of it as changing position on a static camera, you want to left click and drag to look around.
The character generator is brand spanking new, if it was slow then I can only conclude your video card wasnt quite up to scratch!
the ISK 3.0 guide is very good! Its actually more like a game manual than it is a guide though! but has everything you could need for reference.
There are always new players starting Eve, so I'd try to chat to people in your corp channel, see if there are other new players. Eve is exciting at first because everything seems complicated.. but chatting to other new players helps figuring out stuff quicker and more fun!
Welcome abroad! I remember when I first started Eve, It all look so complicated, but later on, i just figure stuff out slowly. And this game is so complicated and deep, i still don't know everything about it yet after been playing for 4 years. I am basically a PvPer, so i have no clue about the industrial side, lol
No matter how long you play EVE you can't know everything about the game. Anyone who tells you they do is fooling themselves. Just don't let them fool you.
As to advice for a new player.
1) Never fly a ship (or haul goods) worth more than you can afford to lose and easily replace.
2) If it sounds too good to be true, someone is trying to scam you, walk away.
3) You will lose your ship (see number 1), learn to accept this and plan on returning the favor one day.
4) You do not need to catch up to veterans, you can become an expert in some area of EVE pretty quickly and dominate if thats what you chose to do.
5) Pretty quickly in EVE can sometimes mean 3 to 6 months to even a year. EVE is for the patient.
6) See number 1. You'll break it, and remember these words. But that's OK, no matter how bad the loss, you can always recover and fight on another day.

This is the BEST advice, period. And the minute you join, start asking questions. If you find a good corp with supportive members, they'll save you months of mistakes and wasted ISK (ISK=Eve $).
I have to agree with Mukin on that....just went from a 21 day a trial to a full account and the group that I am with now has helped me save a couple million isk in research and skills.
When you are looking for a corp to join...ask them questions before joining...(lots of questions) if the recruiter is not willing to take the time to answer your questions then that corp might not be the one for you. Basically, you are going to be interviewing them because when you join them, your taxes that you make on missions and item sales on the market is going to be going to them and not to your orginal racial corp that you started with. So not only are you going to be helping yourself out but you are going to be helping the corp that you are joining as well.
Basically find a group that you are going to have fun with....and remember the most important rule....it's just a game!
Enjoy and fly safe!

Looking for that next MMO
Slider makes a point I should have: when looking for a corp, use the questions they ask you as a way of determining if you like them. My corp interviews everyone with the same set of questions. In other words, we want you to fit in as much as you do. So we ask things like:
1. Goal(s) in the game
2. Preferred playstyle (assuming you have one) and preferred maturity level of your corp-mates.
3. Timezone and usual play times/durations: who wants to be a California member of a European timezone corporation?
4. Level of experience (in Eve) as well as previous corp/guild experience (in Eve and other MMOs).
5. Whether you have any problems using our preferred types of communication (forums, TeamSpeak, etc.).
I think you can use this as a way of telling if you matter to them or if you'll just disappear into their guild as yet another anonymous tax-payer.
Good luck! Gimme shout in-game ('Mukit') if ya wanna talk more!
