Game similar to the EVE formula

I really dig the EVE sandbox, but there is something about the way the ships handle that turns me off from the game.
Are there any other games out there that have a similar sandbox where players dictate how the world evolves? More specifically a game world where player corporations or guilds gain, hold, and lose territory?
Ans please don't say Darkfall, only because I know of the game already and I don't know how much I really like the fantasy theme.
MMOs played: Horizons, Auto Assault, Ryzom, EVE, WAR, WoW, EQ2, LotRO, GW, DAoC, Aion, Requiem, Atlantica, DDO, Allods, Earth Eternal, Fallen Earth, Rift

Nope, there is no other game even remotely similar to EVE.
(not counting Pereptuum that has EVE UI but otherwise is nothing alike)
