Yeah well, you're one of a very limited few that will quit a game because the engine actually DOES perform better than most out there.  No offense, but I think your 'eye' for graphic performance is pretty lacking.

Speaking of dell.  They are quite possibly the worst electronics retailer that I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with.  I went with Cyber Power for my rig.  I probably got mine for less than you got yours, and it's most likely better =P  Just for an example, to purchase an alienware with similar specs and one less gtx580, it would cost you 4300.  I spent 900 less and got the extra gpu.  Dell is all name, and no substance.  Horrible.

Maybe your monitor is poop?  You say it's blurry and I don't even have a high end system as yours and I don't have graphics issues.  From the reviews I've read on the dell web site one person said

"Overall is a good monitor but you are buying just ALIENWARE logo on it not a powerfull hardware."

Other reviewers claim that it bleeds on the side.

My Acer 24" monitor does a good job without any blur.

So I'm really wondering what frames per second over the 24 mark, add to the gameplay.

There is no scientific evidence or proof of how many FPS human eye or brain can register but at around 24 FPS it is generally subjectively perceived as fluid movement.

The thing is, you won't get constant FPS during a gameplay and FPS varies so more you get, lower the drops are and more fluid the action parts of the game will be. Benchmarks, FPS meters, can evaluate how well your setup will perform.

    Why can't people understand?

His graphics card is great, his drivers are fine, no problem with cpu...

What else is there...   HE'S JUST A HATER GUYS!

"Can't play the game because it's blurry and hurts my eyes"... OMG I've heard it all now.

Don't play it then and quit whining!

To OP, why don't you post a screenshot of the game, you may be able to get some better answers as some people may not understand what your talking about.

While the game is fun to play at least till gw2 comes out or sth else the graphics engine makes your eyes get tired very soon.
It's so blury and the textures are not clear while it runs at 60-80 fps it performs as im having 30-40 fps.
Sorry guys to dissapoint you but graphics performance is one of the worst i ve ever seen.

The funny thing is that inside rift forums people are not resub because the game graphics performs horrible.
That may be your problem. I run it on a ati 5850 with the latest drivers (not beta) and don't have any of the issues you are complinging about.

No mate i tried the non beta latest drivers and it performs the same.

Then either there's an essential incompatibility between your machine and the game or you have something configured wrong. Configuration could be in your drivers or in Rift. You might even have the 'Low Quality Renderer' enabled because you started the game using beta drivers and it thought something was wonky. You'd have to turn the low quality renderer off manually because it will not disable itself if it's turned on.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I had the same problem, it seemed as if the anti-aliasing wasnt good enough, which made everything look subpar.

Quality of graphics is lovely for still shots....

But dear god those animations need some work....

Overall, I suspect it is terribly optimized.  For players with newer game cards (say, premium graphics cards less than two years old) it may perform well, but everyone else is likely to have problems.

I also find it difficult to play due to busy and distracting graphics with too many lighting and special effects, bu that is more of an issue with art direction than with graphics performance."

This is exactly what I don't understand. You say you have a slightly older computer, you can't expect the game to run at the highest settings. Games advance with the technology, otherwise whats the point of people (such as myself) spending 600+ buying a new card?

Now you say you can't even run it decently at low settings? That would tell me its a problem at your end. I have it installed on my sony vaio (i3, Intel graphics) and it is playable with low quality renderer on. Choppy, but playable. This game scales down very well, just look at all the people with series 3XXX cards that are running it fine. Could it be a bit more optimized? Probably, I have to turn my settings down from max to ultra during rifts, even with a hd5970. But I've yet to see a game run this smooth at initial launch ever. Trust me, I just went back to FFXIV this weekend to see what changed, and I STILL can't get decent framerates out of it, 6 months after launch.

If you have a Phenom 9600 get the program that  disables the TLB  Patch. You can disable it with your bios if you have xp but with win7 you have to the do it thru ur bios and os.

I went from 30 to 40 fps in low pop areas to 80 fps and I dip to 20 to 28 fps during heavy rifts before removing the patch it was in the 7 to 9s.

Not only works for rift but for all games. Ofcourse amd patched it for a reason and it might cause your comp to crash once in awhile.

Rift seems to be rough on CPUs and RAM speed (still have ddr2 1066 and its hurtn me)

Ive been playing ER since release and you cant compare graphic performance of those two games. Yes the games came out farely close to each other, but ER is clearly far behind on the graphic performance part.

Rift has nice graphics and runs really smooth with a "medium/good" computer.

ER has nice graphics but dosent run smooth with a "medium/good/Uber" computer.

I can only comment on higher end machines which is what my wife and I have.  I have never seen a game that can have the sheer volume of people and particle effects in a single battle ( I mean 100+ players) without taking a hit on performance.  Massive battles are amazing and generally lag free.  With a good machine, they have accomplished what no one else has been able to do.

    No way...

My worst graphical experience was in EQ2. I have a brand new 6 core cpu, with a decend video card and 8 gigs of ram and I couldn't run that game anywhere near max.

I run Rift on ultra with no shadow's at 15 fps..seems low but for some reason it plays like most games at 20+fps. That framerate doesn't drop much at all during massive invasions.

If I play Rift at the same settings as I played Eq2, I get double the framerates as I got in Eq2...even more telling is the fact that Eq2 is so old, I should be able to max Eq2 and get 30+ fps.

    Just saying...that's been my experience

Lord of the rings online performs better on everything maxed out including aa and af and vsync than rift's low settings.I cant believe this is happening.

Something is weird because I ran it on a Nvidia 250 and didn't have any fog.  I could run it on high settings, think I turned off one or two items like full screen effects.

I decided not to buy the game but I would say the graphics were very good.

lol im running a computer that's 3 years old.. It was a top dollar computer then, but i'm sure its obsolete now.. With that said, Rift's ran on my computer more smoothly then WoW or AION did.. Until recently i was running the graphics on low, but the other day i've moved everything up to full and it looks great and runs fine even in invasions with a full raid group.. I guess i got lucky, then again, i know a lot of people have problem with EvE and my computer ran that fine even on 100+ corp vrs corp battles lol.. I've entered into that MMORPG P/C contest tho, so heres to hoping i win myself a new comp! lol

I'm playing it with almost the exact same computer, except no alienware and different processor, And I consistantly have 75 FPS (limited by game).  The lowest I've seen it go, was in a massive 200+ man raid (just a guesstimation, but it was the most I've ever seen in an area without a game crashing), and it only dropped to ~55-60 FPS.  The graphics are beautiful, better than Age of Conan in some parts.  The animations are the only thing I can knock on.

I sadly agree that EQ2 have problems, in some zones do I still get crappy performance but I been running the game maxed out for my last 2 computers. In fact do lowering the settings not increase the perfrmance for me in the troubled areas at all.

That you can't run thegame maxed out tells me that you have some problems. Sure several of the cities are lagging (at peak hours) but I think you should check your direct X and GFX drivers anyways, it sounds like you need to upgrade them.

That you just get 15 FPS in Rift as well isn't good unless you have a very crappy GFX card, I had better performance in it during the first beta.

Do you have a performance problems in other games as well? When did you upgrade your GFX drivers last? What kind of card do you have?

Not sure what the OP's performance issues are but 9 times out of 10 its user related and not the game.

    You get 60 FPS on a 9800GT?

I have a GTX 460 and I cant get that fps...40-45 at best. Do you have all the settings turned down or the card overclocked?

Supersampling, not worth it imo....neither is shadows. I turned both of those off, and that made a huge difference in my fps.

Jump on the typical new release lack of end game content issue, or the pvp soul nerf bat that swings non stop.  Now that we would all believe.  It's a good game - better than everything since 2004's mega mmorpg hit and as the OP has shown us, has just exaserbated naive jealousy from people across the board.

The graphics perform horribly???   Give us all  a break with a silly statement like that - you know a lot of us actually play Rift right?

There were actually a lot of people in the beta who got better performance with older cards than newer, particularly 8800 TI and 9800 GTX so it doesn't sound that far fetched.

The engine are still optimized for certain cards.

Was the small amount of money you made for this post worth your dignity?

EDIT: I run Rift with a GTS 250 1gb in 1920x1080 on highish settings(have to turn a couple things down) and its clear and smooth. I dont know what you are talking about. Maybe your cards are messed up with those beta drivers.
