My Opinion on RIFT [Mod Edit]

trikkitrikki Member Posts: 58

I was really excited about this game. Now that i have played my 30 day pass,i have to say to everybody who has doubts about the game.I u have doubts, stay away from this game.In the beginning the rifts were kinda cool, and the gear u get from that.As i leveled up,i was starting to get annoyed about the rifts and invaders, they were always on the way of guest areas etc...    Instances are ok,when u actually do find a group. After got my healer cleric to past lvl30,all the instance runs stopped, people are not looking any groups. All they do is to hanging in the Sanctum,low/high level´s.Doing just the guests isnt enough for me.

The things that made this game have such a good reception are going to be the things that bring this game down.

Streamlined wow is great for wow because the game has been out for years. People played through the tough parts when you had to read quests, leveling took time, etc. etc. MMO's are only going to be successful when you can gain an attachment to your character and the world you are in.

This game is on par with cataclysm as far as the questing and leveling system but the problem herein lies that WOW is not in the growth stage, it's int he retention stage.

This game will last, but its NOTHING special, nor will it ever be.

Its nothing special in terms of originality, but i think i speak for alot of people when i say it does have a fresh feel, to what weve become so used to playing.  It doesnt revolutionize anything in the genre...but how smooth of a launch it was, and its polish out the gate, for an MMO, is something special in itself.

    Currently Playing : Rift, EQ2
Has Played: Anarchy Online, SWG(Pre NGE refugee), DAoC, EQ1, EQ2, Lineage 2, CoH, CoV, Horizons, AoC, FFXI, FFXIV, Aion, WoW, DCUO, Matrix Online, Vanguard, Tabula Rasa, LotRo, Fallen Earth, Shadowbane, EQoA, ArchLord

I knew that almost every comment is filled with wow comparison.Yes i did play wow over 5 years.

Biggest worry is the world when u logged in,it feels dead.Almost all are in the sanctum doing nothing.Wha kind of picture u get from that? I play the top 3 most populated shards. The feel is the same about all free mmo´s,dead community.Doing just guests and then hanging in the sanctum lvl50 doing nothing, thats not enough for me.Guess its time to put mmo´s rest.

l neither support or deny Rift, but making statements like admitting to paying for WoW for 5-years while doing nothing more than sitting in a Capital City waiting for a BG queue to pop is hardly the type of experience one should leveerage for a believable comparison that another games' new world is dead.

Maybe it is, but I find it hard to trust.

I hardly never sitted in the capital city doing nothing. And i dont play pvp.i thinked lots of times,of the people who do sit in the capital city hours and hours doing nothing. If i logged in and find theres nothing happening,i logged off.Its far more interesting to stare at the plain wall, than DnD on a game.Im not on a mission to discredit Rift.I couldnt care less if the game got huge success or not.I just told MY opinion about the game.

i hear a lot of people complain about rifts and invasions getting in the way while running to the next quest. I think this is a great feature if you aren't the type of person who's trying to power their way through the content as fast as possible to gear grind end-game content. Most of these complaints have come from long time WoW players which leads me to believe that they will never be happy in anything other than WoW. It's a disconcerting trend in this industry.

I just want to chime in about the game's population.  I play on estrael (sp?) and there are always people running around.  There are also always people getting groups together for dungeon crawls.

Huskie77,i somewhat disagree with you. Those invaders and rifts after doing them about 5 times, gets old really fast..As for the power leveling, thats not for me.Im in no hurry when it comes to leveling.Thats why my cleric was only lvl30,when my 30 days were up.As for the wow thing i agree with you.I tend to judgement every mmo through wow.Its a bad thing ( i cant control it)

    Trikki,

Fair enough. Everyone will have their own opinion and experience in this type of game. Thank you for your view on it and good luck wherever you land.

Who has to trust? ALL of this, including reviews are simply peoples OPINION.  If you like these types of games, do some research, look at other peoples *opinion*, and then either give it a try, or don't.  We aren't talking about a huge amount of money here. Who knows, you might actually enjoy it.  All I'm looking for is an enjoyable, well polished game, Rift is that to me.  Anyone who is still looking for the One True Game(tm) is going to be disappointed. Rift isn't that. But then neither will GW2, TOR, Tera or any other game be it.

That's exacrly the reason why I decided not to buy Rift after Beta.

To me Rift is too linear, too predictable and too group unfriendly.

The gameplay push you to play solo even if there is lots of group content too.

The rifts/invasions are utterly annoying and pointless, they lost a big chance to improve Warhammer PQs

How is the game group unfriendly? It actively supports social activities more than any mmo released in the last 5 years. I've grouped every single day from headstart till now. Can you please elaborate on what exactly caused you to form that opinion?

As above, can you be more specific please? I disagree completely, and have had a directly opposite experience to the one you describe.

    Annoying and pointless?

They are a completely feasible method of leveling instead of just questing or grinding mobs. They also provide you with essential currency items you need for high end sourcecores and essences, as well as planar augmentation abilities. This currency is not available through any other method.

They also provide you with sourceshards you can use to buy gear upgrades from vendors, have chances for you to get random blue and epic loot drops, and are a type of endgame content by way of Raid Rifts that can assist your guild in gearing up for progressive content.

You honestly don't seem very well educated about the game, no offense intended, just an observation.
