Huh, didn't take long for the CCP Fanboy BrigadeTM to jump on this one.
The UI is a clunky, unwieldy nightmare. It is not the least bit intuitive, and looks absolutely terrible. You know why some people refer to EVE as a 'spreadsheet in space'? The look and feel of the UI is a big part of that.
The learning curve for the game can already be steep, struggling with a non-intuitive UI shouldn't be a part of that. Granted, it's functional once you get used to it, but it could be done so much better.
Obviously something or I would not have asked the question.
And this is how you reveal a troll. No constructive critcism on the existing UI. Just a smart ass reply.
Thread can be locked now.
Reason I did not answer your question is because I am not interested in discussing the UI, as it has been done to death. But to simply ask if any progress, or talk, has been done on the issue by the devs.
Secondly I doubt your question was a sincere question. Judging by this post I can imagine it was not but rather an flamebait me. Bait ahead, I am simply wondering if has changed since the last 6 months I played.

Agreed my friend. These people are just as good as turning threads into flamewars as the trolls they claim everyone is who do not like anything about "their" game.

I've actually stopped playing the game. The PvE is boring and incredibly predictable. PvP is enjoyable but costs more than I have the time to earn. Null sec is a playground for the CEO's to fling their pets at eachother, often times creating massive amounts of lag which absolutely destroys the fun out of being a pet.
Instead of being an asshat, just be constructive. I was simply wondering what you found wrong with the UI and you made a smartass comment instead. Then your 'friend' started off by being insulting. So no respect there either, therefore no reason to debate with him.

Then why did you reply?
Because he claimed I was a troll for not wanting to turn this thread into something it was not. I.e. simply asking if it has changed rather than to discuss with people who think it is fine already.

No, if you weren't interested in discussing it (which I understand, you just wanted the info not a debate) why did you reply to his first comment which was pretty straight foward?

Yeah, this thread is done. At least I'm done with it anyway.

my opinion on this stance would serve just another warning and deletion of my post, so im just gonna skip it.
All im gonna say is that spreedsheet in space refers to the fact that you actually need spreedsheets to handle trading / crafting in eve. It has zero reference to the ui which works mostly quite well.
Obviously something or I would not have asked the question.

They need a scalable UI - In 1920x1200 the UI is way to small!

Well his initial question is about as un-baiting as you can get on these boards, and again, why did you respond if you weren't interested? It looks to me like you were looking for flame war when you responded the way you did.
Wow people, just answer the OP's question instead of this drama BS.
To the OP, I believe they were looking into making the EvE UI very similar to Windows in that there's a task bar and a "Windows Button". Don't know if that hit live already.
only significant thing in the last six month regarding interface is option to slide camera left or right, which helps with dual screen mode. other stuff is mostly cosmetic. tho, i think maximum camera fov is slightly increased, which is again matter of preference. there was talk of new neocom (vertical option bar), but it apparently went back to drawing board.
next big thing is probably integration of Incarna and how it will affect UI. this remains to be seen.
edit: forogt one important bit, which is quite nice: keyboard focus was removed from chat. which means shortcuts can be assigned to without ctrl, alt or shift. ships are still controlled through mouse, but shortcuts are much more flowing. small step for MMOs, but big step for EVE, really.

Last news was that CCP finally hired someone to make them a proper UI. No date or specifics as far as I know.
Whats wrong with the UI?
Obviously something or I would not have asked the question.

Hm.. and the gfx/physics engine. Has it been noticeably improved compared to 6 months ago?

I don't think he's looking for a wow interface.
However, considering for the past 2 years the Eve promotional cinimatics have been using a "mock UI" that looks a lot better than what we get in game.
I would love to see that style taken to a full UI level.
P.S. for the past 20 years, games that use w,a,s,d to move, use space to jump. If anything you should have said "be more like Doom 2"
