When Guild Wars II is finally released, will it be the end for Guild Wars I?
The reason I ask, is that I am thinking of buying the Guild Wars trilogy, but am a bit wary of not being able to get full use out of it, if it is scraped for the newer version!

There is and will still be a Guild Wars Live team working on the original game. It won't be scrapped for anything.
While I'm impatiently waiting for GW2 to release, I decided to give GW1 a try... I wasn't impressed. It does, however, look like the devs are addressing with GW2 all of the most annoying features of GW1, so I wasn't discouraged.
As soon as it's not worth their investment, they'll stop supporting GW1. You'll see them do a lot to encourage people to step up to GW2 before they finally do away with it. They may, however, keep a server running for the sake of nostalgia.
GW1 trilogy for onlt $30 is not a waste. They havent given an answer when GW2 is coming out except hinting late this year at the earliest. Meanwhile you still have plenty of time to play GW1 and it doesnt take lo get to level cap. Even after that there is still plenty to explore and do. I'd recommend it. I'd a;so recommend getting Eye of the North when you are close to 20 as acheivements gained in the campaign help unlock cosmetic items in GW2.
Thank's to all those that have replied. I will get gw1
They have stated time and again that they will keep GW1 running. They have also mentioned many times, that you will be able to go back into GW1 and continue to add to your Hall of Monuments after GW2 has been released (though new GW1 accounts created after a certian date near/after 2's release will not be able to).
